Royals on the Farm 6/7

AAA: Two 3-run innings helped Omaha to a 7-3 win over Nashville and a 4-game sweep of the Sounds on their home field. The O-Royals scored 3 in the 1st on an RBI double by RF Aaron Guiel and a 2-run homer by C Scott Walter, his 3rd of the season. Nashville scored 2 off SP Chris George (making his Omaha-record 90th start for the O-Royals) to close the gap to 1. Omaha tacked on 3 more in the 4th on an RBI single by 3B Justin Gemoll, an RBI double by SS Alejandro Prieto and an RBI single by CF Adrian Brown. Omaha's final run came in the 8th on an RBI double by Walter. George got the win to move to 4-3 as he went 7 innings and allowed 3 ER on 5 hits and a BB with 2 Ks to drop his ERA to 5.74. RP Jaime Cerda went 1 inning and allowed nothing to lower his whopping ERA to 17.47. RP Santiago Ramirez, who seems to pitch every day, went an inning and K'd 1 to drop his ERA to 5.40. Brown was 2-5 with an RBI to move his BA to .266, DH Denny Hocking was 0-4 to drop to .304, 1B Ken Harvey was 1-4 to drop to .357, Walter was 2-4 with a double, HR and 3 RBI to improve to .324 and Gemoll was 1-4 with an RBI to drop to .318.

Omaha is 27-33 and 3 1/2 games back of Memphis. The Redbirds come to town for a 4-game set beginning Thursday. Omaha has an off day today.

AA: The Wichita Wranglers scored 2 in the 1st and pitchers Kyle Middleton and Jonah Bayliss took care of the rest as the Wranglers took the series opener with Springfield, 4-3. Wichita got on the board first as DH Josh Pressley knocked a 2-run single in the opening frame. Springfield scored in the 3rd to cut the lead to 1 and the teams each scored a run in both the 5th and 6th innings. Wichita's runs came on sac flies by SS Mike Aviles and 1B Justin Huber. Bayliss pitched the last 3 innings to secure the win. Middleton improved to 7-4 as he went 6 IP and allowed 3 R (2 ER) on 7 hits and 2 BB with 4 Ks to move his ERA to 2.72. Bayliss got his 2nd save as he went 3 IP and K'd 3 to drop his ERA to 2.54. Huber was 1-3 with a BB, RBI and 2 RS to improve his BA to .321, RF Cory Aldridge was 2-5 to improve to .293, Pressley was 2-4 with an RBI and BB to improve to .307, C Mathew Tupman was 2-3 with a BB to up his BA to .279 and 3B Brennan King was 2-4 with a double to improve to .241.

Wichita is 29-29 and in a 3-way tie for second, 7 games back of Tulsa. Cards' SP Jordan Pals (3-4, 4.14) goes up against SP Ryan Baerlocher, who is making his first start for Wichita after a call-up from High Desert, tonight.

High-A: A 6-run 4th gave High Desert what it needed as the Mavs got past Rancho Cucamonga, 8-4. The Mavs scored 1 in the 3rd on a solo homer by LF Darwinson Salazar (his 2nd for HD) but the Quakes took the lead with 2 in the top of the 4th. In the bottom of that inning, 3B Adam Keim hit an RBI double to start a rally and, with two outs and the bases loaded, Salazar drew a walk to force in a run. C Adam Donachie followed with a 3-run double and was in turn driven in on a single by 2B Andres Blanco. The Mavs added a run in the 8th on another bases-loaded walk by Salazar to get some insurance. SP Billy Buckner got his first HD win to improve to 4-7. He went 6 IP and allowed 4 ER on 7 hits and a BB with 4 Ks to bump his ERA to 4.07. RP Eric Ackerman got his 4th hold with 2 IP of 1 hit and 2 Ks to drop his ERA to 4.93. RP Chris Demaria finished the final inning to drop his ERA to 3.03. Blanco was 2-4 with an RBI to move his BA to .444. Keim was 2-4 with a double, RBI and 2 RS to improve to .308, 1B Kila Kaaihue was 0-3 with a BB to drop to .352, DH Brandon Powell was 0-3 to drop to .304 and Salazar was 1-2 with 2 BB, a HR, 3 RBI and 2 RS to improve to .191.

High Desert is 29-28 and 3 games back of Lake Elsinore and Lancaster. Tonight's matchup on the mound is Quakes RHP Chris Hunter (4-4, 4.18) vs. RHP Chris Coughlin (0-4, 7.20).

Low-A: Relievers Yovany Damico and Rusty Begnaud were roughed up and the Burlington Bees dropped a 7-3 game to Dayton thanks to a 5-run Dragon 8th. Burlington scored first with a run in the 6th on an RBI ground out by SS Mario Lisson but the Dragons scored 2 in the bottom of the inning to take the lead. After the 8th, Dayton took a 7-1 lead into the 9th but the Bees rallied for runs on a 2-run homer by 3B Eddie Solis (his 4th). That was it, though. SP Daniel Christensen had a good start squandered as he went 5 IP and allowed only 2 hits and 3 BB with 4 Ks. His ERA dropped to 3.99. Damico blew his 2nd save and got the loss to drop to 0-2. He went 2 IP and allowed 4 ER on 4 hits and a BB with a K to up his ERA to 3.94. Begnaud went an inning and gave up 3 ER on 4 hits to bump his ERA to 8.49. CF Geraldo Valentin finished his 3-game suspension for on-field misbehavior and was 2-4 to improve to .262 and also committed his 9th error. 1B Edward Lucas was 1-4 to drop to .308.

Burlington is 27-31 and 5 1/2 games back of first. The Bees are off today before starting a 5-game home set with 33-24 Fort Wayne.
