* A 6-run 3rd gave Omaha all the runs it needed for Vin Mazzaro to pick up his 3rd win. Mazzaro allowed single runs in the 2nd and 3rd to make it 2-0 Zephyrs but Omaha broke out in the 3rd with a 2-run Clint Robinson single, RBI singles from Irving Falu and Manny Pina, and a 2-run Paulo Orlando triple. Kila Ka'aihue added an RBI single in the 4th. An error scored an Omaha run in the 5th and Robinson lifted a sac fly in the 6th. Heath Rollins took over for Mazzaro in the 8th and gave up a solo homer but he and Blaine Hardy closed the door from there. CF Bryan Petersen and RF Chris Aguila had 2 hits for the Zephyrs with Aguila knocking in 2 runs (33). Omaha is 30-23. Game 3 is Thursday night. Kevin Pucetas will start. C Lucas May was traded to the D-Backs on Wednesday as C Cody Clark was activated from the DL.

* NWA dug out of a 4-run hole but Frisco came out on top. Frisco scored 2 in the 2nd off Will Smith and the Naturals stranded 2 in their half. The RoughRiders scored 2 more in the 3rd but NW Arkansas had an answer. Anthony Seratelli hit an RBI single and Jamie Romak followed with a 3-run homer for his 6th of the season to tie the game. Smith gave up a leadoff homer in the 5th and that ended up being the backbreaker. The Naturals stranded 1 in the 9th. 2B Renny Osuna and LF Jonathan Greene had 2 hits for Frisco. Osuna hit his 3rd homer. NWA is 24-22. Game 2 is Thursday with Zach Miner getting the start.

* Jake Odorizzi was stellar once again but took a no-decision as the Rocks got a shutout win. Both teams stranded 2 in the 3rd. Neither Odorizzi nor Tribe pitching prospect Drew Pomeranz factored into the decision as the bullpens took over starting in the 6th. Wilmington wasted an Alex McClure triple in the 7th but Rey Navarro slammed a 2-run homer in the 8th for his 3rd of the season and that was it. Tyler Sample stranded the bases full in the 7th and Kevin Chapman stranded 1 in the 9th for his 7th save. Pomeranz struck out 4 over 5 IP to drop his ERA to 1.85. RF Bo Greenwell had 2 hits. Wilmington is 29-22. The series ends Thursday evening. Mike Mariot gets his first Wilmington start as Noel Arguelles will start Friday.

* The Captains got the best of Kane County again behind starter Michael Goodnight (awesome pitcher name). Yordano Ventura gave up a solo homer in the 1st and then gave up back-to-back homers in the 3rd. The Cougars stranded 2 in the 4th and Ventura saw 2 errors, including one by him, allow another run in the 5th. Goodnight was pulled in the 6th with 2 on and 0 out but KC could make nothing of it. Lake County scratched out a run in the 6th off Greg Billo and Julio Aparicio provided the Cougar offense with a 3-run homer in the 7th for his 2nd of the season. KC squandered a 2-on, 0-out situation in the 8th and didn't threaten in the 9th. Goodnight K'd 8 over 5 scoreless IP to improve to 4-3 with a 2.37 ERA. LF Anthony Gallas had 3 hits including his 6th HR with 2 RBI (20), and two others had 2 hits. KC is 23-30. The series finishes Thursday with Jason Adam starting.

Kane County OPS leaders
1. OF Brian Fletcher .867 -- .328/.376/.491, 16 RS, 9 2B, 2 3B, 2 HR, 19 RBI, 7 BB/24 K, 4/6 SB, 4 E in 30 G/116 ABs -- only logged 9 games in May as numbers dropped some
