Royals on the Farm 5/10 -- Odorizzi dominates

Anyone? Science teachers? anyway...
Keating IP, K -- SV, 4, 4.50 ERA

* Both teams had 8 hits but the Nats made theirs count for more as Will Smith and two relievers ended up one pitch away from a shutout. The Naturals rallied with 2 outs in the 1st as Tim Smith hit an RBI single to make it 1-0. Anthony Seratelli hit an RBI groundout in the 2nd to make it 2-0 and Tulsa's only damage was a leadoff homer off Will Smith in the 3rd. Tulsa threatened in the 5th but Wil Myers stepped up with an assist at second to keep them off the board. Kelvin Herrera came in to strand 2 in the 7th and Myers singled in a run to make it 3-1 NWA in the bottom of the inning. Patrick Keating pitched a 1-2-3 9th for his 4th save. C Lars Davis had 2 hits for Tulsa, including his 1st homer of the season. NWA is 14-14 and 3 games back of the Drillers. They have Wednesday off.

* Jake Odorizzi faced 22 batters Tuesday and struck out 13 as the Rocks took down the best team (record-wise) in the Carolina League. Odorizzi struck out the first 5 Sox and the Rocks stranded 2 in the 2nd. John Whittleman hit a 2-run triple in the 3rd and Whit Merrifield singled, stole second and scored on a Carlo Testa single in the 5th to make it 3-0 Rocks. Odorizzi put the first 2 on in the 6th, then struck out the next 3 Salem batters. Wilmington left the bases full in the 6th and Brendan Lafferty took over in the 7th and left two Red Sox in scoring position. Kevin Chapman gave up a leadoff homer in the 9th but sat the next 3 down for his 6th save. DH Reynaldo Rodriguez was 1-3 with his 5th homer and 23rd RBI for Salem. He's hitting .340. The Rocks are 17-13. Game 2 is Wednesday as Noel Arguelles and Mike Mariot piggyback the start.

* The Cougars blew the dust off their bats and posted 8 runs in the win over the Snappers. Two Beloit errors helped in the 1st as Brian Fletcher ripped a 2-run double to make it 2-0 KC. Sugar Ray Marimon stranded 2 in the 2nd and Murray Watts blasted his 1st homer of the season in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-0. Marimon allowed a solo homer in the 3rd. Fletcher singled in a run in the 3rd and Lane Adams singled in another run to make it 5-0 KC. Fletcher kept his strong play going with another RBI single in the 4th and Alex Llanos singled in 2 runs in the 5th to make it 8-1. Mitch Hodge took over in the 6th and gave up a solo homer and 4 walks to cut the lead to 8-3. A Jon Keck error helped the Snappers tighten it to 8-4 in the 7th. Chase Boruff stranded 2 in the 8th but had a quiet 9th. DH Daniel Ortiz had 3 hits, including his 7th homer, and 22nd RBI. Kane County is 10-23. Game 2 is Wednesday. Leondy Perez (0-4, 3.03) is set to take the hill.
