Capellan 6 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 4 K, HRA -- W, 4-0, 3.00 ERA, could end up with team lead in wins way he's going
Yabuta 3 IP, H, 4 K -- SV, 1, 5.40 ERA, that's what we've been waiting for

*** The game was tied at 3 in the 6th before Omaha put it in the bag with 10 unanswered runs. Brayan Pena hit an RBI double in the 1st but Jose Capellan gave up a leadoff homer in the 2nd and a sac fly made it 2-1 Bees. Chris Lubanski tied it with a sac fly in the 2nd and an error scored Angel Sanchez to make it 3-2 Omaha. Salt Lake tied it on 2 hits in the 6th off Capellan but Omaha answered with 3 in the bottom of the inning on a 2-run Sanchez triple and another Lubanski sac fly to make it 6-3. Jason Smith led off the Omaha 7th with his 20th homer and, 3 batters later, Kila Kaaihue cranked a 2-run roundtripper for his 2nd in 2 games at Omaha. Omaha scored 4 in the 8th as the bases were loaded with 2 out when Kaaihue hit a 2-run single and Damon Hollins did the same to stretch it to 13-3. Yaz Yabuta retired 9 of 10 he faced for his 1st save for Omaha. RP Jeff Kennard took the loss for the Bees with 1 2/3 IP of 6 ER allowed to drop to 4-3 with a 7.38 ERA. Starter Giancarlo Alvarado worked 5 innings of 3 runs (2 ER) allowed to move his ERA to 3.94. Four Bees had 2-hit games as SS Brandon Wood hit his 17th double and 24th homer in the loss.

The O-Royals are 50-62. Game 3 of the set is tonight. Starters: Bees hot prospect RH Nick Adenhart (6-10, 6.18) vs. Royals LH Josh Newman (1-1, 2.45). The Royals finished 9-21 in July for the first single-digit-win month for the franchise since August 2006. The Royals signed IF Josh Labandeira, 29, and put him at Omaha. Labandeira was previously with the Rays this season and will reportedly be used in a utility role. Time for an end-of-the-month roundup....Ryan Shealy leads current regulars with an .859 OPS (16 2B, 15 HR, 45 RBI, 38 BB/66 K in 301 ABs), Gookie Dawkins is next at .853 (10 2B, 7 HR, 23 RBI, 10 BB/38 K in 152 ABs), Mitch Maier was at .835 prior to his callup (24 2B, 9 HR, 41 RBI, 29 BB/42 K, 12/15 SB in 345 ABs), then Dave Matranga at .786 (Costa is also in there at .823 but hasn't played in a while) (Matranga's #s: 8 2B, 4 3B, 6 HR, 31 RBI, 22 BB/53 K in 201 ABs, also on shelf for undetermined amount of time), and Mike Stodolka has pulled himself up to a .770 OPS (11 2B, 5 HR, 20 RBI, 23 BB/41 K in 215 ABs....if he had a chunk more power he'd be KC's answer to Ankiel). Others of note -- Chris Lubanski .764 (also on the rise, 16 2B, 5 3B, 13 HR, 44 RBI, 29 BB/99 K (weak point), 4/5 SB in 304 ABs); Brayan Pena .759 (11 2B, 16 RBI, 10 BB/7 K, 3/4 SB in 130 ABs); Matt Tupman .620 (13 XBH, 17 BB/35 K in 226 ABs); and Angel Sanchez .559 (7 XBH, 7 BB/18 K in 106 ABs). No current regular, other than Jason Smith with 17, has more than 5 errors, so that's a point of note. Capellan leads current Omaha pitchers with a 1.07 WHIP (4-0, 3.00 ERA, 12 BB/28 K, 3 HRA in 42 IP), then it's Josh Newman at 1.16 (1-1, 2.45 ERA, 12 BB/25 K in 29 1/3 IP); Carlos Rosa at 1.20 (4-2, 3.78, 10 BB/41 K, 3 HRA in 47 2/3 IP); and Devon Lowery at 1.37 (0-1, 2.38, 24 BB/31 K, 4 HRA in 45 1/3 IP). J. De La Cruz 1/3 IP, 2 H, BB, K -- 4.23 ERA, back from DL
de la Vara 1 2/3 IP, H, BB, K -- 3.57 ERA

