* Anthony Lerew had a standout start and the O-Royals shut down the Express. Omaha stranded 2 in the 1st but slapped up a 5-spot in the 2nd on an Ed Lucas RBI single, Irving Falu RBI single, 2-run Alex Gordon single and run-scoring error to put Omaha in command. Scott Thorman singled home a run and Jordan Parraz hit a sac fly in the 4th to make it 7-0. Lerew stranded the bases full in the 6th as the Express had their best shot. Kila Ka'aihue creamed a 2-run homer in the 8th for his 9th homer of the season to finish the scoring. Former Royals farmhand Shane Loux took the loss with 5 ER over 1 1/3 IP. Two Express batters had 2 hits. Omaha is 26-21 and has trimmed the deficit to 1 1/2 games with a 7th straight win. RP Victor Marte got recalled to KC as Gil Meche hit the DL with his rubberband arm. Phil Humber starts Sunday's game 3.

* NWA turned it on late to break a losing skid. Midland plated 2 off Eduardo Paulino in the 3rd and the lead held into the 7th. 'Hounds SP Pedro Figueroa loaded the bases with 0 out to get pulled and Chris McConnell and Johnny Giavotella took walks to tie it. Clint Robinson hit a sac fly and Jeff Howell hit an RBI single to make it 4-2 Naturals. Midland scored a run in the 8th but the Naturals got 2 key insurance runs in the 9th on an Ernesto Mejia RBI single and bases-loaded Anthony Seratelli walk. Louis Coleman gave up a 2-run homer in the 9th and had runners on second and third when he induced the game-ending groundout. Figueroa took the loss with 3 ER over 6 IP to drop to 1-4. DH Alex Valdez was 3-5 with a triple, his 7th homer and 3 RBI (31) and LF Shane Peterson had 3 hits as well. 3B Jeff Baisley had 2 hits.

* Chris Dwyer and, more so, the Rocks got pummeled by the Pelicans. Dwyer gave up a run in the 1st and then a 2-run homer in the 4th and got a whopping 2 hits of support through 5. Dwyer got pulled with 1 on and 1 out in the 6th and James Thompson allowed 3 runs before getting out of the inning. Eric Basurto and Harold Mozingo gave up 3 runs in the 8th to finish MB's scoring. Salvador Perez hit an RBI groundout in the 9th to spoil the shutout. Starter J.J. Hoover got the win with 8 shutout IP. Three Pelicans had 2 hits as 2B Travis Jones drove in 3. The Rocks are 22-28. Lefty Starling De La Rosa got sent back to ST and Eddie Prasch was put on the DL to make room for Basurto and Nick Francis on the roster. Ivor Hodgson starts Sunday's series finale. Prasch broke a bone in his hand on his game winning AB Friday.

A - Burlington: Quad Cities 12, Bees 4

* The Bees also got blistered Saturday as Quad Cities ran away and hid with the victory. Both teams scored a run in the 1st as Joey Lewis hit an RBI double, but the Bandits rallied for 6 in the 2nd off Keaton Hayenga. Wil Myers doubled in a run in the 3rd and Rene Oriental hit an RBI single before Hilton Richardson hit an RBI forceout in the 4th to cut it to 7-4. That was as close as it got as the Bandits scored the game's last 5 runs. RP Justin Smith got the win with 2 runs (1 ER) allowed over 4 1/3 IP. Starter Shelby Miller also allowed 2 runs (1 ER) over 2 2/3 IP. Five Bandits had multiple hits led by a 4-5 night from CF D'Marcus Ingram, who ripped 2 doubles and drove in 3. The Bees are 17-32.
