Royals on the Farm 7/6 and 7/7

AAA - Omaha: Memphis 8, O-Royals 7 (Sun.)

1B Shealy 4-5, 2B (10), 2 RBI (33) -- .283, starting to heat up
C B. Pena 2-5, RBI (9) -- .324
DH Buchanan 2-4, 2B (6), K, RS -- .283
3B Dawkins 2-4, 2B (5), 3B, RBI (14), K, RS -- .265
SS Sanchez 1-3, S, HR, 3 RBI (5), RS -- .226
CF Maier 0-2, 3 BB, 2 RS, SB (9), OF assist at second -- .309
RF Costa 0-4, HBP, K -- .301

Wright 6 IP, 4 ER, 7 H, 4 BB, 4 K, HRA -- 6.06 ERA
Fulchino IP, K -- 4.53 ERA
Musser 1/3 IP, 2 ER, 2 H, BB, HRA -- 4.01 ERA
Salmon 1 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 3 H, 2 BB, 2 WP -- BS, 2, L, 5-4, 4.82 ERA

*** I'm gonna condense these a little bit in the interest of time, as I don't wanna spend all night getting caught up. The Royals used a 4-run 5th to take a 6-4 lead, built it to 7-4 and then watched the bullpen blow it in the 8th and 9th with 2 Memphis runs in each inning. As you can see, Ryan Shealy had the big game for Omaha with an RBI double in the 1st and an RBI single in the 5th. Angel Sanchez cracked a 2-run homer in the 5th inning rally for his 1st of the season for Omaha. Neal Musser served up a 2-run homer in the 8th before getting pulled with tightness in his arm (reportedly minor) and then Brad Salmon fell apart in the 9th to get his 2nd blown save and the loss.

Nashville 4, O-Royals 2 (6/Mon. (rain))

LF Lubanski 1-2, RBI (33) -- .245
1B Shealy 1-3, 2B (11) -- .284
SS Sanchez 1-3, 2B (3), RS -- .235
CF Maier 0-2, HBP -- .306
RF Costa 0-2, SF, RBI (42) -- .299
C B. Pena 0-3 -- .310

Colon 5 IP, 4 ER, 8 H, 4 BB, 2 K, HRA -- L, 2-3, 4.88 ERA, not sure what the organization is doing in using Roman as a starter
Nunez IP, H, K -- 0.00 ERA, rehab outing #1

*** Omaha was rallying when the game was washed out early and the Sounds got the win in the series opener. No big offensive studs for Omaha in the game, and Roman Colon had a rough start on the mound for the Royals. The Sounds built a 4-0 lead before Omaha scored 2 in the 5th on a Chris Lubanski RBI single and Shane Costa sac fly. The Royals had 2 in scoring position with 2 out in the 6th when the rain got too hard to ignore and the game was called.

The Royals and Sounds split a twinbill today as Carlos Rosa got the win in the opener and Tyler Lumsden took the loss in game 2. The Royals are 43-48 and 12 games out.

AA - NW Arkansas: Naturals 4, Corpus Christi 2 (Sun.)

RF Falu 2-4, 2B (4), RBI (19), RS, OF assist at home -- .260
3B Richardson 2-4, 2B (18), K, RS -- .283
2B Maddox 1-4, HR (2), RBI (18), K, RS -- .282
C Donachie 1-3, 2B (6), RBI (18), K -- .207
DH Aldridge 0-4, RBI, K -- .100
CF Duarte 1-4, CS (5), OF assist at second -- .253
1B Kaaihue 0-1, 2 BB, HBP, RS -- .295

Cortes 5 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 4 BB, 4 K -- W, 4-3, 3.64 ERA, not the best start but a W all the same
Nicoll 4 IP, H, 2 K -- SV, 1, 2.13 ERA

*** Chris Nicoll pitched well in relief of Dan Cortes and the Naturals took the opener with the Hooks. The Naturals pushed across 3 runs in the 5th and Marc Maddox smacked his 2nd homer of the season in the 6th. Nicoll retired 11 of 13 he faced to notch his 1st AA save.

Naturals 9, Corpus Christi 2 (Mon.)

C Donachie 4-4, RBI (19), RS, PB (2) -- .227, nice 20-point jump in BA
LF Aldridge 2-4, HR, 3 RBI (4), 2 RS -- .214
3B Lucas 3-4, RBI (9), RS -- .276
DH Richardson 2-4, 2B (19), RBI (37), 2 RS -- .286
1B Kaaihue 1-4, SF, 2B (8), RBI (52), 2 K -- .294
CF Duarte 1-3, 2 BB, RS -- .254
2B Maddox 1-4, HBP, RBI (19), RS, CS (8) -- .281
SS Lisson 0-4, BB, RBI (38), 2 K, RS -- .220

B. Wood 7 IP, ER, 6 H, 5 K -- W, 2-3, 5.45 ERA, Dr. Jekyll is back in the office for a start
Hamulack IP, K -- 0.00 ERA
Plummer IP, ER, H, K, HRA -- 4.93 ERA

*** Blake Wood had a good start and the Naturals cruised by Corpus Christi again. NWA did most of its damage in a 7-run 3rd as Marc Maddox took a bases loaded HBP and Mario Lisson followed with a walk to get the rally started. The Naturals poured on 5 more runs in the inning and Cory Aldridge added a 2-run homer in the 5th for his 1st of the season for NWA.

