*** The AAA all-star game is Wednesday night in Toledo and will be shown on ESPN2.
AA - Wichita: Midland 2, Wranglers 0
3B Gordon 0-3, HBP -- .295
RF Butler 1-4, 2 K -- .322
LF Lubanski 2-4, K -- .270
SS Sanchez 2-4, 2B (16), K -- .278
CF Maier 1-4, 2B (17), K -- .278
C Tupman 0-2, BB -- .305
2B Murphy 0-4, K -- .226
Buckner 6 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 5 BB, 10 K!, HRA, 2 WP -- L, 0-1, 6.75 ERA, signs of improving, at least
Markray 2 IP, 2 H, BB, K -- 2.52 ERA
*** Midland SP Brad Knox held the Wichita offense silent and 2 early runs off Billy Buckner got the RockHounds the win. Buckner gave up a solo homer in the 2nd and RBI single in the 3rd for Midland's runs. Angel Sanchez doubled to lead off the 4th and a HBP on Gordon gave the Wranglers 2 on with 0 out. Billy Butler K'd and Dee Brown hit into a 4-6-3 DP to end the inning. The Wranglers got 2 on with 1 out in the 8th but again squandered the chance. Wichita is 11-8 and only 1 game up on first now. Knox allowed 5 hits and 2 walks with 5 K in moving to 7-3 with a 4.41 ERA, 3B Vasili Spanos was 2-4 with his 51st RBI to move to .312 and 1B Brant Colamarino was 1-3 with his 8th homer and 51st RBI to move to .293. C Kurt Suzuki was 0-4 to drop to .296.
The teams continue the series Wednesday night. Seung Song takes the hill for Wichita.
High-A - High Desert: Stockton 6, Mavs 1
1B Stodolka 2-4, RS -- .298
DH R. Brown 1-2, 2 BB, RBI (39), CS -- .270
LF Valentin 1-4, K -- .290
C Donachie 0-4, K -- .271
Cota 2 IP, 6 ER, 6 H, 2 BB, 2 K, HRA -- L, 4-8, 7.41 ERA, what's going on? This is disgusting.
Rowe 4 IP, H, 2 BB, K -- 5.30 ERA
Barnes and Atencio 2 IP scoreless relief
*** Luis Cota got beaten around again and the Mavs offense was impotent with only a 9th inning run separating them from a shutout. Cota gave up 3 runs in both the 1st and 2nd to hit the showers early and, going into the 9th, the Mavs only had more than 1 base runner on in 1 inning. Rusty Brown hit a 1-out RBI single to spoil the shutout but Adam Donachie ended it with a DP ball. The Mavs are 11-7 and a game up on first. Stockton SP Michael Madsen (Mr. Blonde to you Reservoir Dogs fans) went 5 2/3 IP and allowed 5 hits and 2 BB to improve to 4-6 with a 6.01 ERA, rehabbing RF Milton Bradley was 0-3 with a RS, DH Myron Leslie was 2-4 with his 12th homer and 4 RBI (61) to move to .288 and another A's catcher prospect (like Suzuki), Landon Powell, was 2-4 to move to .266.
The Mavs will try to recover against the Ports Wednesday night. Kyle Crist starts.
Low-A - Burlington: off day
*** The Bees start a 3-game set at the Kane County Cougars (11-8, Low-A Athletics) Wednesday. Erik Cordier gets the start for Burlington. It's funny how all the organizational teams seem to play the A's squads at the same time.
Rookie - Idaho Falls: Billings 2, Chukars 1
1B Castillo 2-4, RS -- .373
2B Mertins 1-4, K -- .444
CF Dickerson 1-3, BB, SB (4), E (1) -- .288
LF Morel 0-4, 3 K -- .329
3B Hayes 1-4, K -- .167
Wood 3 2/3 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 3 H, BB, 4 K -- L, 0-1, 3.60 ERA
Abreu and Hartsock 4 1/3 IP scoreless relief
*** The Chukars more than doubled Billings' hit output but could only scrape out a 9th inning run in losing again to the Mustangs. A throwing error by C Ross Boudreaux on a steal helped the Mustangs score their first run in the 1st and Blake Wood gave up another run in the 4th before getting pulled. Idaho Falls had 2 on base in two different innings in the game but couldn't get the needed hit to bring them home. A wild pitch scored a run in the 9th for Idaho Falls and Joe Dickerson was the tying run at second when Eduardo Nunez struck out to end the game. Idaho Falls is 13-8 and held onto a 1-game lead. Mustangs SP Anthony Gressick pitched 4 innings with 5 hits allowed and 8 Ks to keep his ERA at 0.00, CF Drew Stubbs was 1-2 with a walk and RS to move to .243 and RF Chris Heisey was 0-3 with his 9th RBI to drop to .403.
The series ends Wednesday. Jason Godin starts for Idaho Falls.
