Royals on the Farm 7/2

AAA - Omaha: O-Royals 5, Iowa 1

LF Costa 3-4, 2 RS -- .421
3B Aviles 3-4, 2 RBI (27) -- .250
RF Allen 2-4, 2B (17), HR (10), 2 RBI (51), 2 RS -- .331
C Phillips 2-4, RS -- .251
CF K. Robinson 0-4 -- .319
DH Gotay 0-4 -- .252
2B Cortez 0-4 -- .263, first 0-fer as O-Royal
SS Blanco 0-3 -- .243
*Omaha turned 4 DPs

Bautista 6 IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 5 BB, K, WP -- W, 1-2, 5.09 ERA, ugly BB-K ratio
Loux 1/3 IP, K -- SV, 1, 7.00 ERA

*** Denny Bautista, Ed Yarnall and Shane Loux held the I-Cubs to only a 9th inning run and 7 hits in Omaha's second win in a row. Chad Allen doubled to lead off the 2nd and scored on a Mike Aviles single to put Omaha up, 1-0. IF Mike Coolbaugh made his Omaha debut at 1B and took a bases-loaded walk in the 4th to score a run before an Aviles ground out scored another run and Omaha had a 3-0 lead. Allen polished the Cubs off with a 2-run homer in the 8th for his 10th of the season. No Omaha pitcher had a 1-2-3 inning in the game and Yarnall gave up a run in the 9th before Loux came in and got a strikeout to end it. Omaha is 32-51. Cubs 2B Mike Fontenot was 2-3 with his 14th double to move to .321, RF Buck Coats was 2-4 with his 30th RBI to move to .276 and CF Felix Pie was 0-3 to drop to .248.

The series wraps up Monday night. Pitchers: Cubs LH Les Walrond (7-2, 3.55) vs. RH Ryan Baerlocher (3-3, 3.78). Justin Huber is still day-to-day with a sore thumb.

AA - Wichita: Springfield 6, Wranglers 4

3B Gordon 1-4, 2B (23), K, RS -- .303
RF Butler 2-4, 2 RBI (58), K, RS -- .326
1B Keim 2-4, RBI (14), K, CS -- .248
CF Maier 0-3, BB, RBI (49) -- .268
LF Lubanski 0-4, K -- .253
SS Sanchez 1-5, K -- .282
C Thibault 1-3, RS -- .333, AA debut
PH Tupman 1-1, 2B (7) -- .290

Song 5 IP, 5 ER, 8 H, 4 BB, 7 K, 2 WP -- L, 4-9, 4.91 ERA
Cedeno IP, K -- 5.25 ERA

*** Wichita squandered a 3-0 lead to drop a game to the Cardinals. It was a comedy of errors for Springfield in the 2nd as Butler K'd but reached on a wild pitch on the third strike. Dee Brown followed with a single to center and CF Shaun Boyd made both a fielding and throwing error on the play to put runners at second and third with 0 outs. Butler scored on a Mitch Maier ground out and Adam Keim singled Brown home for a 2-0 Wichita lead. Another Cards fielding error allowed Wichita to load the bases with 0 out in the 3rd but the Wranglers only got 1 run out of it on a Butler RBI single for a 3-0 lead. Springfield tied the game off Seung Song in the 4th in a rally that included two 2-out RBI doubles. The Cardinals scraped together 2 runs in the 5th and another in the 7th for a 6-3 lead. Meanwhile, Springfield pitchers were retiring 13 Wranglers in a row until Alex Gordon hit a 1-out double in the 8th and scored on a Butler RBI single. Wichita would score no more, however. Wichita is 6-4 and still a game up on first. Cards RF Terry Evans was 3-3 with his 20th RBI and 2 RS to move to .319, LF Nick Stavinoha was also 3-3 with 2 RBI to move to .271 and DH Cody Haerther was 1-3 with his 14th double and 2 RBI to move to .235.

The Wranglers and Cardinals play again Monday night. No announced pitchers.

High-A - High Desert: Mavs 5, Lake Elsinore 4

3B E. Lucas 3-4, 2 HR (5), 3 RBI (32), K -- .252, game winning inside the park homer
2B W. Perez 0-3, BB, K, RS, SB (6) -- .290
RF Valentin 1-4 -- .288
1B R. Brown 1-4, 2B (13), RBI (36) -- .277
C Donachie 0-4, 3 K, PB (8) -- .273
*Juan Senreiso had 3 SBs in the game to make his season total 10

Christensen 5 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 4 BB, 4 K -- ND, 6.06 ERA
Barnes 3 IP, 3 H, BB, 3 K -- W, 4-3, 3.94 ERA
Atencio IP, H, K -- SV, 3, 5.11 ERA

