Omaha staged a big comeback to tie the game in the 5th but couldn't get over the hump as the Sidewinders took a 2-0 series lead. Omaha starter Tyler Lumsden stranded 2 in the 1st but got snakebit for 5 runs in the 2nd on 6 hits, a walk and a Ryan Shealy error. Lumsden stranded 2 in scoring position in the 3rd and Thad Markray had pitched 2 scoreless frames going into the Omaha 5th. The Royals tied it that inning on a 5-run rally of RBI singles by Shane Costa, Mike Aviles and Mitch Maier, a bases-loaded walk by Craig Brazell and a Shealy sac fly. Omaha left the bases loaded, however, and Markray gave up a run on 2 doubles in the 7th to make it 6-5 Tucson. Omaha loaded the bases with 1 out in the 7th but Fernando Cortez grounded into a double play to end the threat. Brandon Medders pitched the 9th for Tucson to pick up his 2nd save. Sidewinders SS Alberto Callaspo was 3-4 with his 11th double and 25th RBI to move to .339 and RP Mike Schultz got the win with 1 1/3 IP of a walk and K to improve to 3-3 with a 3.79 ERA.

Omaha is 58-59. Game 3 of the set is tonight. Probable starters: Tucson's "Mr. Jennie Finch," RH Casey Daigle (9-2, 5.79) vs. Omaha RH Matt Wright (7-3, 3.93). Cortez had been on the DL with headaches since being DFA'd in July.

The Wranglers blew a 3-0 lead as the Travs inched their way back into the game and then won it in the 9th. Wichita left a runner at third in the 3rd but took the lead with a 3-run 4th on a Jeff Nettles 2-run double and a Damaso Espino RBI single. Starter D.J. Mattox took a no-hitter into the 5th after stranding 2 in the 4th. The Travs scored on a single and walk in the 5th, got a solo homer in the 6th after Wichita stranded 2 in the top of the inning, and then tied it in the 7th on 2 hits off RP Tim Bausher. Wichita left a baserunner at third in both the 7th and 8th. With 2 on and 2 out in the bottom of the 9th, RP Jarod Plummer gave up a walkoff double to Travs 2B Adam Morrissey to end it. Morrissey was 2-4 with 2 doubles (23) and 2 RBI (44) for Arkansas to move to .276 while RP Darren O'Day got the win with an IP of perfect relief to move to 2-2 with a 3.32 ERA.

Wichita is 17-26 and 7 games back. They have today off before starting a 6-game road trip.

The Blue Rocks capitalized on a Warthog error to finally get to SP Clayton Richard and win the series opener. Wilmington rehab starter Brandon Duckworth had little problem in his outing before hitting his pitch limit in the 3rd and handing the ball to Julio Pimentel. The game was scoreless into the 6th when Winston-Salem got to Pimentel for 2 runs on 2 hits, 3 walks (1 a free pass) and a wild pitch. Wilmington had 2 out and none on against Richard in the 6th when an error kept the inning alive and a walk and RBI singles from Brad McCann and Brian McFall tied the game. Pimentel stranded 2 in the 7th and the Blue Rocks took the lead in the bottom of the inning on a Chris McConnell RBI fielder's choice and a Jose Duarte RBI single. Wilmington stranded 2 in the 8th and RP Arthur Santos stranded 2 Warthogs in the 9th to get his 7th save. Warthogs 2B Robert Hudson was 1-5 with his 2nd triple and 14th RBI to move to .287 and Richard took the loss with 6 IP of 4 runs (2 ER) on 6 hits, a walk and 3 Ks to drop to 7-9 with a 3.65 ERA.

Wilmington is 27-16 and 5 games up on first. The series continues tonight. Probable starters: Rocks righty Blake Johnson (5-6, 3.92) vs. Winston-Salem righty Derek Rodriguez (10-3, 3.91). Brian McFall was named the league's Topps Player of the Month for July with a .309 BA, 6 HR and 26 RBIs in the month. He is the first Rock to be named as such since August 2003.

Burlington came back from a 3-0 deficit to win the shortened game in extras in 8. Starter Dan Gutierrez gave up 2 singles and then a 3-run homer to Silver Hawks 1B Brad Miller in the 1st and it was quickly 3-0 South Bend. Joe Dickerson hit a 2-out RBI single in the 3rd but the Bees stranded 2. Gutierrez stranded 2 in the 3rd and was pulled with 2 on and 0 out in the 4th. Chris Hayes came in and gave up a run but stranded the bases full to make it 4-1 South Bend. Brady Everett scored on a passed ball in the 6th and Luis Castillo hit a sac fly to cut the lead to 4-3. Dickerson tied the game with a clutch RBI single in the 7th, stole second, moved to third on a wild pitch and then scored on a balk to give the Bees a 5-4 lead. The Bees left a runner at third in the inning and Hayes couldn't hold the lead as a 2-out RBI single tied the game. Hayes left 2 in scoring position to send the game to an 8th inning and Jeff Bianchi gave the Bees another lead with a sac fly. The Bees stranded 2 but Henry Barrera came in and stranded one Silver Hawk in the 8th for his 3rd save. Miller was 1-4 for South Bend with his 17th error, 20th homer and 3 RBI (77) to move to .266 and RP Ramon Sanchez took the loss with 1 1/3 IP of 3 ER on 2 hits, a walk and K for his 3rd blown save. He dropped to 1-2 with a 3.68 ERA.

