*** The Naturals were 1-11 with runners in scoring position and Springfield got enough for the win. NWA stranded 2 in the 2nd and the Cardinals scratched out a run in the 3rd. Corey Smith hit a 2-out RBI single in the NWA 3rd but the Cardinals manufactured another run in the 4th to take the 2-1 lead. The Naturals' best chance came with 2 in scoring position and 1 out in the 8th but nothing came of the situation and RP Eduardo Sanchez pitched the 9th for his 4th save for the Cards. Starter Scott Gorgen allowed an ER on 4 hits and 2 walks with 3 Ks over 5 IP to improve to 2-3 with a 4.56 ERA. 2B Colt Sedbrook had 2 hits for Springfield.

The Naturals are 21-14 and clinging to a 1-game division lead. Game 3 of the set is today as Blake Johnson (6-7, 5.27) faces Cards righty Lance Lynn (9-4, 3.30).

*** A 5-run 5th keyed the Rocks' 8th straight victory. Mike Moustakas got the scoring started with an RBI double in the 1st and Eduardo Paulino stranded 2 Red Sox in the 2nd. Salem tied it in the 5th with a run on a walk and 2 hits, but the Blue Rocks answered in force in the bottom of the inning, as Jamar Walton hit an RBI single, Anthony Seratelli hit an RBI single, Derrick Robinson cracked a 2-run homer for his 1st of the season and 1st ever as a Blue Rock, and Clint Robinson hit an RBI single before the Rocks left 'em loaded up, 6-1. Moustakas hit an RBI single in the 6th to make it 7-1. Salem scored twice in the 7th but would get no closer. Moustakas hit another RBI single in the 8th to cap the scoring. Salem SP Eammon Portice took the loss with 4 1/3 IP of 6 ER allowed on 8 hits with 6 Ks to fall to 6-5 with a 4.62 ERA. Seven Sox had a hit each.

The Rocks are 21-14 and 2 1/2 games out. Today's series finale was rained out, so if no one else can, Mother Nature beat the Blue Rocks today. I guess beat isn't the word, it was more like a draw.

Dayton picked up another run in the 3rd before Patrick Norris cut the rally short with an OF assist at second. David Wood hit a 2-out, 2-run homer (his 6th) in the 4th to make it 3-2 Bees, and Ryan Wood scored on a throwing error in the 5th to make it 4-2. Louis Coleman came in and got out of a jam in the 7th and was perfect over 2 2/3 IP. With 1 out and 2 on in the Bees 9th, Shawn Griffin came through with an RBI single before the Bees left 'em loaded. Coleman shut the door to secure his 1st pro win. RP Mark James allowed the ER over 2 IP to fall to 1-6 with a 4.97 ERA. Starter Oscar Castro worked 5 IP of 4 runs (3 ER) allowed on 4 hits and 3 walks with 3 Ks to move his ERA to 6.86. Keating 2 1/3 IP, H, 4 K -- W, 3-0, 2.84 ERA, solid

*** A 3-run 7th was the difference in the Chukars' comeback win. Ogden took the lead in the 2nd but IF responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the frame on a 2-run Raptor error. Tito Espinosa added an RBI single in the 3rd to make it 3-1 Chukars. Nick Wooley gave up a leadoff homer to CF Jerry Sands (his 13th) in the 4th to cut the lead to 1 and Wooley wouldn't survive the 5th as Ogden got 3 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks, including 3 XBH, and Pernell Halliman had to strand the bases loaded to escape the inning. Deivy Batista hit a 2-run single in the 6th to tie the game at 5 but Halliman got stung for 2 Raptor runs in the 7th on 2 walks and 3 singles as, this time, Patrick Keating had to come in and strand the bases loaded. Allen Caldwell retied it in the bottom of the 7th on a 2-run single and later scored on a wild pitch to account for the winning run. Keating faced the minimum in getting his 3rd pro victory. RP Joe Paxson took the loss with an ER allowed over 2 IP to fall to 1-2 with a 5.40 ERA and got his 2nd blown save.