*** The Naturals' offense cranked out 10 hits and 2 walks in the game but 0 runs meant an end to the 6-game win streak. Julio Pimentel had another rough game as a 3-run homer was part of a 4-run Tulsa 2nd. The Naturals left the bases loaded in the 3rd and Tulsa scored once in the 4th and twice in the 5th off Pimentel and Kyle Crist to push the lead to 7-0. NWA stranded 2 more in scoring position in the 5th, 2 in the 7th and 2 in the 9th to get shut out. Rehabbing starter Jeff Francis worked 6 innings and allowed 7 hits and 2 walks but not 1 run as Francis moved to 1-0 with a 0.63 ERA in AA. LF Justin Nelson was 4-5 with his 12th homer and 3 RBI along with his 4th error and 2 RS. C Brian Esposito was 3-4 with an RBI and two others had 2 hits for Tulsa. SS Corey Wimberly stole his 53rd base.

The Naturals are 25-15 and 4 games up on first. A 4-game set at the Arkansas Travelers (14-26, AA Halos) starts tonight. The Nats are 12-13 versus Arkansas and have won the last 6 in the "Diamond Series." Starters tonight were Blake Johnson (8-6, 4.80) and Arkansas' Robert Mosebach (9-8, 4.93). Julio De La Cruz was activated from the DL to take the open roster slot on the team. Kila Kaaihue was hitting for a 1.086 OPS before getting called up. Wow. Leader among actives is Juan Richardson at .835 (25 2B, 12 HR, 60 RBI, 67 RS (leads team), 40 BB/80 K in 386 ABs); then Brian McFall at .831 (13 2B, 15 HR, 49 RBI, 37 BB/78 K, 6/11 SB in 265 ABs); Ed Lucas at .819 (9 2B, 3 3B, 4 HR, 25 RBI, 18 BB/34 K, 8/13 SB in 182 ABs); Cory Aldridge at .783 (5 XBH, 11 BB/16 K in 69 ABs); and Marc Maddox at .760 (25 2B, 25 RBI, 36 BB/58 K, 15/24 SB in 345 ABs). Others of note....Irving Falu .720 (on the rise), Jose Duarte .667 (26/32 SB), Mario Lisson .628 (28 XBH, 25/30 SB, 24 BB/83 K in 370 ABs, not really a step forward this season). Chris Hayes leads active pitchers with more than 20 innings of work with a 0.98 WHIP (4-1, 1.53, 3 HRA, 11 BB/31 K in 53 IP); then Chris Nicoll at 1.07 (2-1, 2.57, 4 BB/30 K (nice), 1 HRA in 28 IP); Greg Atencio at 1.26 (3-3, 3.78, 4 HRA, 25 BB/62 K in 52 1/3 IP); and Jarod Plummer at 1.27 (4-1, 4.42, 14 BB/60 K, 12 HRA (yikes) in 55 IP). Others of note.... Dan Cortes 1.37 (6-4, 4.41, numbers headed south of late, 11 HRA, 39 BB/77 K in 83 2/3 IP); Blake Johnson 1.40 (17 HRA leads team in bad way, 28 BB/72 K in 116 1/3 IP); Rowdy Hardy 1.48 (5-8, 4.92, 11 HRA, 23 BB/67 K in 122 2/3 IP); Pimentel 1.63 (14 HRA, 42 BB/84 K in 119 1/3 IP); Blake Wood 1.66 (22 BB/54 K in 56 IP). Can't say the AA rotation has turned out as well as I thought it would at this time last year.

Others of note.... Chris McConnell .733 (26 E by far leads team, 26 2B tied for team lead, 40 BB/54 K, 22/36 SB in 359 ABs); Jeff Bianchi .706 (slowly on rise, but only .281 OBP, 26 2B, 6 HR, 47 RBI (leads team), 14 BB/69 K (yowch), 9/12 SB, only 1 E in 79 games and 301 ABs); Jeff Howell .698; Derrick Robinson .618 (all speed, pretty much, tho he does have 17 2B). B. Hardy 2 IP, 4 R (2 ER), 4 H, HRA -- 6.20 ERA

*** Orem continued its domination of Idaho Falls in moving to 8-1 versus the Chukars with the 6-hit shutout Thursday. The Owlz jumped in front with a 2-run homer off Colby Beach in the 1st and an RBI double in the 2nd made it 3-0. The Chukars left the bases loaded in the 2nd and stranded 2 in both the 3rd and 4th. The Owlz plated 2 more in the 5th on another homer off Beach and an RBI groundout off Tim Huber. Four runs in the 8th off Blaine Hardy put the game away. Idaho Falls stranded 2 in the 8th as it would be their last shot at a rally. RP Chris Scholl got the win with 3 1/3 scoreless innings to move to 2-1 with a 1.93 ERA. Starter Jeff Boshers worked 3 2/3 scoreless innings and dropped his ERA to 2.29. Five Owlz had 2 hit games and DH Chris Garcia drove in 3 runs while hitting his 1st homer of the season.

