Royals on the Farm 7/3

AAA -- Omaha: Oklahoma 8, O-Royals 2

CF Maier 3-5, K -- .288
3B Wathan 1-3, SF, HR (1), 2 RBI (7), K, RS, E (1) -- .244
SS Berroa 2-4, BB, 2B (10), 2 K -- .276, I think that's 3 straight games with a walk?
RF McCarthy 2-3, BB, OF assist at third -- .242
1B Brazell 1-4 -- .324
2B Aviles 1-4 -- .308
LF Lubanski 0-4, K -- .176

Elarton 4 IP, 7 ER, 10 H, 4 K, 4 HRA -- L, 2-3, 5.86 ERA, early fireworks from RedHawk bats
Hoelscher 2 1/3 IP, ER, 4 H, BB, 3 K, E (1) -- 3.67 ERA
Markray 2 2/3 IP, 3 H, 2 K -- 4.13 ERA

Scott Elarton pitched more like the guy we've come to know as Royals fans as Oklahoma cranked out a huge 1st en route to the easy win. Elarton's 1st inning went single, 2-run homer, K, single, 2-run homer, single, 2-run homer (love those 2-run jacks), double (Bill McCarthy nails runner at third), single, K. Needless to say, I don't think he was fooling the RedHawks. Elarton gave up a solo homer in the 2nd for his 4th HR allowed in the game and Omaha got on the board in the bottom of the inning on a Derek Wathan sac fly. Wathan homered in the 6th for his 1st of the season to cut the lead to 7-2. Nate Hoelscher gave up back-to-back doubles in the 7th to score another RedHawks run and that was how the game finished at 8-2. Eight Oklahoma batters had 2-hit games led by RF Nelson Cruz, who was 2-5 with his 6th double, 10th HR and 2 RBI (24) to move to .345. RP Steven Rowe got the win with 4 IP of an ER on 4 hits and 3 Ks to improve to 4-2 with a 6.81 ERA.

Omaha is 40-46 and 11 1/2 games back. A 5-game set at the Round Rock Express (37-48, AAA Astros) starts tonight. Probable starters: Omaha LH Tyler Lumsden (5-5, 5.57) vs. Express LH Philip Barzilla (7-5, 4.62). The Royals are 3-5 versus Round Rock. RP Gabe DeHoyos has been sent back to Wichita after posting a 5.52 ERA in 9 appearances at AAA. He was demoted to make room for LH Sean Thompson, 24, whom the Royals picked up off waivers from the Padres recently. Thompson had a 3.57 ERA in 16 starts at AA San Antonio for the Pads.

AA -- Wichita: off day

The Wranglers start a 3-day, 4-game set at the Corpus Christi Hooks (5-6, AA 'Stros) tonight. The Wranglers are 4-4 versus the Hooks. Probable starters: Wichita righty Greg Atencio (3-4, 3.86) vs. CC lefty Josh Muecke (1-4, 4.98).

1B McCann 1-4, E (1) -- .281
SS McConnell 1-3, SB (2) -- .239
CF Duarte 0-4, K -- .287
2B Maddox 0-4, K -- .264

Hardy 5 2/3 IP, 5 ER, 8 H, 2 BB, 3 K, WP -- L, 10-2, 1.87 ERA, roughed up
Haltiwanger and D'Amico 2 1/3 hitless IP

Rowdy Hardy must not have had his usual stuff and Sung-Wei Tseng silenced the Blue Rocks' bats as Kinston took the series opener. Hardy stranded 2 in the 2nd but gave up an RBI single in the 3rd and another RBI single in the 5th to give Kinston a 2-0 lead. Wilmington had only 4 hits through 6 and the Tribe got to Hardy in the 6th for 3 runs on 3 singles and a wild pitch. Russ Haltiwanger finished the inning and the Rocks couldn't put together anything close to a rally. Kinston SS Josh Rodriguez was 2-3 with his 39th RBI to move to .235, 3B Wes Hodges was 2-4 with his 12th double to move to .333 and Tseng got the win with 6 IP of 4 hits and a K to improve to 3-6 with a 3.59 ERA. RP Michael Finocchi got his 3rd save.

Wilmington is 9-4 and 2 games up on first. Game 2 is ongoing. Starters: Blue Rocks righty Julio Pimentel (4-3, 2.67) and Kinston righty Steve Wright (0-0, 11.25). Both of Hardy's losses are to Kinston and the Tuesday beating cost him the league ERA lead to Salem's Brad James.

The Bees' bats didn't awake until it was too little, too late and Beloit got an easy win. Four hits scored 2 Beloit runs in the 1st off Harold Mozingo and the Bees left the bases full in the 2nd. Mozingo gave up a solo homer in the 5th to make it 3-0 and Henry Barrera gave up a run on 3 hits in the 6th to make it 4-0. The Bees had 3 hits through 6 innings and the Snappers scored 5 runs in the 7th on 4 hits, 2 walks and a Joe Dickerson error off Barrera and RP Jim Wladyka. Beloit RP Matt Williams came in for the 9th and Brady Everett and Jamar Walton hit back-to-back RBI doubles before Walton scored later on a passed ball. Jase Turner flew out to end the game. The Chukars blew a lead in the 7th as Ogden dealt IF its 4th loss. Ogden blew a chance off Burke Baldwin in the 1st as Raptors SS Jaime Pedroza was thrown out at home to end the inning trying to score on a wild pitch and was ejected after arguing the call. Alvi Morel hit an RBI single and Joe Billick added an RBI force out to make it 2-0 Chukars in the 2nd. O.D. Gonzalez hit an RBI double in the 3rd to make it 3-0 and Baldwin handed that lead to Zach Peterson in the 6th. Burlington opened up the firepower for a 14-0 lead by the 4th and coasted to the win over the Rays. Wilson Tucker got the Royals started with an RBI single in the 1st and Jake Lane drove in a run with a ground out before Antonio Jimenez singled home a run to make it 3-0. Tucker homered to lead off the 4th for his 4th of the season and the floodgates opened as the Royals would score 8 in the inning on a 3-run homer by Nick Doscher, a 3-run homer by Alwin Perez and an RBI triple by Jake Lane in his second plate appearance of the inning. As starter Joe Augustine held the Rays to 1 hit over 4 innings, the Royals piled on 3 more runs in the 4th on a Rays error that scored Neder Severino and a 2-run double by Tom Hill that made it 14-0. Anthony Bradley relieved Augustine to start the 6th and gave up an RBI triple but that was all the Rays would get on their 4 hits on the game.
