*** Omaha managed only 3 hits in the loss to the Express in the first of 2 Sunday. The Royals left the bases full in the 2nd and loaded the bases again with 1 out in the 3rd but got only 1 run out of it on a Gookie Dawkins RBI forceout. They then left the bases full again. A Jason Smith error and Matt Tupman passed ball helped the Express to 2 runs in the 4th to give them the lead. Omaha stranded 2 in the 5th but the big play came on a Smith double in the 7th as pinch runner Damon Hollins tried to score from first but was thrown out at the plate. That was the Royals' final hit. RP Ray King threw 2 scoreless innings for the win to move to 2-1 and RP Jim Brower picked up his 6th save. Starter Ron Chiavacci allowed an ER over 3 IP. RF Reggie Abercrombie was 2-3 with an RBI and K for the Express, and also had the big OF assist at the plate to nail Hollins.

*** Omaha tied the game twice but Round Rock took the lead three times to sweep the double dip. Matt Wright gave up a 2-run homer in the 1st and another run in the 3rd to stake the Express to a 3-0 lead. Omaha tied it in the 3rd as Brayan Pena hit an RBI double and Gookie Dawkins smacked a 2-run homer for his 6th of the season for Omaha. Omaha stranded 2 in scoring position in the 4th and Round Rock moved back ahead on a sac fly in the 5th. The Royals stranded 2 more in the 5th but tied it in the 6th on a Pena RBI single. Wright served up a solo homer to CF Yordany Ramirez in the top of the 7th and that was that as the O-Royals went down in order in their half. Nick Regilio pitched 1 1/3 hitless innings for the win to move to 4-4. Starter Josh Muecke allowed 3 ER over 4 IP. Three guys had 2-hit games for Round Rock, including C J.R. House, who was 2-3 with a double, his 11th homer and 3 RBI.

Omaha is 47-55 after winning a tight 1-0 decision today in the finale with the Express. Jose Capellan pitched 8 scoreless for the win.

*** A 3-run 8th made the difference as the Cardinals continued to own NWA this series. The game was scoreless into the 6th as the teams took turns stranding runners. The Naturals loaded the bases with 1 out in the 6th and Ovandy Suero broke the stalemate with a 2-out RBI single before the bases were left loaded. Rowdy Hardy gave up a solo homer in the 6th to tie it and Tim Hamulack gave up a homer to the first batter he faced in the 8th, plus 2 more runs in the inning on 2 hits. NWA stranded 1 in the 9th as Fernando Salas got his 17th save for the Cards. RP Kyle Mura got the win with 4 IP of 1 ER to improve to 3-1. Chris Carpenter got a rehab start and allowed a hit and 4 walks with 4 Ks over 4 IP. 3B Allen Craig was 3-3 with a walk, double, his 18th homer and an RBI with 2 RS, and SS Tyler Greene was 2-4 with his 16th HR and an RBI. Craig also made his 10th error of the season.

NWA is 16-13 and a game back of the Cardinals, who go for the sweep tonight. Julio Pimentel (4-9, 5.52) will try to make it 2 great starts in a row versus an unnamed Springfield starter.

*** The Blue Rocks cranked out 9 runs over the last 4 innings to run away with the series opener. Brad Correll started his remarkable day with a 2-run homer in the 1st for his 3rd for the Rocks since getting signed away from the KC T-Bones. Matt Kniginyzky gave up a 2-run homer in the 4th to tie it but that was his only misstep, really, over 5 2/3. Jeff Bianchi broke the tie with an RBI double in the 6th and the Rocks piled on 4 runs in the 7th on a Correll grand slam for his 2nd homer of the game and 4th of the season. Two more runs in the 8th made it 9-2 Rocks as Jeff Howell hit an RBI double and Jarrod Dyson drove in a run on a groundout. A 2-run Anthony Seratelli double in the 9th finished off the scoring. Lynchburg starter Jared Hughes allowed 3 ER over 6 IP to take the loss and fall to 3-8. Topeka native RP Blair Johnson allowed 3 unearned runs in his lone inning of work. C Kris Watts was 2-4 with a double, his 4th homer and 2 RBI along with his 3rd passed ball.

Wilmington is 14-15 and 2.5 games back. The series continues tonight. Probable starters: Rocks southpaw Everett Teaford (5-3, 3.28) and Lynchburg hot prospect lefty Daniel Moskos (7-6, 6.15).

