Perez took a 3-hit shutout into the 6th but gave up a 2-run homer that inning to cut the lead to 1. Kevin David had caught a runner stealing in the inning and that factor came up big. Cole White tiptoed around a leadoff triple in the 7th and the Cougars brought it home from there. KC is 29-20. Santiago Garrido will start Monday's series finale.

Carl 1 1/3 IP, 2 K -- W, 2-1, 1.44 ERA

* It took a 5-run 9th for the Chukars to win a Saturday slugfest over Ogden on Daniel Mateo's career night. Mateo hit an RBI double in the 1st but Willian Avinazar allowed the tying run in the bottom of the frame. Chris Elder hit a 2-run homer in the 2nd for his 3rd of the season and Mateo singled in a run to make it 4-1. Mateo clubbed a 2-run homer (his 2nd) in the 4th to put him a triple shy of the cycle and give IF a 6-1 lead. Avinazar allowed 2 runs in the 4th but Mateo completed the cycle in a big way with a bases-loaded triple in the 5th to make it 9-3. Ogden wasn't done, though, as the Raptors plated 1 in the 5th and Jonathan Dooley allowed 4 in the 6th to cut it to 9-8. Mateo hit an RBI single in the 7th to stretch the lead to 2 but Nathan Johnson gave up a 2-run homer that inning to tie the game. The Chukars loaded the bases to start the 9th and Henry Moreno took a bases-loaded walk before Runey Davis cranked a 2-out grand slam (his 6th) to put a nice end to a 5-K night personally. Edwin Carl struck out 2 in the 9th to pick up his 2nd win. IF is 5-9. They have today off. Mateo just turned 20 on Aug. 10.

Rookie - Burlington: Danville 10, B-Royals 2 (7)

CF Adams 2-4, K, RS -- .303
SS Antonio 1-3, BB, 2B (8), RBI (30), 2 E (20) -- .274
2B Js. Rodriguez 0-3, SF, RBI (11), SB (13) -- .265

Ridings 2 IP, 5 ER, 7 H, BB, 2 K, 2 HRA -- L, 2-4, 3.88 ERA
Ferguson 3 1/3 IP, UER, 2 H, BB, 4 K -- 5.86 ERA
Culver 2 1/3 IP, 4 ER, 5 H, 4 K, 2 HRA -- 7.50 ERA

* Mother Nature put an end to Sunday's game mercifully for the Royals as Danville got the sweep. Matt Ridings had a rough game as the Braves had 4 runs in before he recorded an out. Ridings gave up a leadoff homer in the 3rd and was pulled for Andrew Ferguson. The Royals left the bases loaded in the 3rd and Malcom Culver gave up 2 2-run homers in the 6th to make it 9-0. Danville added a run in the 7th and the Royal offense finally showed up that inning as Jose Rodriguez hit a sac fly and Mike Antonio doubled in a run to cut it to 10-2. Culver gave up a 2-out double in the 8th and then the rain took it from there. Burlington is 19-34. The Royals have Monday off.

Rookie - AZL: Dodgers 3, Royals 2

2B Garcia 3-4, RS, SB (8) -- .310
LF Toney 2-5, 2B (8), RBI (22) -- .325
CF Allen 2-3, S, 2B (5), RBI (11) -- .248
DH Gallagher 0-4, K -- .167

E. Diaz 6 IP, 2 H, BB, 5 K, WP, pickoff -- 5.65 ERA
Edelen 3 IP, 3 ER, 3 H, BB, 3 K, HRA -- BS, 2, L, 1-1, 7.93 ERA

* The 7th inning was a killer for the Royals on Sunday. The loss was unfortunate for starter Eric Diaz, who went 6 strong innings against the Dodgers. Jerrell Allen singled in the first run of the game in the 4th and Diaz handed the tenuous 1-0 lead to Brian Edelen in the 7th. A walk and double tied the game, then a 2-run homer gave the Dodgers a 3-1 lead. D'Andre Toney stroked an RBI double to cut it to 3-2 in the bottom of the inning, but he got stranded at third. The tying run wouldn't be produced. The Royals are 17-27.