*** A dramatic 9th inning hit by Ed Lucas gave the Mavs the comeback win. OF James Tomlin hit an RBI single in the 2nd to get the Mavs a 1-0 lead but Lake Elsinore scored 2 off Dan Christensen in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. Lucas homered to lead off the 5th for his 4th of the season and Rusty Brown doubled home a run later in the inning fora 3-2 Mavs lead. Christensen and RP Justin Barnes gave up 2 runs in the 6th to blow another lead and the Storm took a 4-3 lead. That was the score entering the top of the 9th and Storm closer Neil Jamison struck out the first 2 Mavs he faced but the first, Senreiso, reached on a throwing error by the catcher and the Mavs took advantage. Senreiso advanced to third on a Tomlin ground out before Lucas drove a ball to left that Storm LF Peter Ciofrone attempted to make a sliding catch on but missed and the ball caromed off the wall. Lucas came around to the plate and the relay throw was high as he scored the lead run. Greg Atencio gave up a hit in the 9th but shut the Storm down to pick up his 3rd save. High Desert is 6-4 and half a game back of first. It was Jamison's 4th blown save. Ciofrone was 1-2 to move to .338 and 3B Chase Headley was 1-3 with his 18th double and 38th RBI to move to .274. Padres OF Dave Roberts also played in a rehab assignment and was 1-3 with 2 Ks, both by Christensen.

The series wraps up tonight. Pitchers: Mavs RH Jarod Plummer vs. Storm righty Josh Geer.

Low-A - Burlington: Peoria 9, Bees 2

1B Vega 2-4, HR (9), RBI (38), E (12) -- .247
SS McConnell 2-3, K, E (16) -- .175
CF Santana 2-3, 2B, HBP, RBI, K -- .253
2B Johnson 1-5, K, CS (8) -- .260
C Everett 0-2, BB, HBP, RS -- .257
*Despite the errors, the Bees turned 4 double plays

Santiago 5 IP, 5 ER, 9 H, 2 BB, 3 K, 2 HRA, WP -- L, 0-1, 9.00 ERA, ungood single A debut

*** A 5-run 4th was all the Chiefs needed in taking the series finale. Burlington had multiple base runners in the first 2 innings but couldn't push a run across and Peoria got on the board big time in the 4th with 5 runs on 6 hits, including back-to-back homers off Mario Santiago. The Bees had multiple base runners again in the 4th and did nothing with it but got both of their runs in the 6th on a Miguel Vega solo homer -- his 9th -- and an RBI double by Ethien Santana. The Bees wouldn't threaten again and Peoria scored 2 runs in both the 8th and 9th to run away and hide with the win. The Bees moved to 4-7. Chiefs CF Yusuf Carter was 2-4 with 2 homers and 4 RBI to move to .226 and follow up Saturday's grand slam, 3B Ryne Malone was 3-5 with a double to move to .381 and 1B Ryan Norwood was 2-5 with his 19th double and 42nd and 43rd RBI to move to .324.

The Bees started a 4-game series at the Cedar Rapids Kernels (5-6, Low-A Angels) today and they took their 3rd loss in a row. Carlos Rosa got the start and took the loss.

Rookie - Idaho Falls: Orem 2, Chukars 1

2B Mertins 2-4, 2B, K, E (2) -- .750
CF Dickerson 0-4, K -- .310
1B Castillo 1-2, 2 BB, RBI (11) -- .405
LF Morel 2-4, K, RS -- .375
PH Morizio 1-1, 2B -- .385

Cribb 4 IP, 0 ER, 0 H, 0 BB, 4 K -- ND, 0.00 ERA, very nice debut
Gutierrez 3 IP, 2 ER, 5 H, BB, K, HRA -- L, 0-1, 4.38 ERA
Best IP, nothing -- 3.48 ERA

*** Idaho Falls again lost to the Owlz, 2-1, despite holding a 1-0 lead in the 6th. Luis Castillo hit an RBI single in the 3rd to give IF a 1-0 lead and Josh Cribb was perfect through 4 IP before being pulled, I assume for pitch count reasons. Dan Gutierrez got through the 5th but gave up a 2-out RBI single in the 6th to tie the game. A leadoff homer for Orem in the 7th gave the Owlz a 2-1 lead and Idaho Falls gave it one last effort as Matt Morizio pinch-hit a 2-out double in the 9th but Ross Boudreaux struck out to end the game. Idaho Falls is 8-5 and now a game back of Orem. Orem RP John Sullivan pitched 4 scoreless innings to pick up the win and move to 2-0 with a 5.11 ERA, DH Tyler Johnson was 1-3 with his 1st homer and 8th RBI to move to .379 and CF Peter Bourjos was 1-3 with a RS to move to .353.

The series finishes in Orem Monday night before moving to Idaho Falls Tuesday. No announced pitchers.

SS Bianchi 0-2, BB, HBP -- .440
CF D. Robinson 0-4, K -- .179
1B S. Lucas 0-2, 2 BB, K, picked off -- .353
RF Peralta 1-4, K -- .375
3B Taylor 1-4, RBI (1), K -- .231, first pro RBI
LF Francis 1-2 -- .182

A. Morales 5 IP, 6 ER, 10 H, BB, 2 K, HRA -- L, 1-2, 8.53 ERA
Barrera 2 1/3 IP, 3 H, K -- 0.00 ERA

*** The Giants got to Angelo Morales and stayed atop the division by crushing the Royals. Morales gave up a 2-run homer in the 3rd and 2 runs in the 5th before getting credited with 2 ER in the 6th and getting pulled without getting an out. Jason Taylor hit a 2-out RBI single in the 8th to keep the Royals from being shut out and the Giants poured on 3 more runs off RP Yensi Lopez in the 9th to ice it. The Royals are 5-4.
