* Seven runs in the 8th and 9th turned a close game into a blowout Wednesday. Johnny Giavotella and Eric Hosmer hit RBI singles in the 3rd to get Omaha rolling and Lucas May hit a 2-run single in the 4th, tho baserunning gaffes in both innings cut the rallies short. Mike Montgomery benefitted from 4 DPs behind him thru 5 and Montgomery was pulled after allowing a leadoff single in the 7th. Greg Holland came in and allowed 3 runs before the dust settled with Omaha still up, 4-3. Gregor Blanco and Lance Zawadzki hit back-to-back RBI doubles in the 8th with David Lough doing the trick 2 batters later. Giavotella added a 2-run single before Omaha left the bases full. Zawadzki doubled in another run in the 9th and Lough singled him home to make it 11-3 Chasers. Kanekoa Texeira allowed a solo homer in the 9th that meant little. RF Jamie Hoffman had 2 hits, including his 4th homer, and 2 OF assists. Omaha is 16-10. The series wraps up Thursday with Vin Mazzaro (1-0, 4.66) starting.

AA - NW Arkansas: Springfield 2, Naturals 1

RF Myers 3-4, K -- .283
1B Seratelli 1-3, HR (3), RBI (6), RS -- .283
SS Colon 1-3, BB, CS (3) -- .225
DH S. Perez 0-2, BB -- .262
2B Bianchi 0-4, K -- .244

Lamb 6 IP, ER, 2 H, 3 BB, 3 K -- L, 0-2, 3.22 ERA, hard luck
Paulino IP, ER, 3 H, 2 BB -- 4.50 ERA
Sisk 2 IP, H, K, pickoff -- 4.35 ERA

* A late Naturals comeback was not to be Wednesday. A lineout double play ruined a 2-on, 1-out situation for NWA in the 1st and both teams were quiet until Springfield scratched out a run off John Lamb in the 4th. The Nats caught a runner trying to steal home to end the Cards 5th but Springfield got an insurance run in the 7th. The main problem was the Nats were being shut out on 1 hit by Cards SP Deryk Hooker. Anthony Seratelli greeted RP Nick Greenwood with a solo homer in the 8th for his 3rd of the season to cut the lead to 2-1. The Nats kept the pressure on in the 9th as Christian Colon and Wil Myers started the inning with singles, but Jeff Bianchi struck out on a foul bunt, Colon was caught stealing third (bad call on whoever sent him) and Tim Smith struck out swinging to end the game. Hooker allowed 2 hits and 2 walks with 4 K over 7 IP to improve to 1-3 with a 6.66 ERA. 2B Jose Garcia had 3 hits and DH Jermaine Curtis had 2 hits for Springfield. NW Arkansas is 11-11 and 3 games back of Tulsa. Game 3 is Thursday as Will Smith (1-2, 6.48) starts.

Paukovits IP, ER, 3 H -- 3.86 ERA
Herrera 2 IP, H, K -- 0.71 ERA

* Jake Odorizzi was on his game and so was the Blue Rock offense as they chugged past the Hillcats in the series finale. Odorizzi actually had a shaky 1st as the first 2 Cats reached and a Deivy Batista error scored a run before Odorizzi got out of the jam. Alex McClure tied it in the 2nd with an RBI triple. The Rocks rallied for 4 in the 3rd on a 2-run Nick Francis single and RBI singles by John Whittleman and Jose Bonilla. Rey Navarro singled in a run and an error scored another run in the 4th as Wilmington made it 7-1. Odorizzi gave up a run in the 5th but handed a 7-2 lead to the pen in the 7th. Bryan Paukovits allowed a run in the 7th but Whit Merrifield cut the rally short with an assist at third to end the inning. Kelvin Herrera finished it with 2 quiet innings. CF Todd Cunningham was 4-4 with 2 RBI (8) for Lynchburg and 2 others had 2 hits. Wilmington is 16-9. A 4-game set at the Frederick Keys (12-13, A-Adv. Orioles) starts Thursday. Noel Arguelles and Mike Mariot are set to piggyback the opener.

A - Kane County: Quad Cities 4, Cougars 1

CF Llanos 2-4, K, CS (5) -- .284
DH Adams 1-3, HR, RBI (4), K, RS -- .173
SS Hall 0-3, BB, K, E (7) -- .321
LF Fletcher 0-4, 2 K, OF assist at home -- .330
3B Stovall 0-3, K -- .333

L. Santiago 7 IP, 4 R (2 ER), 5 H, 2 BB, 3 K -- L, 2-3, 3.63 ERA
Keck 2 IP, 3 H -- 0.63 ERA

* The Cougar offense sputtered again as QC took the series opener. Kane County's only run came on a solo homer by Lane Adams (his 1st) in the 2nd. Quad Cities took the lead with 2 in the 3rd as Gerard Hall committed a 2-out error to make both runs unearned. The Bandits added a run in the 4th. Quad Cities pitchers retired 15 straight after Adams' longball. The Bandits made it 4-1 off Leonel Santiago in the 6th. Kane County got a couple late hits but couldn't push a run home. C Juan Castillo had 2 hits for the Bandits. The Cougars are 8-19 and in the cellar of the MWL West, as they are on a 1-11 slide. Game 2 is Thursday evening. Sugar Ray Marimon (1-2, 4.18) is the scheduled starter.
