* The game wasn't as close as the score looks as the Isotopes scored 5 late runs. The Royals stranded the bases full in the 1st but scored in the 2nd on a Marc Maddox solo homer for his 1st of the season. A wild pitch and Albuquerque error made it 2-0 in the 3rd but the 'Topes got a run back that inning off Bryan Bullington. Rick Ankiel smacked a 2-run homer in the 4th off knuckleballer Charlie Haeger and Irving Falu and Ankiel had RBI singles in the 5th as Kila Ka'aihue added a bases-loaded walk. Omaha left the bases full again, but had a 7-1 lead. Bullington gave up a 2-run single in the 5th to cut it to 7-3 but Maddox and Cody Clark hit RBI singles in the 8th and Falu ripped a 2-run double to blow it out to 11-3. Federico Castaneda gave up 2 runs in the 8th and Chris Hayes allowed 3 runs in the 9th that were all unearned as Maddox made an error in the inning. Haeger allowed 6 runs (5 ER) over 4 2/3 IP to fall to 0-1. RF Prentice Redman and 2B Chin-lung Hu had 2 hits as Redman cranked his 9th homer. Dodgers OF prospect Xavier Paul drove in 3 runs (20) but was 1-5 to drop to .350. Omaha is 34-29 and 1 1/2 games out. Luis Mendoza is set to start game 3 Wednesday.

AA - NW Arkansas: Naturals 4, Tulsa 2 (7/G1)

2B Giavotella 2-3, BB, CS (4) -- .277
DH Smith 1-3, 2 RBI (21), SB (5) -- .304
RF Van Stratten 1-3, RBI (20), K, RS, OF assist at third -- .269
3B Moustakas 1-3, K, RS -- .339
CF D. Robinson 1-4, K -- .296
1B C. Robinson 0-2, BB, RS -- .274

Montgomery 3 2/3 IP, ER, 2 H, BB, 3 K -- 2.79 ERA, 56 pitches
Sisk 3 1/3 IP, ER, 4 H, K, HRA -- W, 3-2, 2.27 ERA

* The Nats made a comeback rally in the 6th to take the first of 2 with the Drillers Tuesday. A run-scoring error got NWA its first run in the 3rd but Mike Montgomery gave up a game-tying double before getting pulled in the 4th. The Naturals rallied with 2 out in the 6th as Nick Van Stratten hit the game-breaking single and Tim Smith hit a 2-run single to make it 4-1. Brandon Sisk gave up a leadoff homer in the bottom of the 6th but Van Stratten made a key assist to third in the inning and Sisk got it finished. Starter Bruce Billings took the loss for Tulsa with 4 ER over 5 2/3 IP to fall to 5-4. RF Scott Beerer was the only Driller with 2 hits. NWA is 38-24.

Tulsa 5, Naturals 4 (8/G2)

1B C. Robinson 3-4, HR (9), 2 RBI (43), K, 2 RS -- .282
RF Orlando 2-4, SB (13) -- .304
3B Moustakas 1-4, HR (15), RBI (55), K, RS, E (11) -- .337
CF D. Robinson 0-4 -- .291
2B Giavotella 1-4, 3B (3), K, RS -- .276
LF Smith 0-2, K -- .299

Paulino 4 2/3 IP, 2 ER, 4 H, 4 BB, 7 K -- 4.13 ERA
Keating 2 IP, ER, H, 2 BB, 2 K -- 5.06 ERA
Swaggerty IP, 2 ER, 2 H, 2 BB, K -- L, 2-3, 4.24 ERA

* The Naturals blew a 3-0 lead to lose in "extras" in 8. Clint Robinson hit a 2-out, 2-run homer in the 1st for his 9th of the season to spot the Nats a 2-0 lead. A double play ball scored a run in the 4th and NWA had a 3-0 lead for Eduardo Paulino. Paulino allowed single runs in the 4th and 5th as Patrick Keating stranded 2 in the 5th with a 1-run lead. Keating had the Drillers down to their last out with a man on first in the 7th when a steal and clutch single by DH Charles Blackmon tied the game. Mike Moustakas put on his cape as potential hero by slamming his 15th homer of the season in the 8th but Ben Swaggerty couldn't finish it. Moustakas made an error in the 8th but Swaggerty still had Tulsa down to its last out before a single tied it and he walked Blackmon with the bases loaded to force in the winning run. RP Andy Graham allowed an ER in an IP to improve to 3-2. Rocks pitching prospect Greg Reynolds allowed 2 ER in 2 IP in a rehab start. Blackmon and LF Bronson Sardinha had 2 hits for Tulsa as Blackmon walked twice and drove in 3 runs (8). The Naturals are 38-25 and still closing in on that first-half title. As noted in the header, nine Naturals have been named to the TL North all-star team. The obvious ones are Mike Moustakas and maybe Clint Robinson, who will be starters along with OFs Derrick Robinson and Paulo Orlando and 2B Johnny Giavotella. OF Tim Smith will be a reserve and Ps Edgar Osuna, Mike Montgomery and Mario Santiago will be on the pitching staff. Montgomery has already been subbed out as the organization is treating his arm gingerly at this point. Still, that's a third of the 24 North all-stars wearing Nats colors there. Wild.

LF Ortiz 3-5, 2B (9), RBI (14), 2 RS, SB (19) -- .291
1B Hosmer 0-4, BB, K -- .351

* Salem ripped the Rocks to open the series. Jamie Romak singled home a run in the 1st to get the Rocks started on the right foot. Ivor Hodgson did pretty well until giving up a run in the 4th and, after the Rocks left the bases full in the 5th, Hodgson got hammered for 5 runs in the 5th as Salem streaked ahead, 6-1. Starling De La Rosa gave up 3 more runs to make it worse in the 6th. Henry Barrera made his 2010 debut and joined the carnage in a small way with an ER in his 1st IP. Romak doubled in a run in the 8th to reawaken the Rocks O and they scored 4 in the 9th on an Adrian Ortiz RBI single, 2-run Nick Francis double and Romak RBI groundout. Salem SP Stolmy Pimentel allowed an ER over 5 IP to improve to 5-4. Five Sox had multiple hits led by 3 hits from 2B Oscar Tejeda and 1B Jorge Padron. Wilmington is 29-35. Alex Caldera starts game 2 Wednesday.

A - Burlington: Bees 2, Peoria 0 (4-hitter)

2B Hall 2-4, 2 2B (16), RS -- .227
C Myers 2-4, K, RS -- .297
1B Lewis 1-3, BB, RBI (35), E (8) -- .278
LF Del Rosario 0-3 -- .273

Marimon 6 IP, 3 H, BB, 3 K -- W, 1-0, 0.00 ERA, like lightning from the blue of his career
Odenbach IP, K -- 5.29 ERA
Encarnacion IP, H -- 4.15 ERA
Dennick IP, 2 K -- SV, 2, 5.33 ERA

* The Bees finally got a pitching performance that could hold up their paltry offensive effort to snap a 7-game skid. Wil Myers led off the 4th with a single, advanced on a wild pitch and scored on another wild pitch and throwing error to get the Bees on the board. Sugar Ray Marimon, meanwhile, had one of the best starts of his career and got picked up by 3 scoreless innings from his bullpen. Joey Lewis hit an RBI single in the 8th to add a drop of gravy to the lead that Ryan Dennick finished in the 9th. Peoria SP Nick Struck took the loss with an ER over 5 IP to fall to 2-7. The Bees are 21-44.
