* Albuquerque battered Luis Mendoza and 2 Omaha relievers Wednesday. Mendoza allowed a run in the 1st but Kila Ka'aihue doubled and scored on a Jordan Parraz groundout in the 2nd to tie it. The Isotopes scored a run in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th to make it 6-1. Cody Clark hit a sac fly in the 5th before Alex Gordon singled in a run and Scott Thorman hit an RBI groundout to cut it to 6-4. Mendoza took more damage with a 2-run homer in the 5th but Irving Falu hit a 2-run single in the 6th to keep the deficit at 2. That's as close as it got as Blaine Hardy gave up 3 in the 7th and Greg Holland gave up 3 in the 8th. Albuquerque SP Tim Corcoran allowed 6 runs (5 ER) over 6 2/3 IP to improve to 5-6. Four Isotopes had 3 hits led by 3B Russ Mitchell's 2 HR (7) and 4 RBI (42). Omaha is 34-30. As Luke Hochevar hit the DL with an elbow sprain, Anthony Lerew got a shot at The Show and will start for KC Thursday. Gaby Hernandez starts the finale for Omaha Thursday. The Royals released lefty John Parrish.

* A 5-run rally off Aaron Crow led the Drillers to the win over NWA to stave off a step closer to the first-half title. Derrick Robinson tripled in a run in the 3rd and Tulsa answered back largely with a 2-out, 5-run rally on 3 hits, a walk, 2 wild pitches and a Nats error. The Drillers added a run in the 4th before Tim Smith added NWA's other run on a solo homer in the 5th for his 5th of the season. Rowdy Hardy gave up 2 runs in the 6th and Mother Nature called it after the inning. Tulsa SP Keith Weiser allowed 2 ER over 6 IP to improve to 5-4. CF Charles Blackmon had 3 hits while 2 others had 2 hits. RF Ryan Harvey drove in 3 runs (30). NWA is 38-26. A 4-game home set with Springfield (33-30, AA Cards) starts Thursday so the Nats can wrap up the title with a good series.

* Salem continued to dominate the Rocks with an 8th straight win over Wilmington. Alex Caldera had his worst start in a while as the Red Sox scored 3 in the 1st thanks in part to a Nick Francis throwing error. The Rocks got 2 runs back in the 3rd on an Adrian Ortiz RBI triple and Francis sac fly. The Sox rattled off 6 straight runs from there as Caldera allowed a run in the 3rd and 2 in the 5th. Brendan Lafferty allowed 3 in the 7th to make it 9-2. Eric Hosmer and Jamie Romak went back to back longballs (Hosmer's 3rd, a 2-run shot, and Romak's 5th) in the 7th to cut the lead to 4 and Ortiz had an RBI single in the 9th but that was as close as the Rocks would get. RP Michael Lee allowed an ER in 4 IP to improve to 5-3 for Salem. Starter Miguel Gonzalez allowed 2 ER in 4 IP. 1B Jorge Padron was 4-4 with 2 RBI (8), DH Ryan Lavarnaway had 3 hits (including his 14th HR) and 3B Will Middlebrooks had 2 hits. The Rocks are 29-36. John Lamb starts the series finale Thursday.

* The good times lasted 1 game for Burlington as Peoria resumed the Bees' losing ways. Nick Wooley started and gave up 5 runs in the 2nd for all the Chiefs would need. Mitch Hodge gave up a run in the 5th and J.D. Alfaro broke up the shutout with an RBI groundout in the 6th. Peoria scored 2 in the 7th off Onassis Sirrett and 2 in the 8th off Scott Kelley to make it 10-1. Gerard Hall hit an RBI single in the 8th but Sam Runion got lit up for 2 runs in the 9th. The Bees tacked on 5 runs in the 9th on a Rene Oriental 3-run homer (his 3rd), a run-scoring error and a Hall sac fly to make it close but not close enough. Peoria SP Kenneth "Trey" McNutt moved to 6-0 with 5 IP of a hit, walk and 10 Ks. Six Chiefs had multiple hits. The Bees are 21-45. They have Thursday off.
