AAA: Former O-Royal Les Walrond shut down Omaha on behalf of Albuquerque in a complete-game 4-hitter as the Isotopes won, 8-0. LF Aaron Guiel was doubled off second for the second consecutive game on a line out and RF Jaime Jones was thrown out at home at one point in the 5th. SP Jimmy Gobble dropped to 1-6 as he went 6 IP and gave up 4 ER on 9 hits and a BB while K'ing 4 as his ERA shifted to 7.38. RP Jeremy Affeldt made his third rehab appearance and went 1 IP and gave up 3 ER on 3 hits and a BB while K'ing 3 as his AAA ERA is now 9.00. RP Jaime Cerda went 1 IP and gave up 1 ER on 1 hit and 2 BB with 2 Ks as his ERA is also 9.00. 2B Justin Gemoll was 1-3 with a walk to improve to .315. SS Alejandro Prieto had the team's only extra-base hit with a double as he went 1-3 to improve to .252.
Omaha is 22-29 and 5 games out of first. They had lost 4 straight coming into this afternoon's series finale with Albuquerque. RH Dennis Tankersley (3-2, 5.13) went up against Isotopes RH Peter Bauer (1-4, 7.58) in today's game, which is on-going.
AA: A 3-run 6th gave Wichita a lead and the bullpen held San Antonio to 1 hit as the Wranglers pulled out a 4-3 win. Wichita tied the game at 1 in the 5th on an RBI single by CF Mel Stocker and rallied in the 6th on an RBI single by 3B Brennan King and a big 2-run double by SS Mike Aviles. The Missions scored 2 in the 7th to tighten the game but Wichita relievers Nate Hoelscher and Shawn Sonnier closed out the win. SP Derrin Ebert got the win to move to 2-1 with 6 IP of 3 ER on 5 hits and 4 Ks. His ERA is 5.05. RP Barry Armitage came in in the 6th and went 2/3 IP and gave up 2 BB but 0 hits as his ERA shrunk to 5.74. Hoelscher went 1/3 IP and didn't give up anything as his ERA moved to 6.75. Sonnier picked up his 3rd save as he went 2 IP and gave up 0 ER on 1 hit with 2 Ks. His ERA is 2.29. Aviles was 2-4 with the double and 2 RBI to improve to .280. 1B Josh Pressley was 0-3 with a BB to drop to .317. C John Draper was 0-4 to drop to .299. Justin Huber didn't play.
Wichita is 26-24 and 5 games out of first. The Wranglers begin a 4-game set with Corpus Christi (16-34)tonight. Brian Bass (5-2, 4.92) will get the start for Wichita. In other news, Kyle Middleton was named the Texas League Pitcher of the Week for May 23-29. He went 2-0 in two starts with a complete game and struck out seven over 16 innings of work, allowing only one earned run (two total) on eight hits and four walks. Kyle currently leads the TL in IP (73.0) and ranks 3rd with his 2.59 ERA. His six wins put him in a three-way tie for first in the league. Shawn Sonnier was the league pitcher of the week for the prior week.
High-A: I accidentally reported on Sunday's game yesterday. Oops. In Saturday's game, which wasn't reported on, Inland Empire roasted High Desert by a 15-6 score. Kiha Kaanoi picked up the loss to drop to 2-6 with a 6.41 ERA.
High Desert is 24-25 and 3 games out of first. A 4-game set at Lancaster (28-23) starts tonight.
Low-A: Burlington P Adam Rowe gave up 3 runs in the 8th and the Bees lost to Dayton, 5-3. Burlington scored a run in the 2nd when CF Alan Moye scored on a wild pitch to tie the game. The Bees added a run in the 3rd on a sac fly by 3B Mario Lisson. Dayton tied the game but the Bees regained it with a run in the 6th on a solo homer by DH Miguel Vega (his 2nd) before Dayton's big 8th. SP Luis Cota went 6 good innings and gave up 2 R (1 ER) on 4 hits with 1 K as his ERA dropped to 1.91. Rowe got the L to drop to 3-2 and get his 2nd blown save with 2 IP in which he gave up 3 ER on 4 hits while K'ing 3. His ERA is 4.84. RP Greg Atencio pitched 1 inning and struck out the side. His ERA dropped to 4.42. Vega was 2-4 with the HR and RBI to improve to .255. SS Edward Lucas was 1-4 to drop to .324.
Burlington is 22-27 and 6 1/2 games out of first. Dayton RH Homer Bailey (1–1, 1.91) goes up against RH Patrick Green (2–3, 3.63) in today's series finale, which should almost be over if not already.
