Royals on the Farm 6/29 and 6/30

NOTE: One more day with some condensing, then hopefully we're back in full action on Wednesday.

AAA - Omaha: Oklahoma 2, O-Royals 0 (no hitter, 7/G1 Sun.)

CF Maier 0-2, BB, K, SB (6) -- .301

*** Dustin Nippert pulled the no-hit trick on the O-Royals in the shortened doubleheader game. Two walks and two errors kept Nippert from the perfecto. Omaha's best chance came in the 3rd when they stranded 2. The no-hitter was the first in RedHawks history.

*** It wasn't really as close as it but Oklahoma rallied in the last 2 innings to make the final deficit only 2. Three O-Royals had 2 RBI games and 5 had 2-hit games. Jeff Fulchino picked up the win despite allowing 4 runs in only 2 1/3 IP. Omaha scored 7 in the 4th to fuel the win.

Iowa 6, O-Royals 3 (Mon.)

DH Shealy 2-4, BB, 2 K -- .256
LF Lubanski 2-4, 2B (11), 2 K -- .244, 74 Ks, 23 BB in 64 games and 217 ABs, only Jason Smith has more Ks on team

Yabuta 2 1/3 IP, 3 ER, 6 H, BB, K, HRA -- L, 0-1, 6.23 ERA, so far, so bad in AAA

*** Omaha stranded 12 as Iowa took the opener of a 4-game set. Omaha was up, 3-0, in the 5th but Dusty Hughes lost the lead on a 3-run homer in the 6th and Yasuhiko Yabuta got pounded for 3 runs in the 8th to make it 6-3 I-Cubs.

Omaha is 41-41 and 7 games out. Game 2 with Iowa is tonight. Probable starters: Omaha
RH Matt Wright (3-4, 5.38) vs. Cubs RH Kevin Hart (1-1, 3.41). The Royals are 2-7 versus Iowa.

AA - NW Arkansas: Naturals 7, Corpus Christi 4 (Sun.)

DH Maddox 2-5, K, RS -- .281

Crist 2 IP, H, K -- SV, 4, 3.83 ERA

*** A 4-run 4th helped the Nats shake off the stink and get the win as Jose Duarte stepped up his game at the plate with 2 doubles and 3 RBI. Kila Kaaihue also hit his 18th longball of the season in support of Blake Johnson. The Nats had only scored 7 runs twice in the last 15 games.

Naturals 7, Corpus Christi 3 (Mon.)

LF Suero 2-4, 3B (5), 3 RBI (14), K, RS, picked off -- .279

C. Hayes 4 IP, H, 4 K -- SV, 5, 1.98 ERA, submariner doing well at AA

*** Dan Cortes gave up 3 runs in the 1st but the Naturals came back to score 7 again and take down the Hooks. Ovandy Suero was the man in Monday's game with 3 RBI on a bases-loaded triple in the 2nd. Three 8th inning runs were the gravy for NWA.

The Nats are 4-7 and 2.5 games back. They go for the sweep of the Hooks tonight with Blake Wood (1-3, 6.33) on the mound.

Haltiwanger IP, BB, K -- W, 2-1, 3.72 ERA

*** Everett Teaford pitched a rock solid game but got no decision as a David Wood walkoff single in the 9th ended it. Wilmington tied it in the 7th on a Jarrod Dyson RBI groundout before Wood got the win in the 9th.

Lynchburg 6, Blue Rocks 3 (Mon.)

2B Bianchi 3-4, 2 2B (16), RBI (36), RS -- .249

Holland 2 IP, UER, H, BB, K -- 3.47 ERA
Barrera 2 IP, 3 K -- 2.48 ERA

*** Daniel Moskos got his 7th win of the season as the Hillcats romped past Paul Mildren to even the series despite Jeff Bianchi's efforts of a 3-hit, 2-double game. Unfortunately he was the only Rock with more than 1 hit.

The Rocks are 4-7 and 4 games back going into the series finale tonight with Lynchburg. Probable starters: Rocks righty Ed Cegarra (2-3, 4.71) and Lynchburg’s Michael Crotta (6-5, 5.65).

Baldwin IP, H, pickoff -- W, 1-0, 2.89 ERA

*** Both teams scored twice in the 1st and the game was tied going into the 9th when Jamar Walton led off with a double and Johnny Giavotella polished off a good game with a walkoff single to give the Bees the win. Alex Caldera gave up 10 hits but only 3 runs and RP Burke Baldwin pitched the 9th for his 1st win of the season.

Mitchell 5 IP, ER, 5 H, 2 K -- 3.86 ERA
Augustine 6 IP, H, BB, 7 K -- W, 2-0, 1.86 ERA

*** Joe Augustine pitched great in relief of Matt Mitchell as he 1-hit the Rattlers over 6 innings and David Lough had the big hit in the 11th to propel Burlington to its 4th straight win. Mike Moustakas' 3 walks included 2 intentional passes and Johnny Giavotella had another good game at the plate to move over the .300 mark.

The Bees are 8-4 and in a 3-way tie for first. A 4-game set at the Kane County Cougars (4-8, A A's) started tonight as Danny Gutierrez (1-1, 2.53) started for the Bees.

Novakowski 3 IP, 5 R (3 ER), 7 H, HRA -- 6.14 ERA

*** All 3 Chukar pitchers got blitzed and 6 errors behind them didn't help much, either. The Raptors tore off 8 runs in a 4-inning time frame and Ogden piled on 5 more in the 9th to put it away. Nick Francis had 3 hits, including 2 doubles, in the losing effort.

Chukars 11, Ogden 5 (Mon.)

Thompson 2 IP, 3 H, 2 K -- W, 1-0, 0.00 ERA
Foster IP, BB, K -- 3.00 ERA

*** The game started with a bang and the Chukars ended up with more firepower by rolling past the Raptors. Starter Paul Raglione hit the first batter of the game -- SS Devaris Gordon -- with a pitch and a brawl erupted that resulted in the ejection of 4 IF players and 6 Raptor players and coaches. J.D. Alfaro continued his fine play with a 2-hit, 3 RBI game and the same could be said for Nick Francis, who was 2-4 with 2 RBI to move over .350.

IF is 5-9 and 5 games back. A 3-game set at the Orem Owlz (10-4, Rookie Halos) started tonight. Aneidy Toribio started for IF.

Farinas 2 IP, 3 ER, 4 H, 2 BB, 4 K, HRA -- 6.23 ERA

*** The Royals got absolutely drilled by the Twins as a 7-run 3rd helped make the opener of a doubleheader a laugher. Burlington only had 2 hits in the loss and Giancarlo De La Cruz got slapped around for 8 earned runs in less than 3 innings of work.

Elizabethton 11, B-Royals 1 (2-hitter, 7/G2 Mon.)

DH Vittek 1-3 -- .182

*** The baseball lesson continued in game 2 of the twinbill as the Royals got 2-hit, again, and Elizabethton churned out 11 runs, including 8 in the 4th.

The B-Royals moved to 1-12 and got drilled by the Twins again today to continue a dismal, dismal season. Carson Bryant took the loss today.

Hentges 1/3 IP, ER, 4 H -- 4.50 ERA

The Royals took a 2-0 lead into the 8th before Carlos Fortuna gave up a run to spoil the shutout in the bottom of the inning. Luis Del Rosario was again the offensive leader with 2 hits, a double and RBI for the Royals.
