Royals on the Farm 8/1 -- Gallagher signs

The Royals finally got one of their top 5 draft picks signed -- 2nd rd C Cameron Gallagher out of a Pennsylvania high school. He is slated for the AZL, then the fall instructional league per the team site. The deadline for signings is midnight ET Aug. 15.

Suppan stranded 2 in the 6th and Pucetas worked around a leadoff double in the 8th for the RedHawks' final push. Omaha is 60-49. The series ends Tuesday. Luis Mendoza will start.

* Springfield went on a 6-run surge to take Monday's series finale. Jake Odorizzi gave up a solo homer in the 3rd but Mario Lisson hit an RBI single in the 4th to tie the game. The Naturals wasted a Paulo Orlando triple in the 5th. Odorizzi had given up an RBI single before getting pulled with 2 out and 2 on in the 6th, and Brendan Lafferty was victimized by a Rey Navarro run-scoring error and another run before a 3-run homer made it 7-1 Cards. NWA stranded 2 in the 9th. The Naturals are 19-18 and still a game up on first. A 3-game set at the Tulsa Drillers (18-19, second place, AA Rockies) starts Tuesday.

* The Cougars had about as many errors (3) as hits (4) in the loss to the Bandits. The Bandits got to Yordano Ventura for a run in the 1st, then another in the 3rd. QC starter Anthony Ferrara handed a 3-hit shutout to the pen in the 8th, and Chase Boruff allowed a run in the 8th. The Cougars loaded the bases with 1 out in the 9th but couldn't capitalize. KC is 21-15. A 4-game set at the Beloit Snappers (17-19, A Twins) starts Tuesday with Jason Adam starting.

* The Royals got a shutdown outing out of Matt Murray and Malcom Culver backed him up well to combine on a 1-hitter. Murray Watts hit an RBI groundout in the 1st and Pulaski got what would be its only hit in the 1st. Murray went on to retire the next 17 after the hit. Meanwhile, the Royals got a Steven Brooks RBI single, a run-scoring wild pitch and Jin-Ho Shin RBI single, and a Watts RBI single to make it 5-0. Murray hit 2 batters in the 7th and was pulled with 2 on and 2 out for Culver, who ended up stranding the bases full. He stranded 1 in the 8th and then pitched a perfect 9th. Burlington is 16-25. The Royals have Tuesday off.
