* I hit the hay at 5-0 Reno last night and I guess I didn't miss much. Omaha left 2 on in the 1st and Reno trumped that by leaving 'em loaded off Blake Johnson. The Chasers stranded 2 in the 3rd and Reno finally got to Johnson in the 3rd as they scored 2 runs on 3 hits. Greg Holland entered with 2 on and 0 out in the 4th and allowed 2 runs that got credited to Johnson to make it 4-0 Aces. Reno scratched out another run in the 5th. Omaha stranded 2 more in the 7th and Mike Moustakas finally broke up the shutout with his 6th homer, a solo shot, in the 8th. The Chasers had runners at the corners and 1 out but Kila Ka'aihue got picked off first and Lorenzo Cain struck out to kill the rally. The Chasers went down in order in the 9th. Reno SP Kevin Mulvey pitched 6 2/3 shutout innings to improve to 2-2 with an 8.92 ERA. CF Collin Cowgill and C Konrad Schmidt had 2 hits for the Aces. Both are hitting over .300. Omaha is 18-14. Game 2 is tonight as Jeff Suppan (2-4, 5.29) starts. Reno is up, 2-0, going into the 5th...

Mariot 3 1/3 IP, ER, 4 H, BB, K -- SV, 2, 1.37 ERA

* Batman and Robin were at it again for the Rocks as Noel Arguelles and Mike Mariot teamed up to propel the Rocks to another win over the Red Sox. Arguelles worked around 2 hits in the 1st and would only allow 2 more hits and a walk over 5 2/3. The other 2 hits came in the 3rd as Salem plated a run to make it 1-0. After two 1-out singles in the 3rd, Adrian Ortiz hit an RBI double and Carlo Testa hit an RBI groundout to turn the lead around. With 2 out and 1 on in the 4th, Juan Graterol doubled in another run to make it 3-1 Rocks. Mariot pitched around a double in the 7th and, after the Rocks stranded 2 that inning, Mariot allowed a run in the 8th to see it dwindle to 3-2. Salem got the tying run to third in the 9th but Mariot squeaked by to lock in his 2nd save. Three Sox had 2 hits. Wilmington is 18-13. The Rocks go for the sweeeeeeeep on Thursday as Elisaul Pimentel (2-0, 4.61) is the scheduled starter.

Mitchell 3 IP, ER, 3 H, 2 BB, K -- SV, 1, 3.63 ERA

* The Cougars broke out the bats for a second straight game as good offense plus good pitching from Leondy Perez equaled a Kane County victory. Perez left 2 in scoring position in the 2nd and most of KC's damage came that inning as Geulin Beltre singled in a run, an error scored a run, Yowill Espinal cranked a 3-run homer for his 1st of the season, and Gerard Hall tripled home a run to make it 6-0 Cougars. Alex Llanos added a 2-run homer in the 4th for his 5th of the season to make it 8-0. Perez gave up a homer in the 6th to spoil the shutout. Matt Mitchell stumbled in the 7th to allow another run but regrouped to work around walks in the 8th and 9th. RF Lance Ray and C Tobias Streich had 2 hits for Beloit. 1B Michael Gonzales hit his 6th homer for his 19th RBI. Kane County is 11-23. They'll try for a sweep on Thursday as Robert Penny (0-2, 3.60) starts.
