* Omaha sent Rosenblatt out on a winning note Thursday. Round Rock nicked Luke Hochevar for a run in the 1st but Mike Moustakas cranked his 15th AAA homer for a 2-run shot to make it 2-1 Royals before the inning was over. The Royals added runs in the 3rd on a Scott Thorman sac fly and run-scoring wild pitch. Edgar Osuna allowed a run in the 4th but Jarrod Dyson hit an RBI single that inning. Kurt Mertins hit an RBI single in the 8th and the last 8 Express batters went down consecutively. Omaha is 78-62 and 2 1/2 games out. They end the season with 4 at the Oklahoma City RedHawks (72-67, AAA Rangers) starting Friday. On a good note, the Royals would be leading any of the 3 other divisions in the PCL. On a bad note, not their own, tho. Luis Mendoza starts the opener with the RedHawks.

* Everett Teaford looked very good once more as the Nats took game 1 of a Thursday double dip. NWA broke out with 4 in the 2nd on a run-scoring wild pitch, a Chris McConnell RBI single, and 2-run Johnny Giavotella double. Manny Pina followed with a sac fly in the 3rd and Anthony Seratelli hit an RBI groundout to make it 6-0. Giavotella scored on an error in the 4th and the rest was up to Teaford. His only damage was an RBI double in the 6th. Barry Bowden got the last 2 outs.

* The Naturals rode Danny Duffy to a doubleheader sweep of the Travelers. Jamie Romak hit an RBI single in the 2nd and the Rocks scored 3 in the 3rd on a Johnny Giavotella solo shot (his 9th) and 2-run blast by Clint Robinson (his 28th) sandwiched around an Eric Hosmer double. A run-scoring balk made it 5-0 in the 4th. Duffy stranded 2 in the 3rd but otherwise had no problems before rain cut it short. NWA is 41-25. The series ends Friday.

* The Pelicans scored 4 late runs to take the series finale. The Rocks rallied for 3 runs with 2 outs in the 4th as Ernesto Mejia hit an RBI double and Nick Francis followed with a 2-run shot for his 14th of the season. The Pelicans got 1 off Buddy Baumann in the 5th and tied it off Jairo Cuevas with a 2-run shot in the 7th. The Rocks squandered a scoring chance in the 7th and Myrtle Beach scored 2 in the 8th on another 2-run homer off Cuevas. Francis went solo for his 15th of the season and 2nd of the game in the 8th but the Rocks couldn't get that tying run. The Rocks are 34-31 and 2 games back with 3 to play. They have Friday off. Eric Hosmer and Adrian Ortiz were honored as Carolina League Postseason All Stars.

* Another day, another loss for the Bees. Sugar Ray Marimon gave up homers in each of the first 2 innings and even Burlington's 1 run was double-edged as Whit Merrifield singled home a run in the 5th but was thrown out trying to stretch it to a double to end the inning. The Kernels answered with 2 in the 5th and the Bees squandered a chance in the 8th. The Bees are 21-42. C Jose Bonilla got called up to Omaha.

* The Chukars are taking another pounding at the moment. Justin Trapp was thrown out at the plate to end the IF 1st and Ogden scored 2 on back-to-back homers off Brennon Martin in the opening inning. The Raptors went back-to-back-to-back in a 5-run 3rd to make it 7-0. Malcom Culver hit an RBI double in the 5th but Ogden answered with 2 in the bottom of the inning. Murray Watts singled in a run and an error scored another run to cut it to 9-3 in the 6th. Ogden has padded the lead with a run in the 7th. IF is 7-23. The Chukars lost, 6-2, Wednesday. A 3-game home set with the Orem Owlz (15-14, Rookie Angels) starts Friday.

* The B-Royals went out with a bang in 2010, but unfortunately it was a lot of bangs by the Cardinal bats as Johnson City scored 10 in the 2nd en route to the easy trip to the Appy League Championship Series. The Cards scored 1 off Willian Avinazar in the 1st and then battered Avinazar and Claudio Bavera in the 2nd. Eight hits, 2 walks and a HBP later, it was 11-0. The Royals wasted a bases-loaded situation in the 3rd and Johnson City poured on 4 more runs in the 4th. Luis Piterson broke up the shutout with an RBI groundout in the 5th but Jake Ramsey gave up a 2-run homer in the bottom of the inning. Ryan Stovall tripled and scored on an error in the 8th but Ramsey gave up 2 homers for 3 runs that inning. The Royals finished the season 34-34 and 0-2 in the playoffs.