Idaho Falls is 2-2 and in a 4-way tie for first early on in the second half. The series continued tonight as Ivor Hodgson got the start. Time to see who's leading the way in Idaho Falls. Nick Francis was hitting for a .978 OPS before getting the deserved call to A-ball. OF Shawn Griffin is leading the charge among active Chukars with an .806 OPS (9 2B, 3 HR, 16 RBI, 22 BB/41 K, 5/9 SB in 139 ABs); then it's Devery Van De Keere at .754 (6 2B, 4 HR, 6 BB/17 K, tied for second on team with 10 E in 33 games and 105 ABs); Juan Graterol at .753 (.420 OBP, 1 XBH, 6 BB/6 K, 2/3 SB in 42 ABs); J.D. Rookie - Burlington: double rainout AGAIN

*** The Royals will likely just cancel the games that were washed out as they don't play Bristol again. They lost today's doubleheader on both ends to drop to 14-28. Kelvin Herrera and John Flanagan took the losses. The offensive highlights at Burlington this season have been few and far between, so the team leaders aren't really stacking up the good stats. Josh Vittek is atop the team OPS chart at .910 (2 2B, 5 HR leads team, 16 RBI, 5 BB/23 K in 72 ABs); then David Wood sits at .703 (7 2B tied for team lead, 10 BB/8 K, 1/4 SB in 88 ABs); Yeldrys Molina at .684 (12 BB/16 K in 46 ABs); Warren McFadden at .675 (8 BB/13 K in 60 ABs); and Hilton Richardson at .603 (4 3B leads team, 26 RS leads team, 13 RBI, 14 BB/43 K, 4/8 SB, sub-.300 OBP in 152 ABs). Others of note.... Allen Caldwell .600 (7 2B, 13 BB/30 K in 126 ABs), Jason Morales .596 (both he and Caldwell are sub-.300 OBP), Julio Aparicio .573 (leads team with 20 RBI in 145 ABs), Miguel Moctezuma .571 and Fernando Cruz .551 (3 BB/28 K in 121 ABs). The pitching staff is a little rosier of a picture. Barry Bowden leads the team with an 0.82 WHIP (2-0, 0.49, 5 SV, 6 BB/22 K in 18 1/3 IP); Sam Runion is at 0.89 (2-2, 2.19, 2 HRA, 3 BB/17 K in 24 2/3 IP); John Flanagan 0.99 (1-1, 0.74, 7 BB/26 K in 24 1/3 IP); and Kelvin Herrera at 1.02 (2-2, 1.50, 4 BB/36 K in 42 IP). Others of note.... Manauris Baez 1.15, Mike Lehmann 1.17 (in 36 IP, 6 BB/25 K, leads team at 3-2), Carson Bryant 1.58, Pernell Halliman 1.97, and 5 are over the 2.00 WHIP mark, including 4 over 2.2.

Rookie - AZL: off day

*** The 1-3 Royals were set to play the 4-0 Rangers tonight. Here's the stat rundown for the AZL Royals. Juan Bonilla leads the team with a 1.075 OPS (7 2B, 2 3B, 4 HR leads team, 19 RBI easy team lead, 5 BB/13 K, 5/5 SB in 81 ABs); then IF Deivy Batista sits at .838 (8 2B leads team, 2 HR, 11 BB/21 K, 6/9 SB in 102 ABs); OF Luis Del Rosario sits at .827 (6 2B, 2 HR, 15 BB/23 K, 6/14 SB in 110 ABs); and IF Lifete Jose sits at .763 (5 BB/13 K, 4/7 SB in 57 ABs). Others of note.... James Nilsen .692, Mauricio Matos .597 (only 37 ABs), Jake Kuebler .557 (leads team with 12 E, 4 BB/9 K, 3/4 SB in 82 ABs), and Alex Llanos .481 (5 2B, 6 BB/29 K, 7/9 SB tied for team lead there in 114 ABs).
