Royals on the Farm 7/22 -- Slugfest for the Nats

So Bert Callaspo is gone. Not a bad trade for KC. O'Sullivan I can take or leave, but Will Smith pitched well in both the Pioneer and Midwest Leagues and has hit all the minor levels already. Doesn't appear quite ready for AA/AAA competition yet, but he has some potential.

* Louis Coleman and Greg Holland stepped up when Phil Humber got ejected in the 2nd to lead the Royals to the win. Omaha struck in the 1st with a run-scoring wild pitch and Ed Lucas RBI single but the Royals missed a chance to score more runs in the frame. Humber gave up a solo homer to start the 2nd but after a walk was ejected by the home plate umpire. Cody Clark led off the 5th with his 3rd homer of the season to make it 3-1 Royals. Josh Rupe loaded the bases in the 9th but escaped the jam for his 5th save. Memphis SP Oneli Perez took the loss with 4 1/3 IP of 3 ER allowed to fall to 2-4. 1B Mark Hamilton and DH Joe Mather had 2 hits each. Omaha is 52-46. * The Naturals scored 15 runs in the last 3 innings to roll past the Travelers. Arkansas battered Edgar Osuna for 3 runs in the 1st and NWA started slowly as the first run came in the 3rd on a Clint Robinson RBI single. The Travs answered with 2 in the 4th on a 2-run homer but NWA scored 3 in the 5th on a Clint Robinson sac fly and 2-run Jamie Romak single. Rowdy Hardy allowed a run in the 5th to make it 6-4 Arkansas but when the Travs bullpen came into play in the 7th, the Nats went to work. They scored 6 in the 7th on a Johnny Giavotella solo homer (his 2nd), a 2-run Paulo Orlando double, a Romak RBI double, a Tim Smith sac fly and Jeff Howell sac fly. They padded the lead with 3 in the 8th on a run-scoring wild pitch and 2-run Anthony Seratelli single, then scored 6 more in the 9th for good measure on a Giavotella RBI single, run-scoring error, Orlando RBI single, Seratelli RBI double and Smith 2-run single. The late rallies made 6 late Arkansas runs meaningless as Ben Swaggerty finished it off. RP Robert Fish didn't record an out and allowed 4 ER to pick up his 3rd blown save and the loss to drop to 2-5. Starter Trevor Reckling allowed 4 ER over 6 IP. 2B Alexi Amarista and LF Jeremy Moore had 4 hits while 5 others had multi-hit games. NWA is 18-7.
