* The Chasers only had 1 less hit than Iowa but the Cubs drubbed 'em on Saturday. It got started with a 2-run homer off Mario Santiago in the 1st. Another 2-run homer in the 3rd made it 4-0 I-Cubs. Omaha left the bases full in the 5th and stranded 2 in the 6th. Iowa added a run in the 5th and 2 in the 6th to make it 7-0. Johnny Giavotella broke up the shutout with an RBI double in the 7th and a Mike Moustakas sac fly cut it to 7-2. Giavotella came back up in the 8th and hit a 2-run single but Omaha would leave the bases full again. Iowa scored an additioanl run in the 7th and 2 in the 8th to pour it on. Four Cubs had multiple hits led by 3 from 2B Bobby Scales, who hit his 5th homer with 3 RBI (30) and his 3rd SB to improve to .303. 1B Bryan LaHair hit his 14th homer with 3 RBI (42).

* Omaha fought back from down 8 runs to tie the game but lost it in the 9th. A Jeff Suppan error helped Iowa score a run in the 1st and Iowa added 3 in the 3rd and 4 in the 4th to make it 8-0. Omaha's offense awoke in the 6th as Lance Zawadzki scored on an error and Johnny Giavotella hit an RBI groundout to trim it to 8-2. The comeback continued in the 7th as Lorenzo Cain and Zawadzki hit RBI singles, and Giavotella singled in 2 runs to cut it to 8-6. Kila Ka'aihue got it tied with one swing of the bat in the 8th as his 1st AAA homer of the season tied it to 8-8. Jeremy Jeffress got through the 8th but allowed a 2-out walkoff single in the 9th to CF Matt Camp. OF Fernando Perez and LF Bryan LaHair had 2 hits as LaHair hit his 15th homer and drove in 4 (46). Omaha is 31-26. Game 3 is Monday. Vin Mazzaro will start.

* Midland exploded in the 10th for 7 runs to effectively break up a 9-9 tie. Chris Dwyer had his struggles again as the RockHounds got a 3-run homer from C Petey Paramore for his 2nd of the season in the 2nd. NWA had an answer as Nick Francis hit an RBI single and Ben Theriot went deep for a 2-run shot for his 2nd of the season to tie it in the bottom of the inning. Tim Smith tripled in a run and scored on a Jamie Romak groundout to make it 5-3 Naturals. Dwyer ran into trouble again in the 5th as he walked the bases loaded to start the inning, then allowed 2 1-out singles to score 3 runs. Willy Lebron came in and let in 2 more runs before escaping the inning down, 8-5. A passed ball on Theriot allowed Midland to make it 9-5 in the 6th. Theriot came up with 1 on and 2 out in the 6th and slammed his 2nd homer of the game and 3rd of the season to cut the lead to 9-7. Anthony Seratelli added an RBI single to trim the lead to 1. The score remained 9-8 into the 9th, when Christian Colon led off the bottom of the frame with his 3rd homer of the season to tie the game. Eduardo Paulino had pitched hitless innings in the 8th and 9th, but faltered in the 10th. Two 1-out singles and a Jeff Bianchi error scored 3 runs, and a Nick Van Stratten 2-out error scored a run before a 2-out homer finished the scoring at 16-9. RF Jeremy Barfield had 3 hits and CF Jermaine Mitchell had 2 hits for Midland. DH Adam Heether struck again vs NW Arkansas with his 6th homer and 3 RBI (18).

* The Naturals used a 5-run rally to overcome the RockHounds. Buddy Baumann gave up a solo homer in the 1st but the Naturals answered as Derrick Robinson singled, stole second, advanced on a Christian Colon bunt and scored on a wild pitch. The Naturals stranded 2 in the 2nd but Anthony Seratelli singled in a run in the 3rd to make it 2-1. Midland tied it in the 5th off Brandon Sisk. NWA surged ahead in the bottom of the 5th, tho, as Colon hit an RBI double, fresh off the DL Wil Myers hit an RBI double, and Tim Smith slammed a 3-run homer for his 5th of the season. Kelvin Herrera gave up a leadoff homer in the 7th but the Nats got the run back in their half on a Smith RBI double. Patrick Keating struck out 2 with 2 on in the 9th to finish it. CF Jermaine Mitchell had 3 hits, including his 9th homer, to improve to .371, and two others had 2 hits. NWA is 25-25. The series wraps up Monday with Will Smith toeing the rubber. Wil Myers was activated from the DL as Nick Francis was sent back to Wilmington.

* Elisaul Pimentel and Danny Rosenbaum dueled on the mound and Rosenbaum came out on top thanks to some runs when Pimentel was hitting the showers. Wilmington loaded the bases with 1 out in the 5th but Whit Merrifield hit into a double play to end the threat. Pimentel left a runner at third in the 8th and the stalemate went into the 9th. Kevin Chapman took over and loaded the bases with 3 singles with 0 out. A 1-out double by 3B Justin Bloxom cleared the bases and was a backbreaker. Rosenbaum retired the last 13 Rocks, including Merrifield's DP. He K'd 6 to improve to 3-3 with a 2.61 ERA. Five of the Nationals' 6 hits came in the 9th.

* A flurry of scoring in the 5th and 6th settled out with the Nationals taking home a sweep. The Rocks left the bases loaded in the 1st and Rey Navarro tripled but was later thrown out at the plate in the 3rd. Tim Melville held the P-Nats in check until allowing 3 runs in the 5th. The Rocks had an answer as Navarro singled home a run, John Whittleman hit an RBI single, Jose Bonilla hit a sac fly and Alex McClure singled in the go-ahead run to make it 4-3 Rocks at inning's end. Melville allowed 2 runs, however, before getting pulled in the 6th. The Rocks left 2 in scoring position in the 6th and that was their best chance from then on. 3B Justino Cuevas had 3 hits and his 7th RBI and C Brian Peacock had 2 hits. The Rocks are 29-26. A 4-game home set with the Kinston Indians (28-27) starts Monday. Tyler Sample will start the opener.

* The Cougars bullpen threw 7 strong innings and the offense showed some clutchitude (that's right, just made it up) as they came back to beat the TinCaps. Leondy Perez wasn't on his game as Fort Wayne scored a run in the 1st, then got 3 runs in the 3rd to make it 4-0. Santiago Garrido came in to strand 2 in the 4th after a lengthy rain delay and the comeback began in the 5th. Orlando Calixte singled home a run and Travis Jones followed with a 2-run double to cut it to 4-3. Garrido tiptoed through the 5th by stranding the bases full. The game entered the 9th still at 4-3, but Cheslor Cuthbert tied it with a 1-out solo homer for his 3rd of the season. The game went to the 11th when Jake Kuebler drew a 1-out walk and Ryan Stovall followed with a clutch RBI triple. Cuthbert added a sac fly and it was up to Mitch Hodge to hold it. He stranded 1 to pick up his 1st save. Five TinCaps had multi-hit games led by 3 hits from 3B Jake Blackwood, who hit 2 doubles (22) and drove in 3 (35) to improve to .298.

* The Cougars were stymied on Sunday with only 4 hits in the loss. Leonel Santiago was able to keep the TinCaps off the board early but finally allowed 3 runs in the 5th on 4 hits. The Caps added 4 in the 7th off Santiago and Chas Byrne. Ryan Stovall led off the 9th with a double and scored on an error to break up the shutout. SP Mark Hardy worked 6 scoreless IP to improve to 3-4 with a 2.54 ERA. Four Fort Wayne batters had multiple hits led by 3 hits from 2B Tyler Stubblefield, who hit 2 doubles. KC is 25-32. The Cougars have Monday off.
