Royals on the Farm 4/10 - Winless in Wilmington

I can't decide who looks more done now, Gil Meche or David Ortiz.

2B Maddox 3-5, 2 RBI (4), RS -- .412
3B Betemit 2-5, RBI (4), 2 K -- .235
CF Lough 1-4, 2B, RBI (2), K -- .235
1B Ka'aihue 0-2, 3 BB, K -- .250, isn't gonna get anywhere with KC with 0 hits but a .600 OBP on the day
RF Parraz 0-4, 2 K, E, OF assist at second -- .125

Chen 5 2/3 IP, 3 ER, 7 H, 2 BB, 6 K -- L, 0-1, 4.76 ERA
Marte 2 1/3 IP, ER, 2 H, 2 K, WP -- 2.08 ERA
B. Wood IP, 2 ER, 3 H, K -- 9.00 ERA

* Omaha's offense didn't get going until the Royals were down 3 and they couldn't get back in the game. Memphis plated a run in the 1st and David Lough hit into a double play with the bases loaded to stymie a rally in Omaha's half. Memphis scored again in the 2nd and then pushed home a run in the 5th to make it 3-0 Redbirds. Lough came through with a 2-out RBI double in the 6th to get Omaha on the board as Rich Hill had a good first outing for the AAA Cardinals affiliate. Marc Maddox hit an RBI single in the 7th to cut the lead to 1 but Victor Marte gave the run back in the 8th and Blake Wood served up a 2-run double in the 9th to help Memphis salt the game away. Maddox and Wilson Betemit hit 2-out RBI singles in the 9th to put the tying run on base but Kila Ka'aihue struck out swinging to end it. Hill gave up 3 hits but walked 6 with 5 Ks over 6 IP in the winning effort. Four Redbirds had multiple hits led by a 3-hit game from RF Mark Shorey. LF Jon Jay had 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Righty Brad Thompson started today's series finale for Omaha. Mike Aviles is headed to Omaha as Meche was activated today. Omaha is 1-2 and 2 games back.

* The Naturals battled back to tie it in the 7th and go ahead for good in the 8th. Eduardo Paulino gave up 2 runs before notching an out in the 1st but escaped without further damage and Ernesto Mejia picked him up with a 2-run blast in the bottom of the frame for his 1st of 2010. Paulo Orlando nailed a runner at the plate to end the SA 2nd but Paulino gave up a solo homer in the 4th to make it 3-2 Missions. Manny Pina hit a 2-out, pinch-hit RBI single in the 7th to tie the game and Kurt Mertins hit the go-ahead single with 2 out in the 8th to give NWA the lead. Brandon Sisk pitched a 1-2-3 9th to finish it. RP Bryan Oland took the loss for the Missions. 2B Logan Forsythe had 2 hits and an RBI for San Antonio. Lefty Edgar Osuna takes the mound for NWA today in the first of 3 with the Corpus Christi Hooks (AA Astros). NWA is 2-1 and a game up on first.

A-Adv. - Wilmington: Myrtle Beach 6, Blue Rocks 4

1B Hosmer 2-4, 2B, 3B (2), 2 K, 2 RS -- .500, best thing going in Royals minors thus far
CF Norris 2-4, BB, 2 K, SB -- .154
LF Romak 1-4, 2 RBI (5) -- .308, earning his keep thus far
RF Ortiz 1-4, S, RBI (2), 2 K, 2 SB (3) -- .250
3B Gordon 0-3, BB, SF, RBI -- .333

Dwyer 4 IP, 2 ER, 2 H, 4 BB, 4 K, 2 WP -- 4.50 ERA
J. Thompson 2 2/3 IP, 3 ER, H, 5 BB, 2 K -- L, 0-1, 9.82 ERA, death by BB
Baumann 1 1/3 IP, ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 2 K, WP -- 2.70 ERA

* Just as Wilmington took command in the 7th, they lost it as the Pelicans set up a chance at a 4-game sweep with the win. Eric Hosmer tripled and scored on a Jamie Romak groundout in the 2nd but the Pelicans answered with a run off Chris Dwyer to tie it at 1. Hosmer hit a 2-out double and scored on a Romak single in the 4th, but the Rocks would leave the bases loaded. Three walks and 2 wild pitches by Dwyer in the 4th helped the Pelicans respond, however, to tie it at 2. An Alex Gordon sac fly in the 5th gave the Rocks their third lead, but this time, James Thompson walked the bases full and allowed the tying run to score in the bottom of the frame. Adrian Ortiz hit the go-ahead RBI single in the 7th but, again, the Rocks would leave the bases full. Thompson gave up a walk and 2-out game-tying double in the 7th before Buddy Baumann came in and allowed 2 more runs to score on 2 hits and a wild pitch. This time, Wilmington wouldn't respond. RP Chad Rodgers got the win for the Pelicans. DH Jesus Sucre had 3 hits and 2 RBI (4) for Myrtle Beach. Alex Caldera is starting today's series finale for Wilmington. The Rocks are 0-3 and 2 games out.

The offenses took a break until the 8th, when Testa ripped his first homer of the season to tie the game at 4.
