* The game would be over but Josh Rupe blew a 2-run lead in the 9th. Blaine Hardy gave up 2 runs in the 2nd but the Royals finally plated some runs in the 6th to tie it on a Mike Moustakas RBI single and Scott Thorman RBI groundout. David Lough hit a 2-run single in the 7th to make it 4-2 Royals but Rupe had a bad 9th and was lucky to escape with the game tied. He was equally bad in the 10th as Moustakas started the inning with an error and a wild pitch and HBP preceded a walkoff single. Omaha is 66-55. Anthony Lerew starts game 3 Sunday.

* Former Royals farmhand Matt Wright got a measure of payback to his former franchise as he pitched 6 scoreless and the RockHounds riddled Mike Montgomery Saturday. The Naturals left 2 in scoring position in the 1st and then Montgomery gave up 3 runs to Midland in the bottom of the inning. The Hounds added another run in the 2nd and then 3 in the 4th off Montgomery. Eduardo Paulino gave up another run in the 5th to make it 8-0 and the only Nats run came on a Paulo Orlando RBI single in the 7th. NWA is 29-19 and 3 games up on first. Game 2 is Sunday.

* Will Smith had his best organizational start yet and the Rocks routed the Sox. Adrian Ortiz started the Rocks 1st by getting to third on a Salem error and Christian Colon lifted a sac fly to get Wilmington on the board. Patrick Norris hit a 2-out triple in the 2nd and scored on an Ortiz single, and Colon singled in a run before Wil Myers connected on a 2-run homer for his 1st at Wilmington to make it 5-0 Rocks. Rey Navarro hit a 2-run double in the 3rd with Norris hitting an RBI double to make it 8-0. Smith scattered the 3 hits over 3 innings and Nick Francis hit an RBI double in the 7th as Navarro hit a sac fly and Norris doubled in a run to make it 11-0. The Rocks are 26-22 and 2 games back. Tim Melville starts Sunday as the Rocks try for the sweep.

* It was Quad Cities who forced extras late and the Bandits followed thru to hold off the Bees in the 11th. Quad Cities got started with a 2-run 1st off Tyler Sample but Whit Merrifield led off the Bees 1st with a double and scored on an Alex McClure single. Jose Bonilla went yard in the 2nd for his 2nd homer of the year -- a 2-run shot -- and Hilton Richardson singled in a run to make it 4-2 Bees. Sample didn't notch an out in the 3rd as 2 hits and 2 wild pitches scored a run and brought in Josh Worrell to put out the flames. McClure singled in an insurance run in the 5th and it came in handy as Rodolfo Encarnacion came on for his 3rd inning of work in the 7th. It didn't go well as he loaded the bases with none out and scored a run on a wild pitch before Scott Kelley was brought in. Kelley allowed the tying run to score on a double-play ball but escaped with the tie intact. The Bees stranded 2 in the 8th and Matt Morizio stranded 2 in the 10th. The Bees loaded the bases with 1 out in the 10th but Bonilla grounded into a DP to end the inning. Morizio gave up a leadoff homer in the 11th and a triple led to another run as QC made it 7-5. Richardson hit a 2-out triple in the 11th and scored on a Merrifield single but McClure lined out to end the game. The Bees are 16-29. The teams play a doubleheader Sunday.

* Ogden made a 9th inning comeback to take down the Chukars. The Raptors scored a run in the 1st but Malcom Culver drove in 2 runs with a single aided by a Raptor error. Leondy Perez stranded 2 in the 3rd and 4th but allowed the tying run in the 5th. Murray Watts drove in 2 runs with a 5th inning single that was aided by 2 errors. Tom Zebroski added an RBI single to make it 5-2 IF. Ogden scored 2 off Mike Mariot in the 6th but the 5-4 lead held into the 9th. Brennon Martin stranded 2 in the 8th and a 1-out double in the 9th scored the tying run before a 2-out Geulin Beltre error in center scored the go-ahead run. Alex Rivers allowed another RBI single and the last 7 Chukars went down in order. IF is 3-11. The series wraps Sunday.

* The Royals fell behind, 4-0, and couldn't get back. Crawford Simmons gave up a run on 2 hits in the 1st and another run on 1 hit in the 3rd. A 2-run homer in the 4th made it 4-0 but the Royals got on the board in the bottom of the inning on a 2-run Mike Liberto single aided by a Sox error. Derek Rodriguez singled and scored on a Sox error in the 5th but the Royals stranded 2 in the 7th and 1 in the 9th. The Royals are 23-29. A 3-game set with the Danville Braves (28-24) starts Sunday.

* The Royals rebounded nicely from a 3-run Padres 1st to take the lead into the 9th. Angel Baez started but didn't survive the 1st as the Pads scored 3 runs and Jon Rodriguez finished the inning. Victor Soto hit an RBI forceout and Darian Sandford singled in a run in the 2nd as the Royals cut into the lead. Rodriguez loaded the bases with 0 out in the 5th but pulled the Houdini. Jerico Blanco made his pitching debut in the 6th and struck out the side. Josh Fields got a big hit with a 2-out, 2-run triple in the 7th to turn the lead around but the Padres tied it in the bottom of the inning. The Royals broke out with 4 in the 8th on a Soto RBI single, 2-run Daniel Mateo single and a steal of home by Sandford. That's where it stands going into the bottom of the 9th.
