*** Bautista and Baerlocher got shelled in the 4th and Omaha never got back in the game. Bautista was unsteady through the first 2 innings but came out without any damage until Memphis scratched out a run in the 3rd. The Redbirds started the 4th with 4 straight hits and 2 runs off Bautista to bring Baerlocher in and, 6 runs later, the inning ended. Baerlocher committed a fielding error to make one of the runs unearned. DH Alejandro Prieto hit an RBI ground out to get Omaha its first run in the 5th and Clapinski and Phillips went back-to-back to lead off the 6th and Aviles singled home a run later that inning to cut the lead to 9-4. The Royals threatened again in the 7th but couldn't get a run across. Omaha is 26-42. Memphis 2B Derek Wathan was 1-4 to drop to .295, DH Skip Schumaker was 2-5 to move to .287 and RF Brian Martin was 3-5 to move to .258. Three other Redbirds had a multiple-hit game.
The teams continue the set Saturday night. Pitchers: RH Seth Etherton (0-1, 13.50) vs. Memphis RH Dennis Tankersley (2-7, 4.36). In other news, Kerry Robinson got called back to KC and Shane Costa was demoted to Omaha.

*** The Wranglers blew two leads and a late tie in the loss to Arkansas. Herndon gave up a solo homer in teh 2nd but Wichita tied the game in the 3rd on a sac fly by Angel Sanchez and took the lead in the 4th on an RBI double by 1B Kila Kaaihue. The lead grew with 2 in the 5th on a Gordon RBI single and RBI double by DH Dee Brown for a 4-1 advantage. A bases-loaded double helped the Travs make their deficit go away off Herndon in the 5th and the score was tied at 4. Tupman singled home a run in the 7th to give the lead back to Wichita but Herndon was left in a little too long, perhaps, and gave up a 2-run homer to flip the lead to Arkansas. Butler singled home Gordon in the 9th to tie the game before Braun walked the bases loaded to start the bottom of the 9th and then gave up a walkoff single to Travs LF Aaron Peel to end the game. Wichita is 33-35. Peel was 2-5 with his 6th homer and 3 RBI to move to .252, SS Brandon Wood was 1-4 to drop to .288 and 2B Eric Rodland was 2-3 to move to .299.
The teams were set to knock heads again Saturday night. No announced starters.

*** The Mavs shrugged off a 2-0 deficit to win their 7th straight. The Quakes scored once in both the 2nd and 3rd off Gragg before the Mavericks cut the lead in half in the 4th on a Stodolka sac fly. High Desert moved ahead in the 5th as McFall doubled home the first run of the inning, 3B Ed Lucas hit an RBI ground out and Falu drove McFall home with a sac fly to give HD a 4-2 lead. Perez led off the 8th with a triple and later scored on a force attempt by CF Juan Senreiso. McFall also doubled home 2 runs in the inning to give the Mavs the 7-2 final advantage. High Desert is 37-31 and a 1/2 game back of first with 2 games left in the half. RC SS Sean Rodriguez was 1-3 with his 13th homer and 39th RBI to move to .298, 3B Freddy Sandoval was 1-4 to drop to .303 and C Michael Collins was 1-3 to move to .300.
The teams continue the set tonight. Billy Buckner was set to pitch for the Mavs.

*** Gilbert de la Vara couldn't get the final out as the Bees blew a 2-run 9th inning lead. Henninger gave up a homer to the LumberKings' leadoff batter but Jirschele singled home a run in the 2nd to tie the game. Thibault doubled home a run in the 3rd to put the Bees ahead before Johnson tripled home a run and Lisson hit an RBI single in the 4th to make the score 4-1 Bees. Clinton cut the lead to 1 with 2 runs off Henninger and Damico in the 5th. With 2 out and 2 on in the 8th, Johnson drew a walk to load the bases and Lisson was hit by a pitch to bring an insurance run across for a 5-3 lead. de la Vara sandwiched an out between doubles to start the bottom of the 9th but he got the second out before giving up a single to put runners at first and second. Clinton SS Matt Smith came through in the clutch with a triple into the right field corner to score the tying and winning runs. Burlington is 33-32. Smith was 3-5 with 3 RBI to improve to .260, RF John Mayberry Jr. was 0-3 with his 27th RBI to drop to .226 and 2B Jose Vallejo was 2-4 with his 1st homer of the season and 3 RS to move to .252.
Game 3 of the set was Saturday evening. Chris Nicoll got the start.
