* A pair of 4-run rallies doomed Mike Montgomery and the Chasers on Thursday. Omaha stranded 2 in the 2nd but Clint Robinson singled in a run in the 4th to give Omaha the lead. Montgomery got nicked for 4 runs in the 4th and Robinson led off the 6th with his 22nd homer. Jesse Chavez gave up 4 runs in the 7th and Omaha couldn't make any headway late. The Chasers are 74-58. Game 3 is Friday. Luis Mendoza will start.

* With little margin for error on a down offensive night, Will Smith's 1 earned run was enough to get him his 9th loss. It all came down to 1 pitch as Smith teed up a solo homer to LF Jose Garcia in the 5th. NWA had baserunners in 8 of the 9 innings but couldn't break the ice. Cards SP Michael Blazek K'd 10 over 7 IP to improve to 11-6. NWA is 33-26. The series ends Friday. Jeremy Jeffress will start.

* The Rocks put it away in the 8th. Nick Van Stratten gunned down a runner at the plate to end the Nationals 2nd and Whit Merrifield got Wilmington on the board with an RBI double in the 3rd. Tim Melville walked in 2 runs in the 3rd but the Rocks got a Tim Ferguson RBI double and run-scoring error to regain the lead in the 4th. Melville allowed the tying run in the 4th. Julio Rodriguez doubled in a run in the 6th and Nick Van Stratten hit an RBI double in the 7th to make it 5-3 Rocks. The Rocks busted out in the 8th as Carlo Testa worked a bases-loaded walk, Van Stratten hit a 2-run single, Joey Lewis hit a 2-run double and Yem Prades singled in a run to make it 11-3. Potomac scored 2 in the 8th off Kendal Volz but the Rocks finished it from there. Wilmington is 24-34. A 3-day, 4-game set at the Salem Red Sox (26-34) starts with the teams' third straight doubleheader Friday after two last weekend. Mike Mariot and Justin Marks are set to start.

* Wisconsin took command in the middle innings to drop the Cougars. KC stranded 2 twice early on. Leondy Perez allowed a run in the 4th but Geulin Beltre singled in a run to tie it in the 5th. Perez allowed 2 runs in the 5th and Mike Giovenco allowed 2 runs in the 6th as the T-Rats surged ahead. KC stranded 2 in the 6th and 7th and got a Brian Fletcher RBI single in the 9th but could get no closer. Kane County is 33-26. Santiago Garrido is set to pitch Friday's series finale.

* High hopes for the Chukars in the 1st turned into a 4-run loss on Wednesday. Idaho Falls rallied with 2 outs in the 1st as Dan Mateo singled in a run, Edul Escobar took a bases-loaded walk, Nick DelGuidice and Darian Sandford singled in runs and Tyler Chism took a bases-loaded walk to make it 5-0. Eric Diaz allowed a solo homer in the Billings 1st, then a 2-run homer in the 2nd. Mark Threlkeld went deep for his 3rd homer of the season in the 3rd but Diaz's game continued to fall apart. The Mustangs scored 6 in the 3rd to emerge with a 9-6 lead. Willian Avinazar allowed 2 runs in the 4th but Chris Elder popped a 2-run homer in the 6th for his 6th of the season to cut it to 11-8. Avinazar allowed a run in the 7th and Richard Espy hit an RBI groundout in the 8th. Jon Dooley gave up a solo homer in the 8th and that was it. IF is 10-14. A 4-game set at the Great Falls Voyagers (15-9, Rookie ChiSox) starts tonight.

* Burlington saw Matt Ridings back high in the saddle as they took down the 'Stros. Ridings was perfect thru 5 and the Royals got 2 in the 4th on a Murray Watts 2-run double. Jose Rodriguez added a sac fly in the 5th to make it 3-0. Ridings allowed 2 hits in the 6th and that would be his last inning of work. Jin-Ho Shin hit his 3rd homer of the season to lead off the 6th and Andrew Ferguson allowed a run in the 7th before stranding the bases full. Rodriguez doubled in a run in the 7th and the Astros scored a run in the 8th. The Royals finished it with 2 in the 8th on an Anthony Howard RBI single and Lane Adams sac fly. Burlington is 22-41. Game 2 is Friday.

* The Rangers knocked Sergio Rosario around to show why they've been among the best of the AZL this season. The Rangers scored a run in the 1st but Jerrell Allen hit an RBI forceout in the 2nd to tie it. Rosario allowed a run on 2 hits in the 3rd, then gave up a 3-run homer in the 4th. Nick Cuckovich hit an RBI single in the 5th but Rosario gave up a 2-run homer in the bottom of the inning. The Royals stranded 2 in the 9th. They are 20-33. They have Friday off.
