Royals on the Farm 8/16

Final tally: 34 of the 50 2011 Royals draftees signed. Nine of the top 10, 22 of the top 25.

AAA - Omaha: Omaha takes on Tacoma in game 1 tonight

* This is gonna be a late one (for me, anyway, not necessarily in general). Report tomorrow.

AA - NW Arkansas: off day

* A 3-game home set with the Frisco RoughRiders (27-23, AA Rangers) starts Wednesday. Chris Dwyer will start.

* A late Rocks comeback went for nothing as the Keys got a walkoff hit in the 9th. Elisaul Pimentel served up a solo homer in the 2nd and Wilmington stranded 2 in the 4th. The Keys added 2 in the 5th to make it 3-0 but the Rocks offense awoke in the 6th. Carlo Testa went deep in the 6th for his 4th of the season and the Rocks tied it in the 7th on RBI doubles by Yem Prades and Mike Liberto. Ryan Dennick gave up a 2-out single in the 9th and DH Justin Dalles hit a walkoff double. Wilmington is 19-31. Game 3 is Wednesday. Tyler Sample will start. P Tyler Graham was sent down to Kane County without making an appearance for the Rocks.

A - Kane County: off day

* The Cougars start a 3-game home set with the Beloit Snappers (23-26, A Twins) on Wednesday. Greg Billo will start game 1.

* The Chukars broke out for 10 runs in the 5th and 6th to whip the Mustangs. Henry Moreno singled in a run in the 1st and Aaron Brooks allowed a run in the 2nd before getting the first of 4 Chukar double plays. Tyler Smith hit an RBI single in the 2nd to make it 2-1. Idaho Falls broke out for 4 runs with 2 out in the 5th on a run-scoring error, Mark Threlkeld RBI double, Nick DelGuidice hit an RBI single and Smith took a bases-loaded walk before the Chukars left the bases full. Brooks gave up a leadoff homer in the 6th but the Chukars answered with 6 runs in the inning on a run-scoring error, a 3-run DelGuidice double, Smith RBI single and run-scoring wild pitch. Threlkeld hit an RBI double in the 7th to finish it. IF is 6-9. Game 2 is tonight. Report tomorrow. Brooks was named Pioneer League Pitcher of the Week Monday after a shutout start versus Casper.

* Two-thirds of the Burlington lineup had 2 hits each as the Royals ran wild in the 2nd to get the win. Nick Graffeo allowed a run in the 1st but 12 Royals would come to the plate in the 2nd. Jin-Ho Shin hit an RBI single, Cameron Conner did the same, Lane Adams hit a 2-run double, Justin Trapp hit a 2-run double, and Mike Antonio and Jorge Bonifacio hit RBI doubles to make it 8-1. Graffeo gave up a 2-run homer in the 4th and got pulled for Abel Gonzalez. The Jays got another run in the 7th but Trapp singled in a run in the 8th. Rudy Brown allowed a run in the 8th but finished it from there. The B-Royals are 20-34. Game 2 is Wednesday.
