Royals on the Farm 5/1 -- Hasta la vista, Carlos Rosa

AAA - Omaha: O-Royals 2, Iowa 1

1B Ka'aihue 1-3, BB, HR (7), RBI (20), K, RS -- .307
DH Thorman 1-3, HR (2), RBI (9), RS -- .261
SS Aviles 1-4 -- .284
LF Lough 0-3, S, K, OF assist at third -- .241
RF Parraz 0-4, 2 K -- .148
CF Miller 0-3, BB, K, CS -- .163

Bullington 6 IP, 3 H, 4 BB, 4 K -- W, 2-0, 1.63 ERA
Colon IP, UER, H, BB, K, WP, balk -- 0.00 ERA
B. Wood 2 IP, H, 3 BB, 3 K -- SV, 5, 2.57 ERA

* The Royals got 2 solo homers and Bryan Bullington and 2 relievers made them stand up for the win. Omaha stranded 2 in the 1st and Bullington stranded the bases full in the 3rd. Kila Ka'aihue hit his 7th homer of the season in the 4th and Scott Thorman hit his 2nd of the season in the 5th. Bullington finished strong by striking out the side in the 6th. Roman Colon came in for the 7th and balked in the I-Cubs' only run. Blake Wood stranded 2 in the 8th and did the same in the 9th for his 5th save. Iowa SP Jay Jackson took the loss with 2 ER over 6 IP. SS Darwin Barney and 2B Matt Camp had 2 hits for Iowa. The O-Royals are 11-11. Anthony Lerew starts tomorrow's series finale as Omaha goes for the sweep. According to 610 the Royals have traded RP Carlos Rosa to Arizona for low minors SS Rey Navarro. I'm all for picking up SS prospects, but Navarro's best fielding % in the minors has been .949. He's only 20 and was playing for the D-Backs' A-Adv. team, where he has had 7 errors in 19 games. His best OPS has been a .708 and in 4 seasons he has posted 66 BB and 221 Ks. His best OBP has been .323. Damn, I'm looking for something good to say about him. He appears to have some speed. There. A quick through-April rundown: Kila Ka'aihue has a 1.087 OPS in 75 ABs but will be lucky to see KC this season, Wilson Betemit is next at .803 but is on the DL, Scotty Thorman is at .772 but has no place to play anywhere other than Omaha, and on a good note, Mike Aviles is at .727 for a good first month back from TJS. On the ugh side, David Lough .613, Jordan Parraz (ready yourself) .452, and yes that's OPS. On the WHIP side, Bryan Bullington 0.90 (don't wanna jinx it with the thought he may finally be living up to potential), Blake Wood 1.14, Anthony Lerew 1.20, Greg Holland 1.23, Gaby Hernandez 1.29 (and a 6-point ERA). Rosa was at 1.62 with a 3.65 ERA in 12 1/3 IP with 7 BB/10 K, and Disco is at 2.20 with a 7.20 ERA in 5 IP.

AA - NWA: rainout

* As severe weather ruined the south, the NWA game was just a side casualty. The game will be made up June 9. Friday's rainout will be made up Sunday. Good news is Springfield has lost twice to put NWA up a game without the benefit of actually playing. Stat check thru April - OPS: Moustakas 1.114 with 2 BB/5 K in 34 ABs, Derrick Robinson .898 (.427 OBP, 6 XBH, 12 BB/13 K, 15/18 SB in 70 ABs, hope this keeps up), Manny Pina .847 (.375 OBP, 13 RBI, 8 BB/5 K in 53 ABs), Clint Robinson .840 (14 BB/11 K in 69 ABs), Johnny Giavotella .819 (11 BB/8 K in 74 ABs), Nick Van Stratten .727. WHIP: Blaine Hardy 0.60 (2 BB/8 K in 15 IP), Rowdy Hardy 0.65 (only 7 2/3 IP), Everett Teaford 0.91 (3 BB/18 K in 18 2/3 IP), Edgar Osuna 1.00 (0.78 ERA, 2 BB/20 K in 23 IP), Louis Coleman 1.06...Aaron Crow 1.38 (3.94 ERA, 5 HRA, 11 BB/18 K in 29 2/3 IP).

