Royals on the Farm 8/9

AAA -- Omaha: off day

The O-Royals start a 4-game set at the Memphis Redbirds (, AAA Cardinals) tonight. Probable starters: Omaha RH Ben Hendrickson (10-5, 5.03) vs. Memphis RH Mike Smith (10-10, 4.90). 1B Ryan Shealy was recalled to KC but remains on the DL while being re-evaluated by a team physician. Also, the rehab assignment of RP Roman Colon was transferred to the AZL team.

Wichita had a 4-2 lead in the 8th and watched it evaporate as Midland got the comeback win to move to 8-0 on the Wranglers. Jorge Padilla was thrown out at the plate to end the top of the 1st and the Wranglers stranded 2 in the 4th before breaking the scoreless tie with a 3-run 5th on an Adam Greenberg RBI single, a RockHound error that scored a run and a Padilla sac fly. Wichita left 2 in scoring position in the 6th and Midland got 2 runs back off SP Carlos Rosa in the bottom of the 6th on a walk, 2 hits and a Kila Kaaihue error that made both runs unearned. Padilla doubled home a run in the 7th to make it 4-2 and Tim Bausher was brought in with 2 on and 1 out in the 8th only to give up 1 run before getting out of the jam. Bausher got the first 2 outs in the 9th but then gave up a walk, game-tying double and walk before LF Luke Appert hit a walkoff single. Midland CF Richie Robnett was 4-4 with his 5th error, 35th double and 66th RBI to move to .276 and RP Travis Foley got the win with 2 perfect IP including 2 Ks to improve to 4-0 with a 3.65 ERA.

Wichita is 17-28 and 8 games back. The series concludes tonight. Probable starters: Wichita lefty Dan Christensen (3-12, 6.04) vs. Midland lefty Bobby Cramer (3-0, 0.43, 0.81 WHIP in 21 IP (7 games, 2 starts)).

A-Adv. -- Wilmington: rainout

The game with Winston-Salem was cancelled and won't be made up as the teams don't play each other again. The Rocks start a 3-game home set versus the Frederick Keys (19-25, A-Adv. O's) tonight. The Rocks are 9-8 versus the Keys. Probable starters: Rocks right-hander Brandon Duckworth vs. Keys righty Brad Bergesen (1-4, 7.66). Duckworth will move his rehab to Omaha after Friday's game.

The Bees took the first of 2 with the Wizards Thursday as Jason Godin hurled a gem. Godin scattered 3 hits over his 6 IP and the Bees ran into outs on the basepaths in the 1st, 2nd and 4th, including stranding 2 in the 4th. Godin stranded 2 in the 5th and the Bees stranded 2 more in the 6th. Jamar Walton reached on an error to start the bottom of the 7th, moved to third on a throwing error on a pickoff attempt and scored on a 1-out Jesus Soto single to end the game. Wizards RP Allen Harrington took the loss with 1 1/3 IP of an UER on 2 hits and 2 walks to drop to 0-1 with an 0.84 ERA. Pads prospect SP Drew Miller pitched 5 scoreless innings of 3 hits, 2 walks and 2 Ks to drop his ERA to 3.89.

Ryan DiPietro ran into some problems in "extras" in the 8th and the Bees had to settle for a split of the doubleheader. Things got rocky from the get-go in the 1st as SP Ed Cegarra gave up 3 Wizard runs on 3 hits, a walk and passed ball. Luckily, Wizards SP Brandon Gomes also ran into some trouble as the Bees scored 2 in their half of the 1st on a Brady Everett RBI single and a wild pitch that scored Jamar Walton. Walton tied the game in the 5th with a sac fly as Cegarra settled down. Former #1 overall pick Matt Bush, who the Pads were trying to convert into a pitcher this season, left the game with arm trouble in the 6th after inducing a ground out and the Bees stranded 2 in the inning off P Aaron Breit. It was Bush's first appearance at A-ball as a pitcher and he lasted 8 pitches. Ouch. DiPietro pitched a perfect 7th but gave up a leadoff homer to CF Cedric Hunter in the 8th and 3 more runs on 2 hits, a sac fly and wild pitch. The Bees went down in order in the bottom of the 8th to end it. Hunter was 2-3 for the Wizards with his 5th homer, 2 RBI (47), 7th SB and 2 RS to move to .285 and Breit got the win with 1 2/3 IP of 2 hits and 3 Ks to improve to 3-10 with a 7.89 ERA.

