*** Omaha held off a late Zephyr surge to get a 3rd straight win. Huber led off the 2nd with a triple and came home later on a Bell sac fly to give Omaha a 1-0 lead. After Elder made it through the first 5 innings with no damage done, the Royals added 2 in the 5th on RBI singles by Robinson and Teahen for a 3-0 lead. RP Ryan Baerlocher gave up a solo homer in the 7th for the Zephyr's first run but Omaha answered with 2 in the 7th on a 2-run single by Phillips. The Royals tacked on a run in the 8th on a Bell RBI single to take a 6-1 lead into the 9th. RP Shane Loux got the first 2 outs of the inning without incident before giving up 4 straight singles and then a 2-run double to cut the lead to 6-4. He got Zephyrs RF Ryan Church to ground out to end it. Omaha is 22-31 and 7 games back of first. Former Royal and current Zephyr C Alberto Castillo was 2-4 with his 17th RBI to move to .296, DH Brandon Larson was 2-4 with his 8th homer and 27th RBI to move to .235, 1B Larry Broadway was 0-4 to drop to .337 and 3B Brendan Harris was 1-4 with his 7th error to drop to .324.
The series continues with a Thursday matinee. Pitchers: NO RH Anastacio Martinez (1-2, 5.23) vs. RH Kyle Snyder (0-3, 3.81).

*** Things weren't looking good for the Wranglers in game 1 as they were down, 5-0, in the 4th before coming back to win thanks mainly to a 6-run 4th. Cedeno gave up a 2-run homer in the 3rd and two RBI singles in the 4th to put Wichita down, 5-0, before Wrangler bats came alive in the 4th. 1B Adam Keim broke the ice with a 1-out RBI double followed 3 batters later by a Lubanski sac fly, then RBI singles by Sanchez and Murphy and capped by a 2-run double from Gordon for a 6-5 lead. Lubanski added a sac fly in the 5th to make the lead 2 runs and RPs Cody Smith and Ryan Braun finished the job. Wichita moved to 22-30 with the win. Hooks SP Matt Albers dropped only his 2nd loss of the year in allowing 7 ER over 4 1/3 IP to drop to 5-2 with a 2.93 ERA. Hooks SS Ben Zobrist was 1-3 with his 18th double to improve to .319, RF Hunter Pence was 1-4 with his 14th homer and 40th and 41st RBI to move to .298, 1B J.R. House was 1-3 to drop to .348 and 2B Jonathan Ash was 1-2 to move to .356.

*** A 55-minute rain delay was part of the Wranglers' nightcap sweep of the Hooks. Bass gave up a run in the 1st but Wichita answered in the bottom of the inning on a Gordon RBI single. Sanchez singled home a run in the 2nd to give Wichita the lead but Corpus Christi tied it on Pence's 15th homer in the 3rd off Markray. The score stayed tied at 2 into the 6th when Keim led off the bottom of the inning with a double. After Tupman sacrificed him to third, Lubanski drove the run home with a single. Hoelscher had a 1-2-3 7th to end the game. Wichita moved to 23-30 and 9 games back of first. Zobrist was 2-3 to move to .325, House was 1-3 with his 36th RBI to drop to .348, Pence was 1-3 with the homer and 42nd RBI to move to .298 and Ash was 0-2 to drop to .348.
The teams end the set tonight. No announced pitchers. P Devon Lowery, a starter at High Desert last season who saw some AA time, joined the team Wednesday.

*** Two late runs got the job done for High Desert. The Mavs scored their first run in the 3rd as Perez led off the inning with a triple and scored on a throwing error on the play. Cota balked the tying run home in the bottom of the inning but didn't give up anything else over 7 IP. Senreiso single-handedly put the Mavs back ahead in the 8th with his 8th homer of '06 and Brown hit an RBI ground out in the 9th to add some insurance. DeHoyos had little trouble picking up his 10th save in the 9th. The Mavs are 25-28 and 7 1/2 games back. Storm 3B Chase Headley was 0-4 to drop to .273 and 1B Tim Brown was 1-1 with 3 walks to move to .286.

*** The Bees got shaky but effective pitching as the Rattlers had only 4 hits and got the gift of 4 Wisconsin errors in the win. Rosa gave up a run in the 1st but the Bees came back with 2 that inning on a throwing error that allowed a run to score and then a Vega RBI single. The Rattlers tied it in the 3rd but Burlington regained the lead in the 5th with 2 runs on RBI singles by Vega and RF Jeremy Jirschele. McConnell hit an RBI force out in the 6th to extend the lead to 5-2 and the Bees scored a run on a balk in the 8th to make it 6-2. Schambough gave up a run in the 9th but closed it out for his 4th save. Burlington is 26-24 and 4 1/2 games back of first.
Rattlers 2B Luis Valbuena was 2-4 with his 17th RBI to move to .244 and 3B Ron Garth was 1-4 to drop to .273.
The Bees go for the sweep tonight. Pitchers: RH David Henninger (1-2, 4.07) vs. Rattlers RH Jason Snyder (2-4, 5.23).
