*** When the games really counted, Idaho Falls brought their best game as they swept the Owlz with a big 5th inning Sunday highlighted by a grand slam. Two swings of the bat actually did all the damage IF would need. A 1st inning rally started innocently enough with a 2-out single by Joe Dickerson, which was followed by a Marc Maddox single before Jase Turner stepped up to hit a 3-run homer to right off Orem SP Kenneth Herndon to spot the Chukars a 3-0 lead. A sac fly and RBI ground out off Everett Teaford by Orem in the 1st narrowed the lead to 1 at 3-2. Teaford stranded the would-be tying run at third in the 4th and the stage was set for the Chukar 5th. Two walks and an Orem error loaded the bases with no outs and Maddox capitalized with a 2-run double to chase Herndon for RP Barret Browning. After a ground out, an intentional walk reloaded the bases and RP Pedro Herrera was brought in to pitch to Brenan Herrera. Brenan crushed a grand slam to left to make it 9-2 for a crippling blow to the Owlz. The Chukars would load the bases again only to have Dickerson K to end the rally. Aaron Hartsock gave up a run in the 8th but Jacob Eckley set the Owlz down in order in the 9th to finish off the series. Orem RF Luis Rivera was 3-3 with a double to finish the series at .667, CF Peter Bourjos was 2-3 with a double and 2 RS to finish the playoffs at .500 and LF Chris Pettit, who was a standout for Orem all season, was 1-3 with a double and RBI to finish the set at .167.

The best-of-3 Pioneer League Championship Series begins Tuesday in Missoula as the Chukars face off with the Osprey (Rookie D-Backs). The Chukars were 3-4 against Missoula in the regular season and all the games were within 3 runs either way.
