A-Adv. - Wilmington: Blue Rocks 3, Frederick 0 (4-hitter)

2B Merrifield 2-4, RBI (36) -- .262

Keck 2 IP, H, 4 K, WP -- SV, 4, 5.56 ERA

* Justin Marks put together a gem with some backup from Jon Keck and the Rocks finished the season with a W. Joey Lewis cranked a 2-run homer in the 2nd for his 7th of the season and Whit Merrifield added an RBI single to give Marks a 3-0 lead. The Rocks kept the pressure on but could plate no more runners. The Keys got runners at the corners with 0 out in the 7th, but a strike-him-out, throw-him-out DP and swinging K got Marks out of the jam. Keck pitched the final 2 innings for his 4th save. Wilmington finished the season 30-39 in the second half and 66-72 overall. Stat recap tomorrow. For the record, I predicted 74-64 this season, so I was off a bit.

Graham IP, ER, H, 3 BB -- 10.80 ERA
Giovenco IP, K -- 6.93 ERA

* The Cougars were behind the 8-ball early and couldn't recover in Monday's regular season finale. Jason Mitchell teed up a 2-run homer before he recorded an out in the 1st, and the LumberKings got another run in the 2nd to make it 3-0. Orlando Calixte hit a sac fly in the 2nd. Clinton tacked on 2 more runs off Mitchell in the 4th. Manager Vance Wilson was ejected between the 5th and 6th innings, and Alex Rivers gave up 3 runs in the 6th to make it 8-1. Brian Fletcher went deep for a 2-run shot in the 6th for his 14th of the season but the 'Kings would add another run in the 8th and hold it from there. KC finished the regular season 37-33 and 65-74 overall. Stat recap tomorrow. The playoffs start Wednesday at home with the first game of a best-of-3 with Burlington (31-37, 76-62 overall, A A's). Greg Billo will start. I did better with this prediction...I called 65-71 for the Cougars before the season.
