Matt Tupman provided the go-ahead hit in the 9th as Omaha scored 4 in the final frame to take the opener. Craig Brazell led off the 2nd with his 27th homer and starter Ben Hendrickson lost a perfect game and the lead in the 4th on a walk, hit batsman and RBI single. The Royals stranded 2 in the 6th and the game went to the 9th tied at 1 as Memphis SP Mike Smith bent but didn't break. Mike Aviles led off the 9th with a double and Smith was pulled for Chris Perez with 1 on and 1 out. Tupman stepped up with 2 on and 2 out and hit a clutch 2-run double to break the tie. Chris Lubanski followed with his 2nd AAA homer to make it 5-1 Omaha and Neal Musser stranded 1 in the 9th for his 4th win. Memphis 2B Jarrett Hoffpauir was 1-4 with his 17th RBI to move to .330 and Smith took the loss with 8 1/3 IP of 2 ER on 3 hits, a walk and 2 Ks to drop to 10-11 with a 4.74 ERA.

Omaha is 60-60. Game 2 is tonight. Probable starters: Omaha RH Luke Hochevar (1-2, 7.18) vs. Memphis LH Randy Keisler (8-8, 4.38). Ryan Shealy was finally optioned to Omaha Friday, so will rejoin the O-Royals soon.

Starter Dan Christensen handed a shutout to the pen and it didn't last but Wichita was able to pull out the win in 11. Christensen ran into trouble in the 1st but Jorge Padilla bailed him out by nailing a runner at the plate to end the inning. The Wranglers moved ahead with 2 runs in the 3rd on a Geraldo Valentin RBI ground out and a Padilla RBI single. Christensen stranded 2 in the 4th and the score remained 2-0 when Juan Cedeno took over in the 8th. Cedeno got an out before giving up a single, walk and 2-run double and then getting ejected. Gilbert de la Vara came in and gave up a 2-out single but Padilla came up big on the play and nailed another runner at the plate to end the threat. The Wranglers stranded 2 in the 9th and Onil Joseph came through with the big hit in the 11th to drive in Valentino Arce to make it 3-2 Wichita. de la Vara stranded 1 in the 11th to lock down his 3rd win. Midland CF Richie Robnett was 2-5 with his 36th double and 2 RBI (68) to move to .277 and RP Jerry Blevins took the loss with an IP of an ER on 2 hits, a walk and K to drop to 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA.

Wichita is 18-28 and 7 games back. A 3-game set at the Frisco RoughRiders (26-20, AA Rangers) starts tonight. The Wranglers are 1-5 versus Frisco. Probable starters: rehabbing Wranglers righty John Thomson vs. Frisco RH Armando Galarraga (9-6, 4.07).

Brandon Duckworth had far from a smooth rehab outing as the Keys had a big 2nd and coasted to the win. Both teams were scoreless in the 4th and Duckworth's 2nd went walk, RBI double, fly out, run scoring Mario Lisson error, double, K, walk, RBI double, pulled. A Michael Penn wild pitch added a 4th run in the inning before he got out of the jam. The Rocks left 2 in scoring position in the 3rd, Penn stranded 2 in the 4th and the game went to the bottom of the 6th at 4-0. Brian McFall hit a 2-out RBI single in the 6th but was thrown out trying to stretch his hit to second base to end the rally. Penn and Justin Barnes combined to allow a run in the 7th and the last 4 Rocks K'd to end the game in the 8th and 9th. Keys CF Kennard Jones was 3-5 with his 20th double and 42nd RBI to move to .260 and also nailed McFall at second to end the 6th. Keys SP Brad Bergesen got the win with 7 2/3 IP of an ER on 8 hits, a walk and 3 Ks to improve to 2-4 with a 6.00 ERA.

Wilmington is 29-17 and 6 games up on first. Game 2 of the set is tonight. Probable starters: Rocks right-hander Julio Pimentel (9-4, 2.76) vs. Frederick prospect righty Chorye Spoone (8-7, 3.29), who shut the Rocks down the last time he faced them.

The Bees turned only 4 hits into 5 runs with the aid of 7 walks as they took the series, 3-1. Bees starter Mario Santiago stranded 2 in the 2nd and the Bees loaded the bases with 3 walks to start their half of the 2nd. Jase Turner hit into a would-be force out but an error on the play helped an additional run score to make it 2-0. Jesus Soto hit a sac fly and another error scored a 4th run in the inning for the Bees. Santiago served up a 2-run homer to Wizards RF Robert Perry in the 3rd and only a Joe Dickerson outfield assist at third ended the rally. Santiago gave up a leadoff homer in the 4th to cut it to 4-3 but stranded 2 in scoring position. The Bees got the run back in the 5th on a 2-out RBI single by Jamar Walton. The bullpen pitched well for Burlington and Chris Hayes hurled a perfect 9th for his 10th save. Perry was 1-4 for Fort Wayne with his 1st homer and 2 RBI (4) to move to .200 and SP Steve Delabar took the loss with 1 2/3 IP of 4 runs (2 ER) on 6 walks and a K to drop to 2-5 with a 6.36 ERA.

Burlington is 23-23 and 5 games back. A 4-game home set with the Dayton Dragons (24-23, A Reds) starts tonight. The Bees are 1-3 versus the Dragons. No announced Bees starter on the team site.

The Chukars rebounded to even the series with the Mustangs Friday. Clint Robinson hit a 2-out RBI single in the 1st but the Chukars stranded 2. The Mustangs got off to a hot start against Chukars SP Chris Chavez as a passed ball, triple and double quickly made it 2-1 Billings. Chavez loaded the bases with none out in the 3rd but got out of the jam. Two errors in the 5th helped the Chukars retake the lead as Ryan Eigsti and Alvi Morel both scored on Billings miscues. Robinson cranked his 11th homer in the 6th to make it 4-2 Chukars and Adrian Ortiz threw out a runner at the plate to end the 6th and maintain the lead. RP Matt Jensen stranded 2 Mustangs in the 7th and the Chukars padded the lead with 2 runs in the 8th on a 2-out, 2-run single by Eigsti to make it 6-2. IF left the bases full in the 9th and 2 errors and a passed ball helped Billings rally in the 9th for 2 unearned runs before Pat Cassa stranded 1. Billings SS Todd Frazier was 4-5 with his 2nd SB, 3rd double and 15th RBI to move to .314 and SP Luis Montano took the loss with 5 1/3 IP of 3 runs (1 ER) on 4 hits, 3 BB and 6 Ks to drop to 7-3 with a 2.60 ERA.

IF is 8-3 and 2 games up on first. The series continues tonight. Probable starters: IF's Zach Peterson (4-2, 3.62) vs. Billings' Enerio Del Rosario (3-2, 4.50).