*** Dan Duffy and Juan Abreu combined to stymie the Whitecaps as the Bees evened up the series. Duffy retired the last 7 he faced and the only hit he allowed was a 2nd inning single. Clint Robinson led off the Bees 5th with a double and scored on a Jamar Walton groundout to make it 1-0 Bees. Abreu also pitched stingily and the Bees blew it open with 5 in the 8th on a 3-run homer by Adrian Ortiz for his 3rd of the season, a solo shot by Johnny Giavotella for his 2nd pro homer to make it back-to-back jacks and Kyle Martin RBI single. Abreu pitched a perfect 9th for his 5th save. Three 'Caps had a hit each and starter Jon Kibler took the loss with an ER over 6 IP to fall to 9-4.

The Bees are 16-14 and 4.5 games out. The series wraps tonight as Alex Caldera (7-6, 3.10) takes on Whitecaps starter Thad Weber (0-2, 3.71).

*** The Chukars outlasted the Osprey to beat Missoula again. The Chukars gave up a run-scoring error in the 1st but answered with 3 runs in the bottom of the inning on a J.D. Alfaro RBI single, Nick Francis sac fly and Sean McCauley RBI single. Tito Espinosa hit an RBI forceout and Fernando Garcia tripled in a run in the 4th to make it 5-1 IF. Stephen Gilgenbach faced 3 batters and allowed a run before getting pulled in the 5th after relieving starter Brandon Sisk. Orlando Rada finished the inning and the Chukars got the run back on a McCauley RBI single in the bottom half. Alfaro doubled home 2 runs in the 6th to make it 8-2 but Rada gave up 2 runs before getting pulled for Blaine Hardy in the 7th. Alfaro hit a solo homer in the 8th for his 3rd pro longball and McCauley hit his 3rd RBI single of the game to make it 10-4. Hardy allowed 2 runs on 2 doubles and a walk in the 9th but that was it. Missoula starter Randy Rodriguez took the loss with 6 ER over 5 IP to fall to 1-4. SS Reynaldo Navarro was 3-4 with a walk, 2 doubles, 4 RBI, a K and 2 RS and two others had 2-hit games for the Osprey.

Idaho Falls is 13-19 and 9 games out. The series goes to game 3 tonight and pits Ivor Hodgson (1-3, 4.00) versus Osprey SP Bayron Zepeda (0-0, 2.89).

*** Burlington led twice but never for more than a few batters in losing the opener to the Orioles. Allen Caldwell went solo in the 1st for his 2nd pro homer but Kelvin Herrera allowed a run on 3 hits in the 1st to tie it. The tie remained until the 5th until Sugar Ray Marimon came in with 2 on and 1 out and allowed a sac fly before getting out of the jam. Josh Vittek hit a 2-run homer in the 6th for his 3rd homer of the season and Burlington had a 3-2 lead. Marimon stumbled, tho, as the Orioles scored 2 runs in the 6th on 3 hits, a walk and 2 wild pitches. Williams Farinas allowed 2 runs in the 8th to finish off the scoring. RP Brian Sisk allowed 2 ER over 2 IP to blow his 3rd save but vulture the win to move to 2-1. Starter Kenny Moreland allowed an ER over 5 IP and RP Pat Kantakevich picked up his 2nd save. Four O's had 2-hit games.

The B-Royals are 9-23. The series continues tonight with no announced starters on the team site. The story on yesterday's game indicates Giancarlo De La Cruz will start for the Royals.

*** A 9-run 8th made a close game a laugher for the Royals. '08 28th round pick righty Greg Billo made his pro debut and gave up a 2-run homer before getting pulled in the 1st. The Royals loaded the bases with 2 out in their half of the inning and a run-scoring wild pitch and run-scoring Brewer error tied the game. Lifete Jose scored on a passed ball in the 4th to make it 3-2 Royals but Deybi De La Cruz allowed a run on 2 hits and a walk in the 6th to retie it. Jose tripled and scored on an Alex Llanos fielder's choice in the 7th and the 8th was huge as Jose Bonilla hit an RBI single, Jose cracked a 2-run double, Miguel Mariano doubled in Jose, Mariano scored on a passed ball, Yowill Espinal hit his 2nd homer of the season, Deivy Batista hit an RBI double and Bonilla came back up and cranked a 2-run homer for his 4th of the season to make it 13-3. RP Joel Morales took the loss with 3 1/3 IP of 6 ER allowed to fall to 1-2. Starter Damon Krestalude allowed 2 runs (1 ER) over 3 IP. C Shawn Zarraga was 2-3 with a double, his 2nd homer and 2 RBI with 2 RS but left the game in the 7th with a hand or wrist injury.

The Royals are 13-11 and 4 games out. They had today off.
