*** Kila Kaaihue's 2-run homer in the 4th was the only Omaha hit that really counted as Nashville scored a run in the 8th to take the series finale. With 2 out in the Nashville 2nd, Jimmy Gobble walked 2 and then allowed an RBI double before stranding 2 in scoring position. Kaaihue's homer came with 1 out in the 4th and was his 7th for Omaha to make it 2-1 Royals. Yaz Yabuta stranded the bases full in the 4th but gave up a leadoff homer in the 6th to tie the game. Greg Atencio came in for the 8th and allowed a leadoff double and a sac fly later in the inning made it 3-2 Nashville. Joe Bateman pitched a perfect 9th for his 3rd save for the Sounds. RP Mitch Stetter got the win with 2/3 perfect IP to move to 3-3 with a 2.52 ERA. Starter Nic Ungs worked 7 1/3 innings and allowed 2 ER to move his ERA to 9.28. SS Adam Heether was 3-4 with a double, his 10th homer and an RBI but left the game in the 8th with a leg injury. Only 2 other Sounds had a hit, but 2B-SS Callix Crabbe drew 4 walks.

Omaha is 53-70. A 4-game home set with the Albuquerque Isotopes (54-68, AAA Marlins) starts tonight. Dusty Hughes (2-1, 4.95) starts for Omaha versus Albuquerque's Rick VandenHurk (1-1, 5.91) . Omaha is 5-7 versus the 'Topes.

*** The Natural pitchers' scoreless streak reached 24 innings before Frisco broke it up in the 5th but the Naturals offense more than took care of the rest. Adam Donachie got the scoring started with a 3-run homer in the 2nd for his 5th of the season. Juan Richardson matched that feat with a 3-run homer in the 3rd for his 13th of the season and Mario Lisson doubled in a run later in the inning to make it 7-0 and a 2-out RBI single by Irving Falu in the 4th made it 8-0 NWA. Julio Pimentel was rock solid until giving up a 2-run homer in the 5th and another run on 2 hits in the 6th trimmed the lead to 8-3. Lisson finished the scoring with a 2-out, 2-run double in the 7th. Starter Trey Hodges took the loss for Frisco with 3 IP of 7 ER allowed to fall to 8-8 with a 6.07 ERA. LF Dustin Majewski and DH Chad Tracy both had 2 hits for the RoughRiders. Majewski had 2 doubles (30) and an RBI.

What a sweep....the Naturals are 32-18 and 5 games up on first. They have today off to head out for a Texas road trip. KC and the NWA powers that be have extended their player development contract through the 2012 season.

*** Paulo Orlando victimized his former team in his first game as a Blue Rock and Wilmington held off the Warthogs for the 1-run victory. Orlando hit a 1-out double in the 1st and scored on a Brad Correll single to make it 1-0 Rocks. Everett Teaford gave up 2 singles and a 2-run double before recording an out but settled down from there. Correll hit an RBI groundout in the 3rd to tie the game. The Rocks piled on 2 more runs in the 5th as Orlando ripped an RBI triple and scored on a Chris McConnell single to make it 4-2. Teaford allowed a run on 3 hits in the 5th but Wilmington matched the run in the 6th on a Derrick Robinson RBI single, although Jeff Howell was nailed at the plate trying to score on the play. The Rocks got back to work in the 7th as Correll hit a 2-out double and scored on a Cody Strait single before Strait stole second and scored thanks to 2 Warthog errors on the play to make it 7-3 Wilmington. The Rocks left the bases full in the 8th and Russ Haltiwanger allowed a run on 2 hits in the bottom of the inning to close the lead to 3. Tyler Chambliss came in with 1 on and 1 out in the 9th and allowed an RBI triple and RBI groundout to cut it to 7-6. He walked 2 more batters but got a swinging K to end the game for his 22nd save. Warthog SP Jacob Rasner took the loss with 5 IP of 4 runs (3 ER) allowed to fall to 4-7 with a 3.78 ERA. 3B C.J. Retherford was 3-4 with a walk, RBI and 2 RS and 2B Dale Mollenhauer was 2-5 with 2 K and a RS. CF John Shelby had 3 RBI in the loss but also made 1 of the 5 Warthog errors.

Wilmington is 24-26 and 4 games back. Game 2 of the set is tonight as righty Ed Cegarra (4-6, 5.27) faces Winston-Salem righty Matt Long (7-10, 4.46). P Ray Liotta has been added to the Wilmington roster.

*** The Kernels did all their scoring in 2 innings and the Bees had no answer Monday. Ray Liotta gave up a 2-out, 2-run homer in the 1st but was otherwise solid, which explains in part his call-up to Wilmington after the game. The Bees stranded 2 in the 2nd but Mike Moustakas hit a 2-out RBI single in the 3rd to cut the lead in half. The Bees would leave the bases full, tho, and then strand 2 in the 5th. Paul Raglione took over for Liotta to start the 6th and was riddled for 5 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks before Tony Bradley finished the inning. Jason Taylor led off the Burlington 8th with his 15th homer of the season but the Bees would again leave the bases full. They stranded 1 more in the 9th. RP Ismael Carmona picked up the win with 2 1/3 IP of scoreless ball to improve to 1-3 with a 6.38 ERA. Starter Jeremy Haynes allowed an ER over 2 2/3 IP to move his ERA to 2.67. Five Kernels had 2 hits and 3 had 2 RBI. LF Jeremy Moore was in both groups and added 2 SBs (27). So was RF Julio Perez, who cranked his 13th homer and stole his 18th base.

