The Isotopes jumped on starter Billy Buckner and Omaha gave the pitcher no run support as the 'Topes took 3 of 4 in the set. The Isotopes stranded 2 in the 1st and scored twice with 2 outs in the 2nd on 4 hits and a Richie Lewis error to grab a 2-0 lead. Albuquerque scored again in the 3rd and added 2 runs in the 4th on a walk and 2 hits. The Royals stranded 2 in the 3rd and were being shut out on 5 hits by Isotopes SP Kenny Baugh entering the 8th. Angel Berroa spoiled the shutout in his first game back from the DL with a solo homer in the 8th for his 3rd of the season. The Royals left 2 in scoring position in the 9th. Isotopes RF Reggie Abercrombie was 2-4 with 3 RBI (28) to move to .312, DH Frank Moore was 3-4 with his 4th double to move to .360 and Baugh went the distance with an ER on 7 hits, a walk and 4 Ks to improve to 4-6 with a 6.72 ERA.

Wichita outhit the Cardinals, 10-6, but couldn't string together enough for a run in dropping the series opener. Adam Greenberg threw out a runner at the plate to end the 1st as SP Dusty Hughes dodged some early trouble. Hughes stranded the bases full in the 3rd and Mike Stodolka was thrown out at home to end the Wichita 4th as Springfield kept the game scoreless. The situation replayed itself in the 7th as Mike Gaffney was thrown out at home to end the top of the inning and the Wranglers stranded 2 in the 8th. Jarod Plummer took over for Jason Cromer with 2 on and 1 out in the 8th and allowed a game-breaking RBI single to 2B Casey Rowlett. Wichita stranded 2 in the 9th as Chris Perez picked up his 25th save for Springfield. C Bryan Anderson was 2-4 for the Cardinals to move to .318, P Kyle McClellan got the win with an IP of a hit, walk and 2 Ks to improve to 1-0 with a 0.00 ERA and SP Cory Rauschenberger allowed 9 hits and 2 walks with 3 Ks over 7 IP to drop his ERA to 5.03.

Rowdy Hardy finally got some run support with a big rally in the 7th and picked up his 12th win. Wilmington stranded 2 in the 1st and Hardy faced the minimum over 4 IP thanks to a pickoff and caught stealing. The Pelicans broke the stalemate in the 5th with a solo homer by 3B Eric Campbell. The Rocks stranded 2 in the 5th but finally broke the ice in a big way in the 7th with 7 runs on RBI singles by Chris McConnell and Marc Maddox, a 2-run single by Mario Lisson, a sac fly by Brian McFall and 2 more RBI singles by Miguel Vega and Kiel Thibault to make it 7-1. Lisson padded the lead with a sac fly in the 8th to make it 8-1 and Hardy didn't allow more than 1 base runner in any inning until the 9th, when the Pelicans rallied for 2 runs on 3 doubles before Hardy closed it out. Pelicans 1B Kala Kaaihue was 2-4 with his 19th double and 56th RBI to move to .294 and SP Deunte Heath took the loss with 6 1/3 IP of 5 ER on 7 hits, 3 walks and 4 Ks to drop to 1-1 with a 5.71 ERA.
Wilmington is 16-10 and 2 games up on first. The Rocks start a 3-game set at the Lynchburg Hillcats (13-12, A-Adv. Pirates) tonight. They are 6-3 versus the Hillcats. Probable starters: Rocks right-hander Michael Penn (1-1, 3.60) comes off the DL to face Hillcats righty Jose Diaz (no record yet).

Mario Santiago got touched up as the Bees snapped a 5-game win streak. The Bees stranded 2 in scoring position in the 1st and Matt Morizio was thrown out at the plate to end the top of the 2nd. Lansing got on the board in the 2nd on a walk and double off Santiago and added 4 runs in the 3rd on 4 hits and a walk to take a 5-0 lead. The Lugnuts added a run in the 5th and the Bees scored their only runs in the 7th on a 2-run Derrick Robinson single. The Lugnuts answered with 3 runs in their half off Josh Cribb thanks in part to a Jeff Bianchi error and Burlington didn't threaten again. Lugnuts LF Chris Emanuele was 2-4 with his 3rd triple, 4 RBI (32) and an OF assist at home to move to .258 and SP Graham Godfrey got the win with 6 2/3 IP of 2 ER on 8 hits, 2 walks and 6 Ks to move to 6-4 with a 4.37 ERA.
Burlington is 15-11 and 1 game back of first. The series wraps tonight. Probable starters: Bees LH Ryan DiPietro (5-5, 4.26) vs. Lugnuts RH Kyle Ginley (2-5, 5.36). Helena's pitchers bent a little but didn't break as the Chukars got trounced, 8-0. Idaho Falls stranded 2 in both the 2nd and 3rd and 3 hits and a Devery Van De Keere error helped Helena score twice that inning to make it 2-0. The Chukars stranded 2 more in the 4th and the Brewers struck for 5 runs that frame on 4 hits, 2 walks and an Anthony Seratelli error to make it 7-0. Pat Cassa allowed a run in the 8th and the Chukars stranded 2 more in the 9th. Brewers LF Mike Goetz was 3-4 with 2 RBI (13) to move to .375 and SP Donovan Hand went 6 IP of 5 hits, a walk and 3 Ks to improve to 2-2 with a 2.89 ERA.

The Royals couldn't recover from 3 early Braves runs. SP Henry Arias gave up a leadoff homer to 2B Cole Miles in the 1st and the Royals were down almost before the fans took their seats after the National Anthem. Three hits, a walk and sac fly pushed 2 more runs across and chased Arias in the 2nd as Danville took a 3-0 lead. Braves SP Cole Rohrbough 1-hit the Royals over 5 IP and the Royals didn't score until the 8th, when Kyle Martin hit a 2-run homer for his 4th of the season. Burlington stranded 1 in both the 8th and 9th to drop the game by a run. Miles was 1-4 for Danville with his 2nd homer, 2 RBI (18) and 2 E (6) to move to .371 and Rohrbough got the win with 5 IP of a hit and 11 Ks to improve to 2-2 with a 0.71 ERA. RP Nicholas Fellman notched his 6th save.
Burlington is 17-11 and 1 1/2 games back. The set concludes tonight and no starters have been posted on the team site.

Fourteenth rounder Matt Mitchell continued his fine pitching for the AZL Royals and combined with 2 other pitchers on a 4-hitter to take a game from the Cubs. The Royals stranded 1 off rehabbing Kerry Wood in the 1st (his only IP) and David Wood gave the Royals the lead with an RBI single in the 4th. Mitchell was perfect into the 5th and left a 2-hitter to the pen in the 7th. Wood hit a sac fly in the 9th to make it 2-0 and Eric Van Slyke came in with 1 on and 1 out in the 9th and induced a double play to end it. Cubs 1B Patrick Brooks was 2-3 to move to .289 and P Marcus Hatley took the loss with 4 IP of an ER on 2 hits with 2 Ks to drop to 1-1 with a 1.46 ERA.
The Royals are 11-13 and 6 games back. They played the 6-17 Brewers today.
