*** That smell drifting outward from Omaha was the O-Royals Thursday as they got 4-hit by Jered Weaver and three of their 4 pitchers in the tilt got hammered, likely after the game as well as during. The defense also threw in 4 errors. While Omaha scattered its hits and sprinkled in a couple walks and a HBP, Salt Lake touched up Snyder for 3 in the 4th and then opened up for 8 in the 7th off Snyder and Brooks. Elder allowed 2 in the 8th to make the score 13-0 and the O-Royals salvaged a shred of dignity as Phillips sac flied a run home in the 9th. Omaha is 15-18. Weaver allowed only 3 hits with 4 K and 0 BB over 7 IP to move to 3-1 with a 2.79 ERA. Bees LF Curtis Pride was 4-5 to improve to .270, 1B Kendry Morales was 3-5 to move to .256, C Jeff Mathis was 1-4 to drop to .333 and RF Nick Gorneault was 2-4 with his 5th homer to move to .304.

Omaha will try to salvage a split of the 4-game series tonight. Pitchers: Salt Lake RH Dustin Moseley (5-1, 2.92) vs. Omaha RH Adam Bernero (1-1, 3.60)
. In other news, Dee Brown got his week's worth of seasoning at Wichita and is now in Omaha, despite the fact he wasn't ripping the cover off the ball for the Wranglers. It's another move I don't get, although the O-Royals did need another body on the bench. Saturday, a 4-game home set with the Colorado Springs Sky Sox (12-22 as of Friday morning, AAA Rockies) begins.

AA - Wichita: off day

Wichita begins a 5-game home set with Springfield tonight. I reported the pitchers yesterday -- Cards' Stuart Pomeranz v. Wichita's Ryan Snare. Also, on a sad note, the Wranglers' team site has now overtaken High Desert's as the crappiest in the organization. They do have some all right merchandise, however. I purchased one of the Alex Gordon T-shirts they have there a couple weeks ago. It was a little steep for a T-shirt but he looks to be worth the cash. Delivery was super quick. They also have a Billy Butler T-shirt and I think Mitch Maier's will be coming soon. Probably one for Lubanski will be down the pike a few weeks. I may also spring for the Lubanski.

High-A - High Desert: off day

A three-game set at Rancho Cucamonga starts tonight. Pitchers: Quakes SP Fernando Rodriguez (3-2, 4.68 ERA) vs. Mavericks SP Patrick Hicklen (0-5, 9.00 ERA).

Low-A - Burlington: rainout

A four-game home set with Quad Cities begins tonight. No makeup date has been announced for Thursday's rainout with South Bend. Friday's pitchers: Bees' SP Carlos Rosa (2-3, 2.64) vs. QC SP Jaime Garcia (2-2, 2.50). May be a good pitchers' duel.