The Bees are 22-23 and 6 games back. The series wraps up tonight. No announced starters on the team site. The Bees turned a total of 8 DPs in the twinbill.

Idaho Falls got the game tied in the 6th but Billings rattled off the last 5 runs of the game to get the victory. Rubi Koko led off the 3rd with a double and scored on a Mike Bionde single to give the Chukars a 1-0 lead but the Mustangs scored 3 in the bottom of the frame on 3 hits (including a 2-run homer) and 2 walks off Ben Norton. O.D. Gonzalez hit a sac fly in the 4th to cut the lead to 1 and the Chukars stranded 2 in the 5th. Clint Robinson doubled and scored on an Anthony Seratelli sac fly in the 6th to tie it at 3. The tie lasted 2 batters into the Billings 6th as Justin Phillips gave up a leadoff walk and then an RBI double before allowing another run to score on 2 errors. Two hits and a wild pitch scored another Mustang run in the 7th and Billings finished the scoring with 2 in the 8th off 2 walks, a hit and wild pitch by Jason Roach. IF stranded 1 in the 9th. Billings SS Todd Frazier was 2-4 with his 4th homer, 2 RBI (14) and 2 RS to move to .289 and RP Curtis Partch got the win with 4 IP of 2 walks and 4 Ks to improve to 1-0 with a 1.15 ERA.

Idaho Falls is 7-3 and 2 games up on first. The series continues tonight with the Chukars' Chris Chavez (2-2, 2.92) going against Billings' Luis Montano (7-2, 2.70).

The Royals lost a 2-0 lead but then got the lead back and held on to win. Burlington took a 2-0 lead in the 3rd on a 2-run double by Jake Lane. SP Jose Diaz gave up a run on a double and balk in the 4th and the Royals stranded 2 in scoring position in the 4th. Diaz gave way to Bobby Hastry with 2 on and 2 out in the 5th and Hastry gave up a 3-run homer to the first batter he faced (pinch-hitter Mark Thomas) to make it 4-2 Rays. Hastry allowed another run on 2 hits in the 6th and Princeton's lead was 5-2. The Royals rallied back in the bottom of the 6th with 4 runs on a Yeldrys Molina RBI single, an Alwin Perez RBI ground out, a Wilson Tucker RBI single and Lane RBI double that made it 6-5 Burlington. Juan Graterol singled in a run and Molina notched another RBI single to make it 8-5 in the 7th but Ryan Belanger gave up 2 runs in the 8th to cut it back to 8-7. Jose Santos singled in an insurance run to make it 9-7 in the Royals 8th and Ryan Woods pitched a perfect 9th for his 7th save. Thomas was 1-3 with his 1st HR and 3 RBI (8) to move to .196 and RP Kyle Ayers got the loss with 1 2/3 IP of 4 ER on 5 hits, a walk and 2 Ks to fall to 3-2 with a 5.00 ERA.

Burlington is 27-21 and 8 games back. They have today off.

Pitchers Dan Duffy and Mike Lehmann combined for a sparkling 3-hit shutout of the Brewers. The Royals stranded 2 in the 1st and they broke the ice in the 3rd with 2 runs on a passed ball that scored Hilton Richardson and a Diego Cruz RBI single. The Royals added 2 runs in the 6th on a 2-out, 2-run single by Sean McCauley to make it 4-0 and added 3 runs in the 7th on a Fernando Cruz sac fly and a 2-run single by Ryan Angel. Lehmann retired 8 in a row to end it to notch his 1st save. Brewers 3B Joe Paciorek was 2-3 with his 4th SB to move to .273 and SP Joel Morales took the loss with 3 IP of 2 runs (1 ER) on 3 hits, 3 walks and 3 Ks to fall to 0-5 with a 8.22 ERA.

The Royals are 9-3 and 2 1/2 games up on first. They have today off.
