* Luis Mendoza had a good start and the Royals beat the RiverCats. He gave up a solo homer in the 1st but after Ed Lucas doubled to lead off the 2nd, Scott Thorman hammered a 2-run homer for his 17th of the season. Five batters later, Jarrod Dyson cashed in with the bases loaded as a grand slam made it 6-1 and marked his 1st AAA homer. Sacramento scored another run in the 5th but Mendoza was at the absolute top of his game. Louis Coleman struck out the side in the 8th and stranded 1 in the 9th. Omaha is 66-54. Blaine Hardy pitches game 2 Saturday.

* A 6-0 Nats lead in the 1st evaporated in 3 innings and they lost the game in the 8th. The Naturals started the game with 6 straight singles as Eric Hosmer drove in a run and Nick Van Stratten and Tim Smith did the same before Manny Pina ripped a 3-run double to make it 6-0. Frisco got a run off John Lamb in the 1st and another in the 2nd, and chased him with a walk and 3 singles to start the 3rd. Rowdy Hardy came in with a run in, the bases loaded and 0 out and all 3 inherited runners scored before he escaped the inning with the game tied at 6. The Naturals' offense sputtered and Barry Bowden made his return to NWA in the 8th. A 1-out single and Anthony Seratelli error scored the go-ahead run. The Naturals left a runner in scoring position in the 9th. NWA is 29-18. A 3-game series at the Midland RockHounds (25-22, AA A's) starts Saturday.

* The Rocks put together a big rally in the 8th to overcome the Sox. Patrick Norris hit a sac fly in the 2nd and Salvador Perez singled in a run in the 3rd but the Rocks left the bases full. Salem finally got to Aaron Crow in the 6th to break up his 1-hit shutout with 2 runs on 4 hits. Crow was pulled with 2 on and 1 out in the 8th and Kevin Chapman faltered by giving up a 2-run double to the first batter he faced but stranded the bases full. The Rocks were down, 4-2, but got 2 on with 1 out in their half and got a big 2-run triple from Rey Navarro and Norris hit the go-ahead single. Chapman recovered for a perfect 9th to pick up his 1st pro victory. The Rocks are 25-22. Game 2 is Saturday. Tim Melville has rejoined the roster. Will Smith starts Saturday.

* A 9-run 2nd propelled the Bees to the win. Dusty Odenbach gave up 2 runs in the 1st but the Bees more than picked him up in the 2nd. They loaded the bases with 1 out and Hilton Richardson ripped a 3-run triple, Whit Merrifield hit an RBI single, Carlo Testa singled in a run, Ben Theriot hit a 2-run single and Fernando Cruz hit a 2-run triple to make it 9-2 Bees. Odenbach served up a solo homer in the 2nd but Jake Kuebler and Theriot hit RBI singles in the 3rd to make it 11-3. The LumberKings scored again in the 4th but the runs stopped there. The Bees tacked on 4 in the 8th on a Jose Bonilla 3-run triple and run-scoring error. The Bees are 16-28. A 3-day, 4-game set with the Quad Cities River Bandits (27-18, A Cardinals) starts Saturday.

* The Raptors absolutely steamrolled Brian Peacock and the Chukars Friday. Ogden got started with 2 in the 1st and then scored 9 in the 2nd off Peacock and Tyler Graham to make it 11-0. Ogden scored again in the 4th. Lane Adams hit a sac fly in the 5th. Reggie Taylor hit an RBI triple in the 9th. That was all the Chukars got. IF is 3-10. Murray Watts hit a 2-run walkoff shot in the 9th as IF beat Casper, 7-5, Thursday.

* That's 21 straight (at least) scoreless innings versus the Sox. But Bristol didn't get the win easy Friday as Jonathan Dooley and two relievers shut out the Sox over 11 innings before the game broke in the 12th. The Royals stranded 2 in the 3rd but that was really the best chance either team had until the 12th. Claudio Bavera gave up an RBI single and 2-run homer in the 12th. The Royals stranded 1 in the 12th. The Royals are 23-28. Crawford Simmons starts the series finale Saturday.

* The 4th was the pivotal inning in the Royals' win Friday. Jorge Bonifacio hit a 2-run triple in the 1st but the Reds got 4 off Yordano Ventura in the 4th to take the lead. Daniel Mateo took a bases-loaded walk in the bottom of the inning and Mike Antonio had perhaps his biggest pro hit to date with a 3-run double making it 6-4 Royals. Mateo hit a sac fly in the 6th to make it 7-4. Rudy Brown gave up a single and RBI double to start the 9th and Cole White came in to shut it down for his 1st save of the season. The Royals are 21-21. The Royals ended up beating the Giants, 7-4, Thursday.
