The Royals blew a narrow lead late and lost in the bottom of the 9th. With 2 on and 2 out in the 2nd, Matt Tupman doubled home 2 runs but, when Richie Lewis followed with a single, Tupman was thrown out at home to end the inning. SP Jason Shiell gave up 2 2-out doubles to cut the lead to 2-1 in the bottom of the inning. Omaha stranded 2 while Portland left the bases full in the 5th and the 2-1 lead held into the Portland 7th. RP Gabe DeHoyos walked the leadoff guy in that inning, who then stole second and a single brought him home to tie it at 2. With 2 out and none on in the 9th, RP Neal Musser gave up a single before a Craig Brazell fielding error kept the inning alive and 1B Brian Myrow singled home the winning run to end it. Omaha is 30-28 and 4 1/2 games back. Portland RF Vince Sinisi was 2-5 with a RS, his 4th SB and an OF assist at home to move to .333, 3B Craig Stansberry was 2-5 with his 32nd RBI and 5th SB to move to .319 and RP Leo Rosales got the win with a walk in an IP to move to 1-1 with a 2.25 ERA.
The series wraps today. Starters: Omaha RH Matt Wright (3-2, 3.10) vs. Beavers RH Mike Thompson (1-5, 9.73).

Wilmington came from behind 3 times but Kinston got the last laugh with 2 in the 9th to win it. The game was scoreless into the 3rd when Mario Lisson hit his 4th homer -- a 2-run shot to right -- and the Rocks took a 2-0 lead. With 2 out and 1 on in the 4th, SP Blake Johnson gave up a double, 2-run single and 2-run homer to give the K-Tribe a 4-2 lead. The Blue Rocks fought back in the 5th with 4 runs on a Jose Duarte RBI single, a 2-run double by Lisson and Kila Kaaihue RBI ground out to make it 6-4 Wilmington. Chris Nicoll relieved Johnson to start the 6th and his line for the inning went walk, pop out, walk, wild pitch, walk and run scoring wild pitch before he was pulled for Justin Barnes. Barnes gave up a 2-run double but got out of the inning with no more damage as Kinston took a 7-6 lead. Kaaihue hit a 2-out solo homer in the 7th for his 8th of the season to tie the game and Wilmington regained the lead in the 8th on a 2-out RBI single by Duarte to make it 8-7. Closer Gilbert de la Vara came on for the 9th and put 2 on with 2 outs before Kinston 1B Stephen Head singled to right and RF Brian McFall made an error that allowed a second run to score to give the K-Tribe a 9-8 lead. Wilmington went down in order in the 9th to end it. Wilmington is 27-28 and 1 1/2 games back. Tribe DH Michael Aubrey was 3-4 with his 4th double to move to .349, 2B Jared Goedert was 2-3 with his first 2 RBI and 2 RS to move to .188 and RF Nathan Panther was 1-3 with his 6th homer and 2 RBI (11) to move to .236. RP Matt Meyer blew his 1st save but picked up the win with 1 1/3 IP of 2 ER on 4 hits and 2 Ks to move to 1-0 with a 6.43 ERA. RP Scott Roehl picked up his 8th save.

Two big innings got Cedar Rapids the win in the first of two games Monday. Five hits, a Josh Cribb wild pitch and 2 Bees errors (including 1 by Cribb) reaped the Kernels 4 runs in the 1st and Cedar Rapids was off and running. Brady Everett and Kurt Mertins led off the Bees 2nd with doubles and Jeff Howell and Mike Thompson singled home runs to cut the lead to 4-2 before a Jeremy Jirschele RBI ground out cut it to 4-3. Cedar Rapids got 3 straight 1-out hits in the 4th to score a 5th run and chase Cribb before RP Ed Cegarra gave up back-to-back doubles to score 3 more runs before getting out of the inning. Cegarra gave up a 2-out 2-run double in the 5th and the Kernels led, 10-3. With 2 out in the Bees 5th, Everett cranked a 3-run homer to left center for his 5th of the season and the lead was cut to 10-6. The Bees got 3 base runners but no runs in the 6th and stranded 2 in the 7th to end it. Cedar Rapids DH Abel Nieves was 3-4 with 2 doubles (5) and 3 RBI (6) to move to .359, CF Chris Pettit was 2-3 with his 23rd double and 3 RBI (31) to move to .364 and SP Blake Holler got the win with 5 IP of 6 runs (3 ER) on 7 hits with 5 Ks to move to 1-3 with a 4.32 ERA.

Another early Kernel onslaught got the Cedar Rapids the sweep of the double dip. Newest Bee SP Jim Wladyka got a rude introduction to the Midwest League with 5 runs in the 1st on 5 hits and a walk. The Bees loaded the bases with 1 out in the bottom of the 1st and a Joe Dickerson sac fly got them on the scoreboard. The Kernels' pitchers didn't give up another hit until the 7th. Three walks and a 2-run double off Wladyka in the 2nd made it 7-1 and that's where it stuck. The Bees scattered 2 walks before loading the bases with 1 out in the bottom of the 7th only to leave them that way. Burlington is 25-32. Kernels 2B Ryan Mount was 3-4 with his 8th error to move to .264, 3B Matt Sweeney was 2-3 with 2 doubles (10) and 2 RBI (20) to move to .277 and Pettit was 2-4 with his 32nd RBI to move to .367. RP Barret Browning got the win with 2 IP of a walk and 3 Ks to improve to 3-1 with a 4.25 ERA.
The series ends tonight. Probable starters: Bees LH Ryan DiPietro (2-2, 4.50) vs. Kernels RH Trevor Bell (0-2, 4.09).
