* Phil Humber made a triumphant return from the DL to shut the RedHawks down over 7 strong IP. Omaha stranded 2 in the 3rd but Kila Ka'aihue scored on an error in the 4th to give Omaha the lead. Omaha stranded 2 in the 5th and Ed Lucas singled in a run in the 6th to make it 2-0. Humber gave up 1 hit and faced the minimum thru 6. Scott Thorman hammered a solo homer in the 7th for his 3rd of the season and David Lough tripled home a run to make it 4-0. Blake Johnson came in for his AAA debut in the 8th and loaded the bases with none out before an Irving Falu error scored 2 runs. Johnson settled down to escape further damage. The Royals stranded the bases full in the 8th but Greg Holland pitched a 1-2-3 9th for his 1st 2010 save. RP Geoff Geary took the loss with 3 IP of 2 runs (1 ER) allowed. Starter Tommy Hunter pitched 3 scoreless innings. Four Hawks had a hit each. The O-Royals are 13-11 and on a 5-game win streak. Gaby Hernandez starts Tuesday's game 2.

* The Naturals got a 4-game sweep of the Travelers behind Mario Santiago Monday. Nick Van Stratten hit a 2-out, 2-run double in the 1st, and NWA would strand 2 in the 3rd. Santiago gave up his only run in the 3rd but Manny Pina led off the 4th with his 3rd homer of the season to make it 3-1. Santiago had a rocky 4th but emerged unscathed and Pina hit an RBI single in the 5th before Ernesto Mejia hit a sac fly to make it 5-1 NW Arkansas. The Travelers wouldn't threaten again. Arkansas SP Michael Anton took the loss with 5 ER over 5 IP. Five Travs had a hit each. The Nats are 15-8 and 2 1/2 games up on first at the moment. The Royals, as shown above, sent P Blake Johnson up to Omaha, I assume to take Roman Colon's place. A 4-game home set with the second place Springfield Cardinals starts Tuesday. Aaron Crow starts the opener for NWA.

* Chris Dwyer had a mediocre start and the Rocks generated zero offense. Dwyer gave up 2 runs in the 1st and Salem pushed in another run in the 4th. The Sox then scored their final run off Dwyer and Patrick Keating in the 6th, altho Keating got out of a bases-loaded, no-out jam. The Rocks had only a Ben Theriot double going into the 7th and Eric Hosmer doubled that inning. The Rocks got 2 on in the 9th but didn't rally. Salem SP Caleb Clay allowed only a hit over 6 IP. RF Mitch Dening had 2 hits for the Sox. C Ryan Lavarnaway drove in his 26th RBI. The Rocks are 10-14 and in last place by 1/2 a game. The organization sent down IF Ryan Wood to Burlington to make room for new addition SS Rey Navarro. Wood had the worst BA in the Carolina League through April by hitting only .100 and led the team with 6 errors. Alex Caldera starts Tuesday for Wilmington.

* The Bees ended up with 3 of 4 from the Bandits. The first 5 batters in the game struck out and Deivy Batista broke the ice with an RBI single in the 3rd. The Bees left 2 in scoring position in the 4th and Bryan Paukovits gave up the Bandits' only run on a solo homer in the 4th. Wil Myers broke the tie for good with a 2-run double in the 5th. Paukovits left the bases full in the 5th and Carlo Testa took a bases-loaded walk in the 7th to make it 4-1 Bees. Brendan Lafferty came in with 2 outs in the 9th to strand the bases loaded. Bandits SP Joe Kelly allowed 3 ER over 5 IP to take the loss. Three Bandits had a hit each as 3B Niko Vasquez hit his 2nd homer to drive in his 10th RBI. He also made 2 errors (4). The game was shown on the MLB Network, so the Bees made themselves look solid. The Bees are 10-15. A 3-game home set with the Kane County Cougars (A A's) starts Tuesday. P Ryan Dennick has also been added to the Bees' roster.