Burlington is 20-22 and 5 games back. Game 2 of the proposed twinbill was canceled and won't be made up. The Bees start a 4-game home set versus the Fort Wayne Wizards (16-26, A Padres) tonight. They are 1-3 versus the Wizards. No announced starters on the team site.

A wild 9th ended up going the way of the Chukars as they rebounded from their first loss of the second half. Ogden scored on 2 hits and a walk off Clegg Snipes in the 1st but Clint Robinson led off the 2nd with his 9th career homer to tie the game. Anthony Seratelli threw a runner out at the plate to end the Ogden 5th and kept it tied at 1. Idaho Falls finally took the lead in the 6th on a Seratelli sac fly but the Chukars left the bases loaded. RP Greg Holland pitched out of a small jam by stranding a runner at third in the 8th but gave up 3 runs with 2 out in the 9th on 3 RBI singles and a wild pitch to make it 4-2 Ogden. Raptors RP Jhonny Caraballo came in to close it out in the Chukar 9th but IF put runners at second and third with 1 out and RBI singles from O.D. Gonzalez and Adrian Ortiz tied the game. Manni Juan followed with a third RBI single in the inning to end the game. Ogden SS Jaime Pedroza was 3-4 with his 12th double and 20th RBI to move to .372 and Caraballo took the loss with 1/3 IP of 3 ER on 3 hits and a walk to drop to 1-1 with a 4.80 ERA.

The B-Royals got into a 5-run hole early but came back to take the lead before blowing it. Henry Arias gave up 3 runs on 4 hits, a walk and wild pitch, all with 2 outs in the 1st to spot the O's a 3-0 lead. Arias was pulled with 1 out and the bases loaded in the 2nd and Yensi Lopez allowed a 2-run single before escaping the jam. Lopez stranded 2 in the 3rd and the Royals got on the board that inning on an error that scored Patrick Norris. Norris singled in a run in the 4th to cut the lead to 5-2 but the Royals left runners at the corners. After stranding 2 in the 5th the Royals came through in the 6th with 5 runs on an error that scored Yeldrys Molina, a Wilson Tucker RBI ground out, a Jake Lane RBI single, an RBI triple by Antonio Jimenez and an RBI double by Brett Amyx that made it 7-5 Burlington. Amyx was thrown out trying to score at home on a Kyle Martin single to end the inning. The lead didn't hold long as RP Jimmy Rollins allowed 3 runs in the Bluefield 7th on a Molina error and a 2-run homer. The Orioles piled on 3 runs in the 9th on 2 hits and 2 Royals errors to make all the runs unearned on Ryan Belanger. The Royals went down in order in the 9th to end it. Orioles CF Kraig Binick was 3-5 with his 8th double and 3 RBI (27) along with 3 RS to move to .343 and P Ezequiel Selen got the win with 1 1/3 IP of an unearned run on 3 hits to improve to 2-2 with a 6.38 ERA.

The B-Royals are 24-21 and 8 games back. The series with Bluefield ends tonight. No announced starters on the team site.

Three Mariners pitchers pretty much held the Royals in check but the Royal pitchers were no slouch until an 8th inning run got the M's the win. Two Royal errors and a single loaded the bases with no outs for SP Mitch Hodge in the 1st but the Canadian import wriggled out of the jam. A walk and 2 singles cost Hodge a run, however, in the 2nd as the Mariners took the 1-0 lead. Vinny Pennell broke up a perfect game by M's SP Jacob Wild with a 2-out single in the 4th and the Royals stranded 2 in scoring position in the 5th. John Foster struck out the side with a runner at third in the Mariner 5th and the Royals got to RP Eddy Fernandez in the 6th for a run on a Diego Cruz RBI single after an error lengthened the inning. RP Onassis Sirrett stranded 2 in both the 6th and 7th and was pulled for Josh Santerre with a runner at third and 1 out in the 8th. Santerre allowed the run to score on 2 singles and a walk but stranded the bases loaded. The Royals got 2 on with 2 out in the 9th but Astin Jacobo struck out to end the game. M's CF Dan Carroll was 1-4 with his 15th RBI to move to .338 and RP Travis Mortimore got the win with 2 IP of 2 hits and 2 Ks to improve to 3-1 with a 0.96 ERA.

The Royals are 6-2 and 1/2 a game up on first. They play the 4-3 Rangers in a proposed twinbill tonight.
