* Omaha's weapon of choice was the sac fly as both runs came via that mode and the pitching staff held the Zephyrs at bay after the 2nd inning. Omaha left the bases full in the 2nd and Luis Mendoza gave up a 2-out RBI double in the bottom of the inning. Mendoza wriggled out of a bases-loaded jam in the 3rd and Jai Miller led off the Omaha 5th with a double before scoring on an Irving Falu sac fly to tie the game. Both teams missed chances in the middle innings. The Royals loaded the bases with 1 out in the 10th and Kila Ka'aihue came through with the big sac fly to push the lead run across. Josh Rupe got out of a jam in the 10th for his 2nd save. RP Adalberto Mendez took the loss with an ER over 1 IP to fall to 3-2. Former Royals farmhand SS Gookie Dawkins had 3 hits, including 2 doubles, and NO's only RBI. DH Danny Richar had 2 hits for the Zephyrs. Starter Sean West allowed an ER over 7 IP. Omaha is 45-39. A 4-day, 5-game home set with the Albuquerque Isotopes (43-40, AAA Dodgers) starts Thursday.

AA - NWA: off day

* A 3-game set at the San Antonio Missions (5-6, AA Padres) starts Thursday. Aaron Crow starts the opener.

* The Rocks pieced together runs in each of the last 3 innings to overcome the Hillcats. The Rocks left a runner at third in the 1st and did it again in the 3rd. Bryan Paukovits pitched well as he scattered 4 hits over the first 6 innings. Wil Myers led off the 7th with a single, advanced to third on a groundout and Lynchburg error, and then scored on a Rey Navarro sac fly to make it 1-0. Paukovits gave up a 2-out RBI double in the 7th and an Eric Hosmer error scored the go-ahead run for the 'Cats. Jarrod Dyson tied it with an RBI double in the 8th but got caught stealing third to squander a chance at the go-ahead run. Nick Francis provided that with a leadoff homer in the 9th for his 3rd of the season, and Eric Basurto stranded 1 in the 9th to lock in the win. RP Donnie Joseph allowed an ER over 1 1/3 IP to fall to 0-2. SP Lance Janke allowed an unearned run over 7 IP. RF Kyle Day had 2 hits for the Hillcats. The Rocks are 9-5. Buddy Baumann and Jairo Cuevas will piggyback Thursday's game 2.

A - Burlington: Bees 4, Cedar Rapids 4 (suspended/8)

* The Kernels tied it with 2 runs in the 8th before rain suspended the game. I assume it'll be finished before Thursday's game.

* The Chukars climbed out of a 5-run hole to force extras. Casper scored 5 runs in the 4th on 2 walks and 4 hits, including a 2-run triple. IF charged back with 4 in the 6th on a Yowill Espinal RBI single, a Geulin Beltre RBI groundout and 2-run Murray Watts double. The Chukars tied it on an error in the 8th but left the bases full in a chance to win it in the 9th. To be continued... by the way, Devon Lowery got moved up to Wilmington.

* Danville made a 6th inning run the difference in the series opener. Burlington took early command with 2 runs in the 2nd on an Adrian Martinez RBI double and Derek Rodriguez RBI triple. Crawford Simmons was victimized for back-to-back jacks in the 4th as the Braves took a 3-2 lead. Ryan Stovall tied it with an RBI forceout in the 5th but the Braves turned a leadoff double into the go-ahead run off Simmons in the 6th. The Royals had 1 base runner in the last 3 innings. RP Ryan Weber allowed an unearned run over 5 IP to improve to 2-0. Starter Ronan Pacheco allowed 2 unearned runs over 4 IP. Four Braves had 2 hits led by RF Daniel Falcon, who hit his 3rd homer with 3 RBI (9). The Royals are 9-8. OF Reggie Taylor was moved to Idaho Falls while OF Anthony Howard was moved to Burlington.