Baez 5 IP, ER, 5 H, BB, 6 K -- 4.02 ERA

* Tim Melville got Runioned again (I shouldn't be so harsh to Sam) and the Rocks fell to the Dash. The Dash scored 9 runs in the first 3 innings and it wasn't close. Melville served up a 2-run homer in the 1st and 5 runs on 4 hits and 2 walks in the 2nd to make it 7-0 Dash. Wilmington's highlight came when Salvador Perez and Ryan Wood hit back-to-back homers in the 2nd for their 1st and 2nd of the season, respectively. Wood followed that up with a 2-run error in the 3rd. Perez hit an RBI single in the 4th and Manauris Baez pitched well other than giving up a lone run in the 8th. J.D. Alfaro hit an RBI groundout in the 8th but left the bases full, and Eddie Prasch took a bases-loaded walk before the Rocks left 'em loaded again in the 9th. Dash SP Nathan Jones allowed 3 ER over 5 IP for the win. Four Dash had multiple hits as DH Seth Loman had 3 hits and 4 RBI (20) with his 7th homer and 3B Jon Gilmore had 3 hits and 2 RBI (14). The Rocks are 10-12. Ivor Hodgson starts Sunday's series finale. Stats through April - OPS: Eddie Prasch 1.229 (6 XBH, 7 BB/5 K in 28 ABs), Eric Hosmer 1.113 (.505 OBP!!!, .418 AVG, 10 XBH, 15 RBI, 15 BB/10 K, 3/3 SB in 79 ABs, nothing not to like right now, nice to see him and Moose both over 1.000), Adrian Ortiz .779 (.363 OBP, 7 XBH, 8 BB/13 K, 8/11 SB in 72 ABs), Salvador Perez .735 (3 BB/5 K in 54 ABs), Patrick Norris .692 (6/7 SB, 12 BB/22 K in 88 ABs) and there's 7 guys under .600. WHIP: Mike Montgomery 0.73 (1.09 ERA, 4 BB/33 K in 24 2/3 IP, damn that's nice), Barry Bowden 0.78 (2.35 ERA, 3 SV, 4 BB/11 K in 7 2/3 IP), Eric Basurto 0.86 (1 BB/9 K in 7 IP), Patrick Keating 1.17 (2.25 ERA, 5 BB/16 K in 12 IP), Jairo Cuevas 1.36 (2 BB/15 K in 24 1/3 IP) and on the downside, Chris Dwyer 1.70 (14 BB/17 K in 17 2/3 IP, nice K rate anyway) and Melville 2.52 (14 BB/15 K in 16 2/3 IP).

* The Bees held off the Bandits for the win. The Bees took early command with a 4-run 1st on a Wil Myers RBI double, a bases-loaded Rene Oriental walk, and a 2-run Juan Graterol double in his first Midwest League AB of the season. Tyler Sample worked around 2 walks in the 1st and then gave up an RBI single around 3 walks in the 2nd. Carlo Testa slammed a 2-run homer in the 3rd for his 2nd homer of the season to make it 6-1. Sample allowed another run in the 3rd but the 6-2 lead held into the 7th. Dusty Odenbach loaded the bases with none out in the 7th and Rodolfo Encarnacion gave up a run-scoring passed ball on the first batter he faced as a Royals farmhand. Fernando Cruz hit an RBI single in the 8th and Joey Lewis doubled home a run in the 9th before an error scored an insurance run to make it 9-3 Bees. Encarnacion walked the bases loaded with 1 out in the 9th and walked in a run before Mitch Hodge uncorked a wild pitch to score another run. The Bandits got a sac fly before Hodge closed it out. Bandits SP Michael Blazek only got 1 out and allowed 4 ER to take the loss. Five Bandits had a hit each. The Bees are 8-15. Stat check thru April - OPS: Carlo Testa .882 (.397 OBP, 8 XBH, 14 BB/20 K in 64 ABs), Joey Lewis .836 (10 XBH, 14 BB/29 K in 75 ABs), Gerard Hall .768 (.383 OBP, 9 XBH, 16 BB/20 K, 7/8 SB in 78 ABs), Wil Myers .741 (9 XBH, 8 BB/19 K, 2/2 SB in 86 ABs, woulda bet he had a higher OPS than one of Moustakas and Hosmer early on, WRONG), Hilton Richardson .655 (5 BB/17 K, 8/9 SB in 62 ABs), Deivy Batista .596 (3 BB/22 K, 11 E in 85 ABs), Jose Bonilla .577 (in 35 ABs) and Fernando Cruz .417 (4 BB/15 K in 62 ABs). I won't go into Scott Kelley or Sam Runion.