The Bees are 30-19 and 3 games up on first. The series ends tonight as Danny Gutierrez (4-2, 2.36) takes on Kernels SP Michael Davitt (5-7, 4.73). P Brent Fisher has made his return to the Bees roster.

*** Both teams had a comeback but Great Falls got the win in the opener with Idaho Falls. Patrick Norris led off the game with a double and scored on a Voyagers error to get the scoring started. He came back up in the 2nd and singled in a run to make it 2-0 IF. Great Falls got on the board in the 4th with a leadoff homer off Colby Beach and then got another leadoff homer in the 5th to tie it. Beach was pulled with 1 out and runners at the corners and Orlando Rada allowed an RBI forceout to make it 3-2 Voyagers before escaping the inning. Sean McCauley tied the game with an RBI single in the 6th but Great Falls regained the lead in the bottom of the inning on 2 hits and a McCauley throwing error. That was it as the Chukars would strand 2 in the 9th and RP Stephen Sauer picked up his 5th save for Great Falls. RP Dan Remenowsky got the win despite his 1st blown save with an unearned run allowed in an inning of work to move to 2-0 with a spotless ERA. Starter Dan Hudson worked 5 innings of 2 runs (1 ER) allowed to make his ERA 2.87. RF Lyndon Estill and 3B Kyle Shelton had 2 hits for Great Falls as Shelton hit his 2nd homer and had 2 RBI. Estill hit his 6th homer of the season, stole his 8th base and had 2 OF assists. Shelton made his 7th error.

IF is 5-9. Game 2 is tonight as Ivor Hodgson (2-4, 4.00) squares off with Great Falls' Dexter Carter (4-1, 2.59)

*** John Flanagan paced a good night for the Royals with 5 scoreless innings in a 5-2 Royal win. Josh Vittek hit a 2-run double in the 1st and Miguel Moctezuma hit an RBI groundout in the 4th to make it 3-0. Flanagan handed a 3-hit shutout to the pen in the 6th but Kelvin Herrera allowed a run on 2 hits and an Angel Franco error in the 7th to spoil the blanking. Burlington answered with 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th on a 2-run Franco single (making up for the error) and it was 5-1 B-Royals. Herrera allowed a run in the 8th but Barry Bowden got the last 4 outs for his 6th save. Starter Brad Furdal took the loss for the Rays with 3 IP of 2 ER allowed to drop to 1-1 with a 9.35 ERA. SS Diogenes Luis was 3-5 with an RBI and '08 #1 overall pick DH Tim Beckham was 1-4 with a walk, 2 K and RS to move to .230.

The Royals are 17-35. Game 2 is tonight and there are no announced starters on the team site.

*** The Giants only had 2 innings where they failed to score and the Royals made a late surge into double digits in the loss. Neal Musser made a rehab appearance and was pulled with 2 out and the bases loaded in the 1st. A Jose Bonilla passed ball held the Giants to 1 run as Mitch Hodge finished the inning. He allowed a run on 2 hits in the 2nd and then the Giants scored 5 in the 3rd on 3 walks, 3 hits and a Yowill Espinal error to make it 7-0. Gary Cuevas took the hits in the 5th with 5 more Giant runs on 4 hits, a walk and a Lifete Jose error. The Royals got on the board with 3 in the 5th on a Deivy Batista RBI single, Derek Rodriguez RBI groundout and Espinal RBI single but that only cut it to 12-3. The Giants got 2 more runs off Cuevas in the 6th and the Royals scored a run in the inning on a Batista RBI single. The Royals surged again in the 7th with 5 runs on a 2-run Luis Del Rosario double, a Batista RBI double and 2-run Alexis Marte double to cut the lead to 14-9. The Giants got a run on 2 hits and a wild pitch by Casey Feickert in the 8th and almost needed it as the Royals scored 4 more runs in the 8th on a 2-run Batista single, a run-scoring Giant error and a Jose sac fly that made it 15-13. Angel Martinez gave the Giants some insurance with 2 runs allowed on 3 hits in the 9th. The Royals stranded 1 in the 9th. RP Chris Wilson got the win for the Giants with 1 2/3 IP of hitless relief to improve to 4-1 with a 2.60 ERA. Starter Kelvin Marte worked 4 innings and allowed 3 ER to move his ERA to 2.33. 2B Josh Lopez was 4-5 with his 9th error and 4 RS. 3B Conor Gillaspie was 3-6 with a double, 5 RBI and RS and SS Joel Weeks was 3-5 with a walk and 4 RS. Four other Giants had 2 hits.

The Royals are 3-10 and play the 6-7 A's tonight.
