Royals on the Farm 7/18 -- YOU'RE WELCOME Kane County, and a Mendoza no-no??!?!??!

The Pipeline RotF reports return and, bam, the Kane County losing streak stops at 5....I can't take full credit but I'd like to think some kind of karma was involved.

AAA - Omaha: Storm Chasers 4, Memphis 0 (no-hitter...or was it???)

LF Lough 3-4, BB, RBI (44), K, E (4) -- .314
RF Dyson 2-5, RBI (7), 2 RS -- .280
2B Giavotella 2-5, K, RS -- .335
CF Cain 2-3, BB, K, RS, SB (10) -- .324
1B Robinson 1-4, BB, 2 RBI (63) -- .324
SS Aviles 1-5, K -- .311
DH Ka'aihue 0-3, BB, 3 K -- .286
Omaha stranded 10.

Mendoza CG, 0 H, 4 BB, 7 K -- W, 7-3, 2.30 ERA, what can I say....Luis is having a good season

* Luis Mendoza (yes, he of the 8.43 MLB career ERA, tho I shouldn't dump on his great night) threw a no-hitter for the Storm Chasers as he whitewashed the Redbirds. Omaha got all they needed with a David Lough RBI single in the 3rd, but Clint Robinson hit a 2-run single in the 5th and Jarrod Dyson hit an RBI groundout in the 8th. Mendoza retired 14 in a row at one point and only faced more than 1 runner in the 8th when he walked 2. He finished it in style by striking out LF Andrew Brown swinging. Omaha is 53-43. The no-no was the first for Omaha since Luis Aquino did the same in 1988. Must be a Luis thing. The last PCL no-hitter was by a Texas prospect named Luis Mendoza in 2009. Yes, it's the same guy. Man, why does he have an 8-point MLB ERA??? David Lough was credited with an iffy error call in the 9th to keep the no-hitter alive. BUT WAIT! Hot off the presses, er the Omaha Facebook page, the Lough error may be changed to a hit by the Memphis scorekeeper....intrigue in the former home of the Chicks. I don't get cliffhangers very often here. Vin Mazzaro is set to start Tuesday as the Chasers try to avenge the no-hitter that wasn't.

AA - NW Arkansas: Naturals 8, Arkansas 2

SS Colon 2-3, 2 S, HR (5), 3 RBI (46), 2 RS -- .258
1B Seratelli 2-4, S, RS, SB (24) -- .283
3B Navarro 2-4, K, RS, SB (3) -- .270
2B Bianchi 1-4, HBP, 2 RBI (38), K -- .269
DH Romak 1-5, HR (16), RBI (50), 2 K, RS -- .252
RF Francis 1-3, BB, HBP, RBI (16), SB (9) -- .298
LF Orlando 1-3, SF, RBI, K, RS -- .111
CF Robinson 1-3, 2 BB, 2B (5), 2 RS, SB (37) -- .275
C S. Perez 1-5, PB (3) -- .265

Baez 4 IP, ER, 4 H, 3 K -- 4.46 ERA
Keating 2 IP, ER, H, 2 K, HRA -- W, 3-3, 5.25 ERA
E. Garcia 3 IP, 6 K -- SV, 1, 0.00 ERA, nice NWA debut

* The Naturals put together a solid offensive effort Monday to take down the Travelers. Arkansas scored first in the 2nd, but Jeff Bianchi hit a 2-run single in the 3rd and the Nats wouldn't trail again. Paulo Orlando hit a sac fly in the 4th and Christian Colon had the key hit with a 3-run homer (his 5th) to make it 6-1. Jamie Romak led off the 5th with his 16th homer and the Travs' only other run came in the 6th. Nick Francis singled in a run in the 9th for some gravy. NWA is 10-13. Will Smith is to start game 2 Tuesday.

A-Adv. - Wilmington: Myrtle Beach 10, Blue Rocks 1

2B Mertins 2-4, K -- .209, not a good sign for Kurt that he's back in the Carolina League
LF Merrifield 1-4, E (3) -- .256
DH Testa 1-3, BB, K, CS (3) -- .255

Marks 3 1/3 IP, 6 R (4 ER), 7 H, 3 BB, 2 K -- L, 5-7, 4.52 ERA

Dennick 2 IP, 2 H, K -- 3.73 ERA
Keck IP, H, 2 K -- 2.25 ERA

* The Pelicans flew away with Monday's series opener. They started with 2 in the 3rd, then singled their way to 5 runs in the 4th. Ryan Stovall doubled and scored on a wild pitch in the 5th for Wilmington's only run. Back-to-back homers off Brendan Lafferty made it 10-1 Pelicans in the 5th. The Rocks stranded 2 in the 8th. Wilmington is 9-14. Elisaul Pimentel is set to start game 2 of the set Tuesday.

Byrne 2 IP, ER, H, 3 K, HRA -- BS, 1, W, 2-1, 3.69 ERA

* The Cougars blew a 4-run lead in the 8th but were REDEEMED by Geulin Beltre. Beltre got the Cougs started with a sac fly in the 2nd, but Kane County left the bases loaded in the 3rd. Leondy Perez faltered for his only time in the game in giving up the tying run in the 4th. Cheslor Cuthbert hit the go-ahead single with 2 out in the 5th and it was followed by a Jake Kuebler 2-run single and run-scoring error that made it 5-1 KC. The Cougars left the bases loaded in the 7th and Mitch Hodge was pulled after allowing 2 runs without notching an out in the 8th. Chas Byrne came in and gave up a 2-run homer to tie the game. KC put 2 in scoring position with 1 out in the 9th and Beltre hit a walkoff single to end it. KC is 14-10. The Cougars have Tuesday off.
