* The Bees lit up Jeff Suppan to bring home the series opener Friday. Salt Lake scored 3 in the 2nd. Omaha stranded the bases full in the 3rd and Manny Pina took a bases-loaded walk before an Irving Falu sac fly trimmed it to 3-2 in the 4th. That was as close as Omaha would get as Suppan allowed single runs in the 4th and 5th and Robinson Tejeda allowed a run in the 7th. Omaha is 65-54. Game 2 is Saturday. Luis Mendoza will start.

* The Naturals got a good start from Jake Odorizzi and shut down the RoughRiders. Nick Francis hit a sac fly in the 2nd and an error scored another run in the 5th to make it 2-0 Nats. Odorizzi stranded 2 in the 5th but that was NWA's closest call. The Naturals are 24-23. A 3-game set at the Midland RockHounds (27-20, AA A's) starts Saturday. Will Smith starts.

* The Rocks started strong and held on to win. Lynchburg got a run off Tyler Sample in the 1st but the Rocks scored 4 in their half as Whit Merrifield led off with a triple and scored on a Nick Van Stratten double, John Whittleman hit a sac fly, Ryan Stovall hit an RBI groundout and Yem Prades cranked a 2-run homer for his 4th of the season. A Van Stratten single scored 2 in the 4th thanks also to a Hillcat error, and Tim Ferguson added a sac fly in the 5th to make it 7-1 Rocks. Sample appeared to tire some in the 6th as the Hillcats scored 2. Van Stratten singled in another run in the 6th and Jose Bonilla hit a solo homer in the 7th for his 3rd of the season. The Rocks are 18-29. Game 3 is Saturday. Justin Marks will start.

* The 6th inning was the key in Friday's Peoria win. The Chiefs had scored a run in the 3rd off Jason Adam but Geulin Beltre had tied it with an RBI single in the 5th. Two errors in the 6th helped do in the Cougars as Adam was pulled with a run in and 2 on. Cole White allowed 3 more runs to make it 5-1 Chiefs. Brian Fletcher led off the 6th with his 11th homer but the Chiefs got a solo homer in the 8th. KC left the bases loaded in the 8th and Peoria got an insurance solo homer in the 9th. KC is 27-20 and 3 games up on the second half division lead. A 3-game road set at the Cedar Rapids Kernels (20-27, A Angels) starts Saturday with Antonio Cruz starting.

* Casper used a big 2nd to fuel the win Thursday. The Ghosts scored 6 that inning off Brennon Martin, mostly on singles, tho a 2-run homer factored in. Henry Moreno hit an RBI double and Mark Threlkeld ripped a 3-run homer in the 4th for his 2nd career shot. Casper got a run back in the 5th and a Justin Fradejas homer in the 9th (his 2nd) was all the Chukars got otherwise. IF was 4-8 going into tonight. Ogden won tonight's first of 2. I'll recap it tomorrow.

* It was all Braves from the 4th on as they raced past Burlington Friday. Anthony Howard put the Royals on top with a leadoff homer in the 3rd (his 2nd), with Justin Trapp adding an RBI double and Mike Antonio hit an RBI groundout to make it 3-0 Royals. Matt Murray gave up a 2-run triple in the 4th and, after the Royals stranded the bases full in the 4th, Rudy Brown gave up a 2-run homer in the 6th to make it 4-3 Braves. The Royals left 2 in scoring position in the 7th and Andrea Pizziconi allowed 4 runs in the 9th as Danville put it away. The first 2 Royals reached in the 9th but the rally was fruitless. Burlington is 19-32. Game 2 is Saturday. Angel Baez will start.

* Cubs SS Gioskar Amaya drove in 6 runs to almost single-handedly take down the Royals Friday. He hit an RBI double in the 1st but the Royals answered with 3 runs in their half on a Cameron Gallagher RBI single and 2 run-scoring wild pitches. The Cubs scored on an error in the 2nd, then tied it in the 3rd. Jerrell Allen doubled and scored on a Terrance Gore forceout in the 4th but Amaya hit a 2-run double in the 5th to make it 5-4. The Cubs got to Max Morales for 4 runs in the 7th to stretch it to 9-4. D'Andre Toney hit a triple and scored on a Humberto Arteaga groundout, and the Royals' highlight was Gallagher leading off the bottom of the 8th with his 1st professional homer. The Cubs polished it off with a run in the 9th. The Royals are 16-26.
