The O-Royals shrugged off a 1st inning Redbird run to get a 4-1 win and snap a 6-game skid versus Memphis. Zach Day looked good in another rehab start but gave up a run in the 1st. Shane Costa extended his hitting streak with a leadoff single in the 1st and scored on a Justin Huber single to tie it at 1. Huber hit a 2-out, 2-run single in the 3rd off SP Troy Cate to make it 3-1 and Day retired 11 of 12 Redbirds before giving way for Billy Buckner in the 5th. A Costa RBI single in the 4th stretched the lead to 4-1 and Buckner gave up a leadoff single in the 5th before retiring six straight. RP Jason Shiell faced no huge problems in finishing out the game from the 7th on to pick up his 2nd save. Omaha is 12-15 and 3 games back. Memphis had only 4 hits in the loss. LF John Rodriguez was 1-3 with his 5th RBI to move to .196 and Cate took the loss with 4 R (3 ER) on 9 hits and a walk over 5 IP to drop to 1-1 with a 2.70 ERA.

A big 2nd inning and two late inning rallies got Wichita the win in a shootout Wednesday. John Bale got the rehab start and gave up a 2-out walk and then a 2-run homer to 3B Juan Richardson to give the Cardinals a 2-0 lead. The Wranglers hit Springfield starter Mitch Boggs hard in the 2nd as they rallied for 8 runs on RBI singles by Ed Lucas and Adam Donachie, a catcher interference call that scored a run, a 2-run single by Geraldo Valentin and a 3-run homer by Craig Brazell (his 7th) to take an 8-2 lead. Danny Christensen relieved Bale in the 2nd and got touched up for 2 runs in the 3rd thanks in part to a Donachie throwing error on a steal attempt. The Cardinals rallied for 3 runs off Christensen with 1 out in the 5th to close the gap to 8-7 but Wichita got a run back in the bottom of the inning on a Valentin RBI single. Adam Greenberg was thrown out at home to end the inning on the play. Cody Smith came in for the 6th and gave up 3 runs thanks in part to an Ed Lucas error at third and Springfield had turned the 6-run deficit into a 1-run lead at 10-9. Springfield reliever Matt Scherer came in with 1 out and 1 on in the 7th and Wichita struck again as a Jace Brewer double was followed by a 2-run Greenberg triple and a Valentin sac fly to make it 12-10 Wichita. The Wranglers loaded the bases with none out in the 8th off RP Jason Motte and cashed in with a run on a wild pitch and a 2-run double by Valentin, who had a huge day. Gabe DeHoyos pitched 3 perfect innings of relief to get his 1st win of the season. Wichita is 11-13 and 1/2 a game back of Tulsa. Richardson was 4-5 for Springfield with his 3rd homer, 4 RBI (13) and 2 RS to move to .250, CF Colby Rasmus was 2-4 with his 2nd SB, 8th double, 2 RBI (13) and 4 RS to move to .247 and DH Joe Mather was 2-5 with his 6th double and 3 RBI (19) to move to .329. Boggs' ERA ballooned to 5.47 but Scherer took the loss and blown save with 2 ER on 3 hits and a walk over 2/3 IP to move to 1-1 with a 1.80 ERA.

The teams are set for a twinbill tonight. Probable starters -- game 1: Wichita righty Luke Hochevar (2-2, 3.46) vs. Springfield righty Cory Rauschenberger (0-2, 15.19); game 2: lefty Mike Connolly (2-0, 4.42) vs. Cards lefty Kevin Ool (1-0, 1.69).

Oliveros 5 IP, 3 H, 3 K -- W, 1-0, 1.53 ERA
Humen IP, H, BB -- 1.64 ERA

A day after nearly getting no-hit by the Keys, the Blue Rocks pounded out 9 runs and had five players with a multi-hit game in a drubbing of Frederick. Patrick Green started the game for the Rocks and covered first on a grounder and came up lame. He left the game and there's no report of whether he'll miss any time. Rowdy Hardy came in and got through the 1st before Wilmington scratched out 2 in its half on a Miguel Vega RBI single and Brian McFall RBI double off rehabbing P Scott Williamson to make it 2-0. Rayner Oliveros took over on the mound for Wilmington in the 4th and pitched well with Kiel Thibault helping out with a solo homer in the 4th for his 1st of the season to make it 3-0. Wilmington blew it open with 6 in the 7th on 7 singles and 3 walks. McFall, Wilver Perez and Valentino Arce had RBI singles followed by a 2-run single by Jose Duarte before a bases-loaded walk by Vega forced the 9th Wilmington run home. Oliveros had little trouble over 5 IP and David Humen stranded 2 in the 9th. Wilmington is 9-16 and 5 games back. Keys 3B Ryan Finan was 2-3 with his 4th double to move to .262, RF Arturo Rivas was 1-4 to drop to .404 and Williamson took the loss with 2 ER on 3 hits in 1 IP to make his ERA 13.50.

Hayes 2 1/3 IP, nothing -- W, 1-2, 3.48 ERA
Hartsock 2 IP, K -- 3.97 ERA

Harold Mozingo and 2 relievers 3-hit the Lugnuts as Burlington snapped its 5-game slide. All Burlington's work was done in the first 4 innings as the Bees scored 1 in the 1st on a Lugnut error that scored Derrick Robinson and 1 in the 2nd on Jeremy Jirschele's solo homer for his 1st of the season. Mozingo got out of a 2-in-scoring-position jam in the 2nd and the Bees scored 5 in the 3rd on a Kurt Mertins RBI single, a 2-run single by Scott Lucas and a 2-run Jirschele double to make it 7-0. The lead reached double digits with 4 in the 4th on an RBI single by Mike Thompson, an RBI double by Mertins, an RBI ground out by Matt Morizio and a bases-loaded walk by Robinson that made it 11-0. Mozingo was pulled one out shy of qualifying for the win and Chris Hayes and Aaron Hartsock pitched 4 1/3 innings of perfect relief to end it. Burlington is 11-13 and 3 games back. 1B Matt Lane was 1-3 with his 2nd E and 2nd double for Lansing to move to .132, RF Travis Snider was 0-4 with 2 K to drop to .375 and SP Nathan Starner took the loss with 11 ER on 12 hits and a walk with 5 K over 3 IP to drop to 2-3 with a 6.12 ERA.

The series ended today with another Bee shutout victory. Starters were Bees RH Josh Cribb (0-1, 5.68) and Lansing RH Zach Dials (2-0, 2.12). There was no Jeff Bianchi for a third straight game today, but the site has no mention of an injury. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