The Naturals won a 16-10 slugfest tonight to sweep the Hooks as Julio Pimentel got the win but obviously didn't exactly dominate. I'll save the recap for tomorrow but it's safe to say Kila Kaaihue had a big game. He's pushing for a trip to Omaha. The Naturals are 9-9 and 2.5 games back.

A-Adv. - Wilmington: Blue Rocks 3, Myrtle Beach 2 (Sun.)

DH Correll 2-4 -- .182
C Howell 0-3, BB, RBI (29), 2 K -- .259
CF D. Robinson 1-5, 3B (5) -- .241
SS McConnell 1-5, 2 K, 2 E (21) -- .283
RF Dickerson 0-5 -- .300
LF Strait 1-4, K, RS, OF assist at home -- .235
2B Mertins 1-3, BB, RS -- .306, hit streak keeps rolling
3B J. Johnson 1-4, E (7) -- .269
* The Rocks turned 4 DPs.

Cegarra 7 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 5 H, BB, 3 K, HRA -- 4.32 ERA, nice start
Hartsock IP, H -- W, 6-4, 4.22 ERA
Chambliss IP, H -- SV, 13, 3.32 ERA

*** The Rocks broke a long tie with a run in the top of the 9th to even the series with the Pelicans. Ed Cegarra had a good start but got a no decision. Wilmington tied it at 2 in the 4th and it stayed that way into the 9th when Anthony Seratelli hit a 1-out triple and scored on a wild pitch to make the difference. Tyler Chambliss induced a double play in the 9th to get his 13th save.

Myrtle Beach 5, Blue Rocks 2 (Mon.)

DH Strait 2-3, BB, HR (2), RBI (2), RS -- .300
1B Correll 0-4, RBI, K, E -- .133
RF Dickerson 2-4, 3B (10), RS, CS (14), E (2) -- .303
CF D. Robinson 0-4, 2 K -- .239
3B Mertins 1-4 -- .305, 16-game hit streak
SS J. Johnson 1-4 -- .269

Santiago 6 IP, 3 ER, 5 H, 2 BB, 2 K, HRA -- L, 7-5, 3.74 ERA
Haltiwanger IP, 2 UER, 2 H, 3 BB, K -- 3.38 ERA
Barrera IP, nothing -- 2.77 ERA

*** The Pelicans took the rubber game of the series as the Rocks didn't get any offense until the 7th. Mario Santiago gave the Pelicans a 3-0 lead going into the 7th when Cody Strait hit his 2nd homer as a Rock for a solo shot to cut it to 3-1. Three Rocks errors in the 7th led to 2 unearned runs off Russ Haltiwanger and Joe Dickerson tripled and scored on a Brad Correll groundout in the 9th but that was it.

The Rocks are 7-11 and 4 games back. They had today off to travel back for a homestand.

Raglione 1 1/3 IP, nothing -- 9.00 ERA

*** Danny Gutierrez handed a 4-hit shutout to the pen in the 6th and saw Burke Baldwin allow 3 straight 2-run innings as Clinton clinched the series. Kyle Martin's 5th homer of the season in the 2nd gave the Bees a 1-0 lead that held into the 6th when Baldwin came in. He served up 2-run homers in both the 6th and 7th to give the LumberKings the lead and then gave up a 2-run single before getting pulled in the 8th. The Bees' other run scored in the 6th when Jamar Walton scored on an error. The Bees stranded 2 in the 9th.

*** The Bees trounced the LumberKings to snatch the series finale. The carnage started in the 3rd with the Bees taking a 1-0 lead, which became 3-0 in the 4th, which became 9-0 in the 5th, which became 13-0 after 6 and 15-0 after 7. In the meantime Eduardo Paulino was holding Clinton silent to the tune of only 3 hits and a walk.

The Bees are 10-9 and 2.5 games out. They had today off to hit the road for a roadtrip.

Novakowski 3 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 4 K, WP -- 4.38 ERA
Thompson IP, 2 R (1 ER), 2 H, BB -- 1.04 ERA

*** Orem took the early lead and didn't look back en route to the win for the sweep of IF. Orem took an early 2-0 lead then used 6 runs in the 4th and 5th to blow it open to an 8-1 lead. The Chukars got 4 runs in the 6th to seem to get back in the game but the Chukars didn't have another hit after the inning ended and Orem tacked on 2 runs in the 9th. Several Chukars got in on the act but none had more than 1 RBI in the loss.

off day (Mon.)

The Chukars started a 4-game set at the Helena Brewers (10-11) tonight and won the opener as Jesse Carver got the win in relief. IF is 7-14 and 8 games back.

*** The B-Royals rallied back to tie the game when play was suspended Saturday but a 2-run Cardinal 7th did in the Royals when play resumed. Johnson City scored in 4 2-run rallies. It was 4-1 in the 5th when the Royals scored 3 runs on a Yeldrys Molina RBI triple, Hilton Richardson RBI double and Julio Aparicio RBI single to tie it. Play resumed in the 5th Sunday and RP Jacob Rodriguez was nicked for 2 runs in the 7th. Starter Sam Runion made his B-Royal debut and allowed runs in each of the first 3 innings. Cards starter Randy Santos gave a 1-hit shutout to the pen in the 5th but Allen Caldwell ended that by scoring on an error in the 5th. The Royals stranded 1 in both the 6th and 7th.

The Royals went down in order in the 9th.

The Royals got back on track by beating the Giants today as Deybi De La Cruz pitched very well again. The Royals are 8-6 and 2 games back.
