* The Storm Chasers weathered the 5th and took the lead for keeps in the 6th. Luis Mendoza and Anthony Vasquez were dueling as it was scoreless through 4, but Cody Clark doubled in a run in the 5th and Kurt Mertins singled in a run to make it 2-0. Mendoza found the lead slippery as two RBI singles tied it in the bottom of the inning. Omaha loaded the bases with 0 out in the 6th and Clint Robinson had an RBI forceout to break the game in Omaha's favor. Jesse Chavez came in to strand 2 in the 8th and then stranded 1 more in the 9th to pick up his 15th save. Omaha is 68-55. I'll recap tonight's game 2 tomorrow.

* The Naturals broke out the bats to drub the RoughRiders Wednesday. NWA got it started with 4 in the 3rd on a run-scoring error, Jamie Romak RBI single, and 2-run single by Matt Treanor. The Naturals added 4 in the 5th on an Anthony Seratelli RBI single, bases-loaded walk by Wil Myers, Paulo Orlando RBI forceout and Rey Navarro RBI groundout. Chris Dwyer had another strong start but allowed single runs in the 6th and 7th. NWA responded to the tallies with 2 in the 6th on RBI singles by Seratelli and Myers and 3 in the 7th on a Romak RBI double and 2-run Seratelli double. Myers doubled and scored on a Navarro groundout in the 8th to polish it off. NWA is 26-24. Game 2 is Thursday. Jake Odorizzi will start.

* Frederick swept the Rocks thanks in part to 5 Wilmington errors on Wednesday. Tyler Sample gave up a solo homer in the 2nd and the Keys added a run in the 5th. The Rocks put two in scoring position with 1 out in the 6th and Ryan Stovall hit a sac fly in the 6th but the rally stopped there. The Keys added runs in the 7th and 8th and the last 11 Rocks went down starting with Stovall's sac fly. Wilmington is 19-32. A 4-game home set with the Salem Red Sox (24-28) starts Thursday. Justin Marks starts game 1.

* A 6-run 9th put it out of reach for the Snappers. The Cougars stranded some runners early but Greg Billo held the line on the mound. Geulin Beltre tried to score on a Cheslor Cuthbert 2-out single in the 5th but was thrown out at the plate to end the inning. Billo lost the game on one pitch as a 2-out 3-run homer in the 6th by DH Jairo Perez gave the Snappers the lead. Jovan Pickett singled in a run in the bottom of the 6th but the Cougars left the bases loaded. Beloit tacked on a run in the 7th and Mike Giovenco and Cole White got battered for 6 runs in the 9th. KC is 30-21. Yordano Ventura starts game 2 Thursday.

* Great performances by Brian Peacock and Edwin Carl highlighted Tuesday's Chukars win. Peacock gave up a leadoff homer in the 1st and otherwise allowed only 2 hits in the 4th. Ryan Jenkins hit an RBI double in the 2nd, scored on a wild pitch and an error scored a run to make it 3-1 IF. Chris Elder slapped his 4th homer in the 3rd and Henry Moreno went deep for his 7th homer in the 5th to make it 5-1. Carl gave up a leadoff single in the 8th then struck out the next 6 batters. IF is 7-9. Game 3 is tonight. Recap tomorrow. C Ryan Jenkins got moved up to Omaha after the game. P Gary Cuevas has also been moved up to Wilmington. Carl to Kane County is what I say! Hey, Peacock too for the stretch run!

* The Royals had more errors (4), than runs (3) on Wednesday. Lane Adams started the game with a bang as his solo homer (his 4th) made it 1-0 Royals. Eric Cantrell pitched 5 scoreless and things started going wrong when he handed it off to Andrea Pizziconi in the 6th. The Jays took the lead with 2 in the 6th, then scored 5 in the 7th off Pizziconi and David Middendorf to make it 7-1. Jorge Bonifacio hit a sac fly in the 9th and Jin-Ho Shin hit an RBI single before the Royals' luck petered out. Burlington is 20-35. The series ends Thursday.

* The Diamondbacks amassed 10 runs before the Royals got on the board and that was it. The D-Backs started it with 2 in the 1st off Max Morales, then added 4 in the 3rd. Andrew Durden allowed 4 more runs in the 4th to make it 10-0 D-Backs. Carlos Garcia hit an RBI forceout, Alex Llanos singled in a run and Humberto Arteaga doubled in the Royals' final run. The Royals stranded 2 in the 9th. They dropped to 17-29.
