Royals on the Farm 8/13

Late report tonight, got busy watching The Town and got distracted. Good movie, by the way. Exciting, not 100% predictable.

* The Storm Chasers slapped together four good rallies to even the set with the Bees. Yamaico Navarro struck out looking in the 1st and was ejected in the aftermath, but the Chasers regrouped to get a Clint Robinson RBI double and 3-run Irving Falu triple. Sean O'Sullivan allowed 2 runs in the 3rd but held them in check otherwise. Jarrod Dyson led off the 4th with his 1st homer of the season and Manny Pina added an RBI single. Lance Zawadzki then led off the 5th with his 8th homer and a Clint Robinson RBI single was followed by a Pina RBI double to make it 9-2 Chasers. Kevin Pucetas took over in the 7th and didn't last the inning as the Bees scored 3 runs. Jesse Chavez allowed a run in the 8th but Joaquin Arias hit an RBI triple in the 9th and Dyson finished the scoring with an RBI groundout. Omaha is 66-54. Vin Mazzaro pitches Sunday's game 3.

AA - NW Arkansas: Naturals 8, Midland 3

* The Naturals held Midland in check for most of the game as the won the opener. Paulo Orlando hit a 2-run homer in the 1st for his 2nd at AA this season but Mario Santiago balked in a run in the 1st. Jamie Romak hit an RBI groundout in the 3rd and Anthony Seratelli hit a 2-run double to make it 5-1. An error made it 6-1 Nats in the 4th but Midland got 2 in the 4th to trim down the lead. Derrick Robinson stole home in the 9th and Seratelli piled on another RBI double. Blaine Hardy went 3 strong to finish his 5th save. NWA is 25-23. Game 2 is Sunday. Will Smith will start.

* The Blue Rocks got a walkoff run on an error in the 9th. Yem Prades and Nick Van Stratten hit RBI singles in the 6th to break the ice in a scoreless game but Justin Marks couldn't hold it as Lynchburg scored 2 in the 7th. Van Stratten and John Whittleman led off the 9th with singles, and a fielding error on a ball hit by Ryan Stovall scored Van Stratten to end it. Wilmington is 19-29. The series ends Sunday with Allen Caldwell getting the start. SP Noel Arguelles has been shut down for the season to limit his IP.

* KC scored 2 late runs and then won it in 10. The Cougars had a runner gunned down at the plate to end the 1st and the Kernels scored 2 in the 5th off Antonio Cruz and Jason Mitchell. Brian Fletcher came through again, this time with a 2-run double in the 8th to tie it. A 2-run wild pitch in the 10th made it 4-2 Cougars. The Kernels got a run off Chase Boruff in the 10th before he ended it. KC is 28-20. Leondy Perez starts game 2 tomorrow.

Rookie - Idaho Falls: Ogden 9, Chukars 4 (Fri.)

* The 4th-7th innings were pivotal as Ogden surged to the win. The Chukars got a Luis Piterson double in the 1st but Kellen Moen gave up a leadoff homer in the bottom of the inning. A double play scored a run in the 3rd for the Chukars but Moen allowed the tying run in the 3rd. A 2-run homer in the 5th gave Ogden the lead and Jose Sanchez gave up 4 runs in the 6th as the Raptors took a 8-2 lead. Edul Escobar hit a solo homer in the 8th for his 4th of the season and Runey Davis hit his 5th homer of the season to leadoff the 9th, but other than that the well was dry. IF dropped to 4-9. They took tonight's series finale but I'll get into that tomorrow. As seen above, IF Nick DelGuidice has gotten the promotion to the Pioneer League.

* Danville was too much for Burlington on Saturday. The Braves scored first in the 1st but the Royals matched the run on a Mike Antonio RBI groundout. Then it was 8 straight Danville runs from the 2nd thru the 6th off Angel Baez and David Middendorf. The Royals had 2 hits from the 2nd thru the 7th and a Justin Trapp RBI single in the 8th was the only other run producer they'd get. Burlington is 19-33. The Royals will try to avoid the sweep Sunday. P Tyler Graham got moved up to Wilmington.

* The Royals made the long climb back from a 3-0 deficit to win in 13 Saturday. The Royals ran into a couple outs in the 1st and the Brewers got 2 triples off Cesar Ogando in a 3-run 1st. The Royals left the bases loaded in the 2nd but Rainier Bello whacked a 2-run homer in the 4th for his 1st of the season. Humberto Arteaga tripled and scored on an Adrian Morales single in the 7th. The Brewers found their offense again in the 8th but it was an Andrew Stueve wild pitch that scored the go-ahead run. The Royals wouldn't die tho as Arteaga singled in the tying run in the 9th. Terrance Gore came thru with the RBI single in the 13th and Christian Witt was lockdown in extras for his 3rd pro win. The Royals are 17-26.
