A good game got dramatic in the 9th before Chris Lubanski came through in the 11th with his biggest hit as an O-Royal thus far. Starter Luke Hochevar stranded 2 in the 2nd and used a pickoff to work out of a jam in the 3rd before Craig Brazell started the scoring in the 5th with his 29th homer for Omaha. Unfortunately, Hochevar, who had been solid after the 3rd, gave up a single and 2-run homer to start the 6th and give Iowa a 2-1 lead. Roberto Giron stranded 2 in the 8th and Derek Wathan was nailed at home in the Omaha 8th as the 2-1 lead held into the bottom of the 9th. Mike Aviles hit a 1-out double in the 9th and scored on a Justin Huber single but Omaha stranded 2 as the game went to extra innings. Neal Musser gave up a triple (thanks to an ill-advised diving attempt from Huber) and sac fly in the 10th to once again put Omaha's backs against the wall but the Royals loaded the bases with 1 out and Fernando Cortez scored on an Aviles ground out to keep the game alive. The Royals stranded 2 again and Nate Hoelscher gave up 2 2-out hits for another run as Iowa took a 4-3 lead into the bottom of the 11th. Cubs RP Neal Cotts came in with 1 on and 0 out and gave up a 1-out walk before Lubanski cranked a 3-run walkoff homer to right for his 3rd at Omaha. Three Cubs pitchers blew saves in the game. Iowa LF Sam Fuld was 1-5 with his 1st homer and first 2 AAA RBI of the season to move to .265 and Cotts took the loss with 1/3 IP of 2 ER on a hit and walk to drop to 0-2 with a 6.16 ERA.
