Royals on the Farm 7/2

The biggest recent news for the organization may be the signing of Dominican OF prospect Elier Hernandez, 16, which became official today. Venezuelans C Luis Lara and SS Angelo Castellano are also on the international signing radar for KC. They did sign 21st rounder C Kenny Swab out of Virginia as well.

* Albuquerque scored first but Omaha did it all from there. Omaha stranded 2 in the 1st and Sean O'Sullivan allowed a run in the 2nd. Johnny Giavotella slammed a 2-run homer in the 3rd for his 7th of the season. He came back up in the 5th and hit a sac fly to make it 3-1 Omaha. Kila Ka'aihue singled home a run in the 6th to make it 4-1. Jeremy Jeffress struck out the side in the 9th for his 2nd save. Omaha is 46-37. The series wraps Sunday with Jeff Suppan trying to take another drink of his rejuvenation juice. OF Jarrod Dyson is coming back to Omaha as Kyle Davies was activated. By the way, I think I noted the Isotopes as the Marlins' AAA team, when it's actually the Dodgers.

Christian Colon hit an RBI groundout in the 3rd and Wil Myers hit an RBI double in the 5th, tho Colon was tagged out at the plate on the play. Herrera was greeted with an RBI single in the 7th to spoil the shutout but didn't allow another hit. A 2-run homer was part of a 3-run Beloit 3rd and Perez and Jon Keck combined to give up 3 more in the 5th. Brian Fletcher hit an RBI double in the 8th and that was the Cougars' last hit. KC is 6-3. A 3-game set with the Quad Cities River Bandits (3-5, A Cardinals) starts Sunday as Greg Billo makes the start. Brian Fletcher was named Midwest League player of the week for last week, which I somehow just found out about tonight. That's the kind of obvious coverage the team site and local newspaper don't make readily available.

The Chukars left 2 on in the 3rd and a 2-run homer in the 3rd made it 3-0 Casper. Richard Espy led off the 4th with his 1st professional longball to get the Chukars on the board. Casper got the run back with interest off as they got 3 off Penny in the bottom of the inning. A 2-run error cut it to 6-3 in the 6th but Casper talled a run in the bottom of the inning to make it 7-3. Mark Threlkeld hit an RBI single in the 7th but the Chukars stranded 2 in the 7th and 8th then left 'em loaded in the 9th. Idaho Falls is 6-6. Ferguson 2 IP, 2 R (1 ER), 3 H, 3 K -- 2.57 ERA

* The Royals made a rout look at least a little better in the 9th, but a loss is a loss. Robinson Yambati had another abysmal start, which began with a 2-run Sox 1st. Jared Dyer hit an RBI single in the 2nd but Bristol got it back in the 3rd. Yambati gave up a 3-run homer before getting pulled in the 4th and Alex Rivers allowed 2 more runs before the dust settled with the Sox up 8-1.
