* The teams were in their sixth straight scoreless inning when the Royals finally ended it in 12. Omaha took the lead with 2 runs in the 3rd on a David Lough RBI double and Mike Moustakas RBI single. Blaine Hardy gave up 2 runs in the 4th to tie it but Jarrod Dyson hit a 2-out RBI double in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-2. Omaha left the bases full in the 5th but Mariners' recent addition Justin Smoak went solo in the 6th to tie the game. The game went to extras, when Omaha left the bases full in the 10th. Louis Coleman stranded 2 in the 11th and then Matt Herges left the bases full in the Tacoma 12th. With 2 on and 1 out in the 12th, Moustakas singled to center to bring home Marc Maddox for the winning run. Omaha is 62-54. Anthony Lerew starts game 2 Monday.

* The Naturals forced extras in the 9th but succumbed in 11. John Lamb wasn't at the top of his game as he allowed 2 runs in the 1st thanks in part to a Manny Pina error, then after NWA stranded the bases full in the 3rd, Lamb gave up 2 in the 4th but got an assist from Nick Van Stratten in right to end the inning. Chris McConnell hit a 2-run double in the 4th but the Nats left the bases full again. Eric Hosmer made a run-scoring error in the 5th but the Nats got the run back on a Clint Robinson solo homer (his 20th) to lead off the NWA 5th and cut it to 5-3. Henry Barrera stranded the bases loaded in the 9th, and Johnny Giavotella played momentary hero in the bottom of the inning with a 1-out, 2-run homer (his 5th) to tie the game. Brandon Sisk gave up an RBI triple in the 11th and the Nats went down without much fight in the bottom of the frame. NWA is 26-17. Mike Montgomery starts the series finale Monday.

* The Rocks helped dig Aaron Crow out of a 3-run hole for his 1st Carolina League win. Nick Francis doubled and scored on a balk in the 2nd and, after Crow left the bases full in the 2nd, Salem tied it in the 3rd. Crow gave up a 3-run homer in the 4th to make it 4-1 Sox but Christian Colon hit an RBI single in the 6th and the Rocks tied it in the 8th on another Colon RBI single followed by a Wil Myers RBI double. Rey Navarro had the key blow with a 2-out solo homer in the 9th for his 4th as a Rock. Crow retired the last 7 he faced and Brendan Lafferty stranded 1 in the 9th for his 1st save. The Rocks are 23-20. James Thompson was put on the temporarily inactive list and Ryan Dennick got a callup from the Bees. A 4-game home set with the Winston-Salem Dash (21-21, A-Adv. ChiSox) starts Monday with Will Smith starting the opener.

* The Bees came back from down, 5-1, but it was all Kane County late as they drubbed Burlington. The Cougs scored 2 in the 2nd and 1 in the 4th off Tyler Sample, who had more problems with walks Sunday. Alex McClure doubled and scored on a Jake Kuebler double in the 4th but Sample got chased in the 5th after giving up 2 more runs to make it 5-1. The Bees' offense turned up for one inning as they rallied for 5 in the 5th on a 2-run McClure single, Whit Merrifield RBI double, Carlo Testa RBI forceout and a play on which Merrifield scored while Testa was caught stealing second. The game turned again in the 6th as Rodolfo Encarnacion gave up a 3-run longball. Matt Morizio made his Bees comeback debut as a pitcher in the 8th and got rocked as the Cougars scored 4 in the 8th and 1 in the 9th. Deivy Batista went solo in the 8th for his 4th of the season but it was too little too late. The Bees are 15-25. Game 3 is Monday.

* Crawford Simmons had another remarkable outing as he and Chas Byrne combined on a 5-hit shutout of the Braves. A run scored on an Edul Escobar double play ball in the 3rd and then Escobar went solo in the 6th for his 2nd of the season. Brian Fletcher continued to have a positive impact on the Royals as he led off the 7th with a single, stole second, advanced on a passed ball and then stole home to make it 3-0. A wild pitch scored the 4th B-Royals run in the 8th. Simmons stranded 2 in the 3rd and Byrne stranded 2 in the 9th to pick up his 5th save. The Royals are 22-24. A 3-game set at the Johnson City Cardinals (29-17) starts Monday.

* A 5-run 1st has fueled the Giants' lead. Gary Cuevas got 2 outs but gave up 4 runs before getting pulled for Yordano Ventura, who allowed an RBI double before escaping the inning. Ventura gave up a run in the 2nd to make it 6-0 Giants. Henry Moreno went solo in the 4th for his 3rd homer of the season and Jerico Blanco singled in a run to cut it to 6-2. Daniel Mateo singled in a run in the 5th and that's where it sits.
